CASE STUDY: COUNTY HALFWAY HOUSE FOR BATTERED WOMEN

As a human services professional, you are obligated to respect the right of self-determination, and the principles of confidentiality and maintaining boundaries.

Consider the following case study: a client in the county halfway house for battered women had been seriously injured on three occasions as a result of confrontations with her husband. She was placed in the halfway house by court order and the husband was required to remain separated from his wife.

The supervisor was informed that the service provider working with the client had been asked repeatedly by the client to allow her husband to visit with her, since she “just knew she can make up and they will be okay.” The service provider was unsure and turned to a counselor for advice about what to do. The counselor said she felt compassion for the client and believed that she was ready to begin “working things out with her husband.”

Still unsure, the service provider decided to turn to the supervisor for guidance. The halfway house has an ethics code that emphasizes self-determination and confidentiality for the protection of the clients. The county laws strictly follow the court decisions.

Suppose you are the supervisor responsible for directing both the service provider and the counselor. Taking into account the halfway house ethics code, National Organization of Human Services’ “Ethical Standards for Human Services Professionals,” and the county law, how will you decide? What is your decision in providing direction and guidance to the service provider? What is your responsibility toward the counselor?

It may be helpful to refer to the Organizational Ethics Concerning Mental Health media presentation in the Resources as you complete this discussion.

Your initial post must:

CASE STUDY: NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FOR AN IMPOVERISHED NEIGHBORHOOD

Suppose you are the director of the food distribution program in a nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization serves a rural Hmong community that is largely organized around the church. The church is not well funded, but the nonprofit organization receives funds from the state, allowing it ample staffing support.

Members of the community rely on the church pastor and believe that the church should be providing food support to members of the community who are unable to feed themselves, since there are very few jobs in the community that pay a living wage. The community is thankful for the food distribution program you direct, but they want the church to control distribution, especially of the foods they prefer. Your program relies on an outside charitable warehouse for foods that are generally available to commercial outlets, but mainly canned foods and packaged foods. The community wants fresh food and the pastor agrees they should have fresh foods, including greens and fresh meat.

You are responsible to the state for providing food to this impoverished rural community; however, the community does not want to rely on your organization, but the church instead. You must make an ethical and programmatic decision that satisfies both the community and its church, as well as the state authorities providing the money.

Explain your decision, based on ethical principles. Assess the ethical obligations you have to the state versus those obligations to the community.

Case study. Case study.

A 30-year-old woman comes to your office because of a persistent cough that has been bothering her for the past 3 months. Her cough is dry and is more frequent during the evenings. She also notes frequent nasal congestion, especially when she is exposed to dust and cold weather. She reports no hemoptysis, weight loss, wheezing, fever, or changes in her appetite.
What additional questions would you ask to learn more about her cough? What would be included in your HPI and your subjective questioning?
How would you classify her cough based on the duration to help with the diagnosis?
What diagnostic tests do you want to include to help you with your diagnosis?
Create a differential diagnosis flow sheet for this patient and include the diagnostics as well as the pharmacological management and rationale related to the differentials. Support your discussion with 3 evidence-based references that is no older than 5 years.

Refute statements bonus

Case study Nursing Assignment Help Recently in a Modesto Bee article (Links to an external site.), a person was quoted as saying, “They cannot prove there are no long-term effects,” and “We have not had enough time for them to show the vaccines are safe” in regards to the approved COVID19 vaccines. Now that you know more about the immune system, know more about vaccines in general, you can refute this statement. First, it would be a good idea to hear from a vaccine and infectious disease expert, Dr. Paul Offit. Check out this TWiV episode (Links to an external site.) from February where Dr. Offit was a guest to talk about vaccine development. You only need to watch/listen to the first hour. (I will also embed the episode below.)
After watching, type up a one paragraph refutation of EACH statement (two total paragraphs) and submit here. This is worth a whopping 5 points!

