Paper CE may be started on 9/11/17 and must be completed by 9/17/17

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze a current events article (i.e., only one) that you may choose from any online current periodical, trade magazine, or other electronic publication about a global digital ethical issue. While this assignment will increase your knowledge in that subject area from a corporation viewpoint, and enable you to analyze digital ethical issues of a current GLOBAL situation or event, it will also help enhance your research and writing skills, as well as your critical-thinking abilities.

You start by selecting a current IT related online article (2015 sources or later) about a global ethical issue. [Note: This assignment is not a general essay about the topic selected, it must be about the current event article selected] While articles from journals may be of interest, they are ultimately too long and involved for this assignment – it is best to find an article, reasonable in length from the World Wide Web. Provide the source citation that is in compliance with the American Psychological Association (APA) formatting rules (see the Course Infrastructure), as well as the persistent URL that is clickable (one that anyone can click on to re-access the original article).

The following elements must be addressed:

  • Summarize the whole article by all of its key or salient points. You may use bullets concerning the salient points of the article. Remember, that the “thrust of the article” is not enough – your salient points should cover the entire article!
  • Analyze the multi-national and global aspects of the article – what is the impact or what is the importance or the effect of the information in the article?
  • Determine three critically important questions you would like to address to the author regarding the article – you are not expected to answer the questions!

When complete, you will post your assignment into the LEO Assignments module under the slot Paper CE-Current Events Analysis. The instructor will provide your grade and feedback via the LEO Grades tool and the appropriate Student Score Sheet. This assignment does not have a specific length, but you want to make sure that you have adequately covered the required three points listed above.

Use APA formatted reference citations (see the Course Infrastructure) for all sources utilized. Remember, as a minimum, the source citation for your article must be included along with a clickable URL. In addition to critical thinking and analysis skills, your paper should reflect appropriate writing mechanics, good organization, and proper business-writing style. Remember to include a cover sheet as specified in the General Writing Requirements.

GEOG 1000, Sea-level Rise Assignment Science Assignment Help

The aim for this assignment is to become familiar with the interaction of increasing sea levels on human infrastructure and the associated costs to society. Living in landlocked states, we do not directly experience the challenges posed by the interaction of the oceans with wealth and population centered on our coastlines. However, these are important problems to be aware of because natural disasters in coastal locations cost billions of tax dollars. Further, in some instances, landlocked areas are asked to receive refugees from devastated areas.

The study region for this assignment will be Norfolk, VA, which occurs in the Hampton Roads (or Tidewater) metropolitan area and incorporates the cities of Virginia Beach, Hampton, and Newport News. There are over 1.7 million people currently living in this region. Norfolk is sandwiched between the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay to the north and the Elizabeth River to the west, making it one of the largest ice-free, natural harbors found anywhere on earth. The rich maritime history of Norfolk includes a major shipbuilding industry, a port of entry for international freighters, and the most significant ship-to-rail transfer hub in the USA operated by Norfolk-Southern Railroad. Additionally, the US Navy’s Atlantic fleet is stationed in Norfolk, which is the largest naval base on earth.

First, let’s read a short news article about Norfolk that was published by the Washington Post in 2014 entitled: “In Norfolk, evidence of climate change is in the streets at high tide”. A pdf of the article is attached. Please read carefully and then answer the following questions.

  1. In addition to sea level rise, Norfolk is experiencing significant increases in flooding for a second reason. What is it?
  1. How much have normal tides risen in Norfolk during the last century?
  1. What types of storms exacerbate damages associated with rising seas?
  1. What are some of the options that have been proposed for dealing with inevitable flooding in Norfolk?
  1. Describe some of the expenses that have been incurred from rising sea levels in this area. What Federal agency is helping to defray the costs of improving homes and structures to local residents?

Next, read the 2015 article from The American Prospect entitled “Virginia Sinking, Atlantic Surging’. A pdf of the article attached. Please read carefully and then answer the following questions.

