The State of Maryland is developing a web-voting interface. For selecting the candidates, one design (RB) is a set of radio buttons and another is (CB) a combo-box (drops down when selecting the scroll arrow icon), both using standard fonts at 10-point size.

  1. Compare these two designs when there are 4 candidates and predict the relative speed of performance and error rates. Support your choice by a thoughtful argument.
  2. An expert reviewer complains that both designs may work with young users who are familiar and expert in using a mouse, but that there will be problems for elderly and motor-impaired users who have difficulty controlling a mouse. The reviewer recommends a new design that includes a larger font (20-point size) and a numbered list to allow selection by keyboard easily.

Describe a Participatory Design or Social Impact Statement process that might clarify this issue with elderly users.

  1. Design an experiment to help resolve the issue brought up in Question 3. Assume you have substantial resources and access to subjects.

HSTM 4470 Revenue Generation

MINI-PROJECT #1

This is due SATURDAY, June 30th by 11:59pm CST

PLEASE DIRECT ALL QUESTIONS OR CLARIFICATIONS – SHOULD BE ASKED ON THE DISCUSSION THREAD – “ASK YOUR INSTRUCTOR.”

Revenue Generation Project (20%)

As online students, sometimes there is little or no connection to our own university sport teams. Do some research on the Facebook page of Troy University Athletics, like the page & keep up with their promotion events throughout this course. They do a wonderful job in sport promotion (which leads to more revenue generation from fans, alumni, and corporate sponsors). Last year, our HSTM 4470 on campus students got to assist the athletic program during game day & other events to learn the ins and outs of the business side of the department. I wanted my online students to be a part of this partnership and no one could visualize how we could assist.

So here goes:
Attendance is the key to hosting several large scale events no matter where you are located. Troy Athletics does a fantastic job in promoting and coming up with several different “build-up” events that support the main revenue generating component of our football games.

Some of these are:

  • Troy Fan Day Troy Fan Day
  • Trojan Tour
  • Troy Women’s Football Clinic

These events highlight the players and coaches, promotes the sport, help various demographics have a deeper connection and level of understanding of everything that goes into having a successful football program, etc.

For this assignment, I want you to look in your surrounding area at any sports team (of any division) and see what they are doing for this type of promotion. What events (brief description or photo) are they hosting, follow and report the engagement of their social media pages, peruse their website and critique it, and highlight the top three events/promotions/gimmicks that you are seeing out there that they are doing successfully.

Summary
This doesn’t necessarily have to be a sports team, you may explore and brainstorm ways in which revenue could be generated for MWR at your base, a non-profit organization, highlight what a Convention & Visitors Bureau may be doing well, or some other HSTM related entity.

A great deal of follow-up and research will need to be conducted.
While there are technically no wrong ideas, credit will not be given for an idea unless it was thoroughly researched and justified. This includes financials that have been “vetted” by the appropriate experts in that field. While interacting with any professional in your area, please be respectful and explain this is for a class project and may not be able to come to fruition.

The presentation can be power point or a written paper (1,200 word minimum/16 slides). This project should be detailed as it relates to the origin of the ideas, practicality/reality of the proposed revenue generators, implementation. The use of a mission statement, goals, objectives, strategy, tactics, and roles is highly encouraged.

The criteria for the project will be as follows:

_____ (15 points) brief description of another university or sport organization in a city/town closest to you.
_____ (20 points) Content to include APA citations*(see below), social media & website review, top three events/promotions/gimmicks.
_____ (5 points) PowerPoint presentation or written paper (1,200 minimum words/ 16 slides (not counting title & references).

_____ (40 points) TOTAL
For full credit, please follow the required guidelines: For paper submissions: all should be written in a double-spaced, 12 pt font w/ 1” margins and should be at least the minimum word count assigned. All titles and references are not to be counted in the required length. The header should read [Student Name HSTM 4470 ASSIGNMENT #1]. The power point should be detailed and no just bullet points, make sure the content is as strong as a written paper would be on content.

*How to submit References in APA Format

References to other publications must be in APA style and carefully checked for completeness, accuracy and consistency.