After graduating from nursing school and passing your boards, you accepted a position as an RN

After graduating from nursing school and passing your boards, you accepted a position as an RN in the emergency center at Rasmussen General Hospital (RGH). In the weeks ahead, your emergency center plans to implement a new initiative where clients diagnosed with low-risk deep vein thrombosis (DVT) will be sent home on 3 months of oral anticoagulation therapy with rivaroxaban.
Historically, clients diagnosed with DVTs in the emergency center were admitted to the hospital’s observation unit. However, when surveyed about their experiences, many clients reported that this was costly, time-consuming, and inconvenient. Under RGH’s new program, emergency center nurses will be responsible for educating clients about their new medication and administering the first dose to the client before discharge.
As part of this new initiative, all emergency center nurses at RGH must be trained to properly educate these clients on all aspects of their new medication regimen. Because you have demonstrated a keen interest in pharmacology, your manager has asked you to develop the educational tools that will be used to train the nurses at RGH.
It’s worth noting that the standard dosing for all low-risk DVTs is as follows:
15 mg BID, 12 hours apart, for 21 days
After 21 days, use 20 mg once per day
After 90 days, the client will follow up in the thrombosis clinic to evaluate if they meet criteria for discontinuing the medication

Assignment Instructions
Your manager explained that all of the emergency center nurses at RGH will be educated in small groups through a short, in-service training session. You have been asked to develop a professional-looking PowerPoint presentation that the trainers will use to guide the in-service sessions. Your PowerPoint will need to:
Be professional-looking (show current evidence-based practices), have a title slide, and 10-15 content slides.
Use the Speaker Notes feature in PowerPoint to reduce the amount of text that appears on the content slides.
The Speaker Notes for each slide will contain the text that will guide what the trainer will say while presenting the slides during the in-service.
The speaker notes should be written in full sentence format. The speak notes should show comprehension of the material, this means the speaker notes should add additional information to the notes on the slide; they should explain definitions, diagrams, and provide examples. The speaker notes should be easy to understand and follow. The speaker notes should add to the presentation and not be directly copied from the content slides. (Speaker notes should follow APA guidelines)
The Speak Notes need to be copied onto a word document and submitted through grammeraly.
The content slides themselves should be clear and easy to understand; they serve as an outline so the audience can follow along with what is being presented (Slide should follow APA guidelines)
Both slides and speaker notes should be written using proper spelling/grammar and at a level that would be appropriate for the audience.
Remember the purpose of the training is to help nurses learn about this medication so they can educate their clients about the use of a medication. With that in mind, it may be helpful to provide examples of how to explain the information to a client in an easy-to-understand way without complicated, technical terms.
Include APA formatted in-text citations on each slide as well as in the speaker notes. This assignment requires 3 scholarly references and present the sources in APA format on a References slide.
Contain content addressing the items below.
Pharmacotheraputics
State the drug name and its therapeutic category
Pharmacodynamics (how does this drug work? How does it affect the body?)
Pharmacokinetics (how is this drug absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted; why is this information important to the nurse?).
Discuss dosage, scheduling, route, and length of therapy.
Describe what clients can expect regarding their therapeutic response and when it should develop
Introduce non-drug measures that clients can do to enhance their therapeutic response (e.g., specific diet to follow, exercise requirements, substances to avoid, special precautions to take, etc.)
Side Effects, Adverse Effects, and Interactions
Explain the symptoms of common side effects, and what clients can do to minimize any discomfort. Ask yourself what can nurses do to prevent and/or treat some of the common side effects listed?
Explain the symptoms of any major adverse effects. What should clients do if they experience them? How can clients prevent these major adverse effects? How can nurses assess for these adverse effects? How can nurses prevent and/or treat these adverse effects?
List the major adverse drug-drug interactions and drug-food interactions that clients need to be made aware of
Follow-up Care
Provide information regarding when clients should call their doctor for advice (e.g., questions, non-urgent symptoms, unpleasant side effects, etc.)
Emphasize any symptoms for which clients should seek immediate care (e.g., when to go to the emergency center or call 911)
The following items need to be turned in to complete this assignment:
The power-point presentation with speaker notes
The word document with the speaker notes
The Grammeraly Report with both plagiarism and grammar report
Each student needs to complete their peer evaluation
Bottom of Form Grammarly Instructions.pdf
Top of Form Note: When developing a professional-looking presentation, it’s important to be mindful of how you layout your content. The slides should present key points, arranged in a logical manner, without extraneous information contributing to a cluttered look. Using the Speaker Notes feature in PowerPoint is a great way to include relevant details without overloading the slides.