  1. What surprising groups of people are coming together to address the sea level rise?
  1. According to the Pentagon report released in October 2014, climate change is a threat to national security. What does that mean?
  1. How is the Navy planning to respond in the next few years to climate change? What about in the next 50 years?
  1. How much can flood insurance cost homeowners? Does it sound like a good idea to carry flood insurance living in this area?
  1. How are smart phone apps involving citizens in helping to assess sea level rise and flooding?
  1. Despite a sense of urgency among people interviewed for this article, why do you think political leadership is lagging – when the data are clear that flooding will only increase in Norfolk in the future?
  1. Through this assignment, you’re familiar with the causes and outcomes of increasing sea levels. Of the narratives presented here – what risk do you think is most compelling? For example, threats to national security, considerable amounts of federal funding paid out to improve homes and infrastructure, outrageously expensive flood insurance policies, loss of historical areas and meeting places? Tell me what strikes you as vitally important.

Discussion on Carr’s Chapter 10 Humanities Assignment Help

Nicholas Carr’s The Shallows

Discussion on Carr’s Chapter 10

1) Ok, so ELIZA was a simple program but it still seemed to be able to seduce users into believing some personal conversation was happening. Our smart phones, tablets, laptops and video games are so much more complex programs. How this danger play out? How might your understanding of the effects ELIZA had on users be useful in your own or your colleagues’ research papers?

2) On page 207, Carr characterizes what Weizenbaum came to believe is what makes us human. What seems to make us human (as opposed to machines)? And how do our digital technologies push to be more like machines and less than human?

3) Tools both extend our power and limit our power. A hammer gives the ability to pound nails but limits our hands to only pounding nails. But a hammer is a very simple tool. A smart phone, a computer, is an incredibly complex tool, so how might this kind of tool – which gives us incredible power – impose incredible and widely enforced limitations? Offer any theories you might have about our digital tech limits us. And how might it apply to your investigations?

4) Carr claims that “the price we pay to assume technology’s power is alienation” (211). What does Carr mean here by alienation? How is your digital technology alienating you? Or how does it alienate the people you know? Anything useful here for your paper?

Respond to the comments below in your own words:

1)Talking to ELIZA is kind of like talking to Siri, or playing some video games. These games are so realistic now a days where you could start to think a character is a real life person. Same could be said with Siri you talk to her on the Iphone and tell her what to do and she will respond and do that task. You can change it to a male voice or even an accent I believe, which makes it even more realistic. Understanding the effects of ELIZA can be useful to see how and why people become attached to human like voices.

2)What differentiates us from machines and any technology, is our ability to make decisions, thinking before acting, on our own and with wisdom. The machine does not act by itself, nor makes decisions, it does not go anywhere by its own means. It totally depends on how we use it and where we take it. Unfortunately our excessive use of them, has created us a strong link and in some cases sickly, that we depend on technology, we are not going anywhere with at least the smart phone, places us with satellite GPS, tells us where go, before people used the maps, they thought and analyzed where they should go, now the machine tells us the route. We like the easy way, and we do not use our brains to know where to go and how to get there. Less human, more dependent.

3)These technology device also require the use of our hands and fingers. These complex tools do what we search or tell them what to do. We can google certain things and the computer will bring up related articles to it. Technology limits us by not thinking any through and memorization is no longer a thing. We now just pull out our iphones or computers if we do not know something. Instead of reading or doing work one our own we rely on technology to give us the easy way out.

4)Carr used the term alienation because the more time and energy we spent on our computers, cell phones, etc the less time we exercise our minds. He knows that without the having to memorize, show emotion, or have a perception of reality we are essentially removing ourselves from a world of humanness to a virtual world. It happens through social media sites. People communicate more on facebook than in real life. They get so wrapped up on the site that they forget that there is something to be said for human contact and emotion. When writing my paper I definitely could use this as a factor in an argument about self esteem issues and social media. There is a huge connection for young girls.

As classical guitarists, we often need to look beyond our own borders to find inspiration. Our own repertoire is quite limited, especially compared to the wealth of music that violinists and pianists have available. It is common practice for classical guitarists to make their own transcriptions and arrangements of compositions that were written for other instruments.

This is my transcription of Johann Sebastian Bach’s (1685 – 1750) Allemande from French Suite in E-flat major (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. The Allemande is a German dance in 4 beats, characterized by a moderate pace. To me, it feels like something that elegantly unfolds, winding gently like the broad roads in the countryside.

Link: Harpsichord performance (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Link: Piano performance (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Assignment:

1.) Reflect on the guitar performance.

2.) This Allemande was originally written for the harpsichord, the keyboard instrument from the Baroque era, the predecessor of the piano. Compare my guitar version to the two keyboard versions.