You should cite publications in the text: (Adams, 2006) using the first named author’s name or (Adams and Brown, 2006) citing both names of two, or (Adams et al., 2006), when there are three or more authors. At the end of the paper a reference list in alphabetical order should be supplied:

Module 1 – SLP

INTRODUCTION AND DEFINING THE MSITM CAPSTONE COURSE REQUIREMENTS

As you know, the purpose of an SLP is to give you the opportunity to explore the applicability of the course learning to your own work-life. By this time, most MSITM students are assumed to have acquired a good deal of important knowledge about information technology and its management. Interestingly, you have likely also functioned (formally or informally) in the role of ‘internal organizational IT consultant’ (or can at least imagine what this might be like). Those of you who have been (or are) IT consultants or contractors (or simply just had to offer IT or other advice) certainly know that, in addition to technical knowledge and skill, you also have to acquire a set of successful ‘consulting techniques’, to include a set of suitable interaction/communication/political behaviors. You also have to know something about the organization and your customers, how to get at the data/issues, then get your message across, getting people to trust and respect you and a host of other things necessary to get the consulting role and keep it, or to get and keep an important IT project moving. This is only a little less true for the internal IT specialist or manager who must respond in many ways as a consultant to internal customers.

The SLP question thus is:

“What do I really know about my personal ‘consulting’ activities?”

Your task for this SLP is to: (1) do a little personal literature mining (properly cited) on the particulars and importance of the role of the IT consultant and the IT unit as a consultant to the organization. You are encouraged to look beyond personal behaviors and check out ‘organization development’ (OD) or general consulting literature to understand organizational techniques (i.e., ‘scanning’) and issues (such as political realities). In particular, you might wish to find one of the several ‘step’ models which suggest phased consulting activities; (2) note some truly important characteristics; and then (3) using this information as a guide, suggest your current most important consulting strengths as well as opportunities you see for improvement, based on both personal knowledge and your assignment literature review. Relate these strengths to the organizational unit for your project and discuss how the strength could benefit the IT outreach from that unit. Try to do this in three to four pages or so. (There is no penalty for a longer paper.) Note that you may wish to seek the opinions of co-workers in this largely self-diagnostic project. They may have some interesting insight for you. Remember, this is not a paper where you make generalized comments about what consultants do. It is about your insight and typical activities. Do not discuss personality ‘traits’ or ‘style labels’ you may have learned. You must discuss actual activities you now use when dealing with others and providing expert IT advice. For example, how well do you listen versus talk, or how well do you scan the organizational environment and try to find out about the politics of a given situation before you wade in with your advice or start a project? As noted above, you will wish to research the Web and check out traditional models of consulting behavior and typical behaviors in each ‘stage.’ For example, what are effective behaviors when one first enters any kind of consulting relationship? Again, stay out of the personality and trait literature; this is about observable activity. You may want to chat with people whom you have provided advice to, to see what they have observed. Be forewarned that generalized papers with no personal information, or including a ‘personality assessment’ will be graded as unresponsive to this assignment. Do not provide a technical outline or project details such as: “conduct project/needs analysis.” This is assumed.

SLP Assignment Expectations

These SLP papers require that you integrate, discuss, contiguously cite, and later fully reference at least three academically sound sources. Use enough concurrent discussion so that the purpose of each citation is apparent to the reader. Note that this paper is incomplete without at least three academically sound references (relevant magazine articles such as CIO are OK. Also, you may use Wikipedia and military/corporate references, but they do not count as one of the required three).

You will be assessed on the appropriateness and completeness of the detail you provide regarding your topic, your use of citations and references as noted above, and your intellectual insight into topically important issues.

You are expected to use correct grammar, spelling, and English vocabulary. Check your paper for missing or inappropriately used words. If in doubt, check the dictionary and not ‘spell check.’ Consider that this paper, and all others, will be reviewed by the CIO and/or your commanding officer. It is strongly suggested that you ask a trusted colleague to review and edit each of your papers.

Post your paper once it is completed.