3.) We call them transcriptions or arrangements. Some use the word “adapted.” Bands will do “covers” of popular songs. These are all very similar in concept. Share a piece of music that you enjoy that has undergone some kind of arrangement.

  • Link the original piece (a YouTube link, for example.)
  • Link the arranged version.
  • Compare the two versions. Share what you enjoy about each version and what the arrangement brings to the table. Maybe something lost and something else is gained.

Assignment:

1.) Start with the Ted Talk. Consider the the parts where he introduces his band (1:40) and where he talks about his percussion techniques (7:30). When we think of the guitar, we usually think of the sounds produced by the strings. But if you consider all of the different kinds of woods that are used to make the guitar, and if you allow more than finger picking and a using picks, you can get quite creative with many other possible “guitar” sounds.Reflect on his technique and on the excerpt that he performs.

2.) Tommy’s + wife’s letter (15:30). Share a few elements of his letter and the Talk overall that stood out to you.

3.) Listen to any song from the list and share your thoughts.

4.) Listen to another song and share your thoughts.

5.) Today, many guitarists combine varieties of techniques and sounds to put on a great show. Do you have a guitarist you enjoy listening to who brings these extended techniques to the guitar? Compare Tommy Emmanuel and your guitarist. If you don’t know anyone, Andy McKee (here performing “Africa” (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.) has millions of views. Add a constructor to the Date class (using the versions of Chrono.cpp and Chrono.h found on our Piazza
page at Resources->Resources->Sample_Programs) that initializes the Date with format “month day
year” where month is type Month, day is type int, and year is type int. Be sure to check (in the
constructor) that a valid Date was entered. Create a program (hw3-pr2.cpp) that uses the Date class in
your modified Chrono.cpp to allow the user to enter a date using any of the three Date constructor
formats (year-month-day constructor, default-date contructor, and the month-day-year constructor you
added) and then print out the result (using the Date class << operator). Don’t forget to have a way for the
user to exit the program. And don’t forget to check for errors.

Gulf Real Estate Properties Mathematics Assignment Help

Gulf Real Estate Properties, Inc. is a real estate firm located in southwest Florida. The company, which advertises itself as an “expert in the real estate market,” monitors condominium sales by collecting data on location, list price, sale price, and the number of days it takes to sell each unit. Each condominium is classified as Gulf View if it is located directly on the Gulf of Mexico, or No Gulf View if it is located on the bay or a golf course (near but not on the Gulf). Sample data from the Multiple Listing Service in Naples, Florida, provided sales data for 40 Gulf View condominiums and 18 No Gulf View condominiums. The complete data set is in the file named Real Estate, linked at the bottom of the page.

Managerial Report
Prepare a report (see below) that summarizes your assessment of the nature of the housing market in southwest Florida. Be sure to include the following seven (7) items in your report.

  1. Descriptive statistics (mean, median, range, and standard deviation) to summarize each of the three variables for the 40 Gulf View condominiums. Are there any outliers in the data set for any of the three variables? If there are any outliers in any category, please list them and state for which category they are an outlier. Describe which method you used to make your determination.
  2. Descriptive statistics (mean, median, range, and standard deviation) to summarize each of the three variables for the 18 No Gulf View condominiums. Are there any outliers in the data set for any of the three variables? If there are any outliers in any category, please list them and state for which category they are an outlier. Describe which method you used to make your determination.
  3. Compare your summary results from #1 and #2. Discuss any specific statistical results that would help a real estate agent understand the condominium market.
  4. Develop a 95% confidence interval estimate of the population mean sales price and population mean number of days to sell for Gulf View condominiums. Interpret your results.
  5. Develop a 95% confidence interval estimate of the population mean sales price and population mean number of days to sell for No Gulf View condominiums. Interpret your results.
  6. Assume the branch manager requested estimates of the mean selling price of Gulf View condominiums with a margin of error of $40,000 and the mean selling price of No Gulf View condominiums with a margin of error of $15,000. Using 95% confidence, how large should the sample sizes be for each?
  7. Gulf Real Estate Properties just signed contracts for two new listings: a Gulf View condominium with a list price of $589,000 and a No Gulf View condominium with a list price of $285,000. What is your estimate of the final selling price (based on the percent difference for the sale and list price) and number of days required to sell each of these units?