Module 2 – SLP

ARCHITECTING THE IT GOVERNANCE PLAN

SLP ASSIGNMENT EXPECTATIONS

As a consultant to, or manager of, an IT unit within your selected organization, you must be keenly aware of challenges facing your selected organization. This assignment asks you to identify, intellectually discuss, and broadly report on at least two of the most important (in your view) strategic issues faced by your selected organization. In particular, note how these issues have influenced the organization you are considering. Why has the consideration of them positively affected that organization? Conversely, what have been the negative effects on the organization because of not considering them? Make sure you relate the issues and concerns you discuss to IT Governance. Additionally, if failure to properly consider an IT Governance issue has caused the organization problems, how would you alter the IT Strategy? Alternately, if the Governance Issues have aided the organization, what more might you recommend doing? Please provide some detail/examples as you write this paper.

Your paper’s title might be: Considering the Strategic Issues: Their Impact on IT Governance.

Module 3 – SLP

IT ORGANIZATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING

These SLP papers require that you integrate, discuss, contiguously cite, and later fully reference at least three academically sound sources. Use enough concurrent discussion so that the purpose of each citation is apparent to the reader. This paper is incomplete without at least three academically sound references. Relevant magazine articles such as CIO are acceptable. Also, you may use military/corporate references, but they do not count as one of the required three.

Finally, you are not to use any government/military classified or corporate-sensitive information in the development of any course papers or in any Discussion participation.

Module 4 – SLP

MANAGING COMPLEX IT ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE AND CAPSTONE PAPER

The continuing professional development of IT personnel is a key managerial responsibility. In this light, reflect on a subordinate and prepare a somewhat detailed and actionable professional development plan which would be intended for use in a forthcoming performance review session. In this plan, you should hypothetically assume the individual to be reviewed has indicated interest in a long-term organizational career and steady advancement. From your perspective, your plan would include both near- and long-term objectives and milestones to assist this individual in reaching his or her goals. This plan should include traditional professional development issues such as potential schools and assignments as well as some counsel on how to make use of organizational politics (e.g., getting a senior mentor) and maintain a visible, positive profile. Begin the paper with a brief academic review of the importance of subordinate professional development to personal and organizational performance (with appropriate citations), and then follow this with your detailed plan. The plan title might be: “Achieving Personal Success While Advancing Organizational Performance.”

SLP ASSIGNMENT EXPECTATIONS

These SLP papers require that you integrate, discuss, contiguously cite, and later fully reference at least three academically sound sources. Use enough concurrent discussion so that the purpose of each citation is apparent to the reader. This paper is incomplete without at least three academically sound references. Core Assessment essay Criminal justice Business Finance Assignment Help

An essay is a short work that treats a topic from an author’s personal point of view, often taking into account subjective experiences and personal reflections upon them.

In one part of the paper, you must report and reflect on an interview with a professional; in another you must observe an agency in action and report and reflect on the observation (a case in a courtroom, probation and parole clients reporting to their officer, ride alone in a police car), and in the third you must watch a movie and relate its contents to the course. The order of the interview, observation, or movie doesn’t matter. Thus, the first essay maybe a movie about law enforcement.

Each part of the paper should be two to three, computer-generated pages written in American Psychological Style (APA). You can learn about this style from the Park University web site. Late papers will not be accepted. Students should use six sources (the activity, your text, and four others) for each essay, and they should tie their topic to the text.

An essay is a well-structured (i.e., organized) presentation of your ideas about what you have read, observed, heard, and seen. It is presented in a way that is easy to follow and understand.

An essay can have many purposes, but the basic structure is the same no matter what. You may be writing an essay to argue for a particular point of view or to explain the steps necessary to complete a task. You may begin with a topic sentence such as:

  • The ride along with the ABC police was not as exciting as I expected after watching many police shows on television.
  • I observed in the DEF courtroom and was surprised to realize that 30 cases processed in an hour
  • The character? Red? played by Morgan Freeman in the movie Shaw shank Redemption was institutionalized by his long time in prison and this institutionalization related to the discussion in the text about the appropriateness of long prison sentences.

If in doubt, check the dictionary and not ‘spell check.’ Consider that this paper, and all others, will be reviewed by the CIO and/or your commanding officer. It is strongly suggested that you ask a trusted colleague to review and edit each of your papers.

Post your paper once it is completed.

Relevant magazine articles such as CIO are OK. Also, you may use military/corporate references, but they do not count as one of the required three.
