Background Information

Contemporary social work practice emphasizes the use of strengths-informed and evidence-based intervention techniques, such as narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Ongoing training and further education on each of these techniques (and many others) is recommended for social workers who work directly with clients in need. The media activity “In the Social Worker’s Office” depicts a client who would benefit from any of these intervention techniques or a combination of them. This clip demonstrates how even in an initial session, clients can make progress towards changing their perspective on their life story, their obstacles, and their ability to create change.

Instructions

1. In your textbook, Social Work Skills for Beginning Direct Practice, review Chapter 11.
2. Watch the presentation “In the Therapist Office”
   1. The activity will invite you to respond to questions about the session.
   2. Post your responses in the discussion board thread.
3. Consider how the NASW Code of Ethics applies to the intervention phase of the social work practice framework and how it applies to this case study scenario. Write one paragraph that describes how the use of strengths-based approaches with Kylie demonstrated an ethical approach to intervention with this client.
4. Reflect on the video watched during the previous workshop. What intervention might you use for your chosen character? Write one paragraph that describes how your chosen intervention and how you would use the intervention with the client. Use sources to support your answers.
5. Make your initial post by the 4th day of the workshop.
6. Use subheadings based on the discussion prompts to organize your post.
7. By the end of the workshop, read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. Your posts and responses should also:

3. Pretend you are a Supreme Court Justice who must render a decision in the three LGBT cases currently before the Supreme Court: Altitude Express v. Zarda, Bostock v. Clayton County, and Harris Funeral Home v. EEOC. I want you to act as a S.C. Justice and, drawing on what you have already in this assignment, the U.S. Constitution, and other relevant course materials, render a decision. How would you rule? Why? Scenario: Due to a twist of fate (and some brilliant networking), you have bid farewell to Braytech and now work for the company you wrote about in paper #2 (kraft heinz). PAPER 2 IS PROVIDED.

The ultimate goal of this paper is to craft a proposal based on some aspect of the research and evaluation you conducted in paper #2, offering the company and its leadership real and practical suggestions to further strengthen the company. This proposal should either 1) take a company strength and offer a means to further improve upon it, or 2) address and remedy a specific company weakness. Any number of proposals could be made to satisfy this assignment, so you do have quite a bit of creative latitude here. Consider all relevant research conducted for paper #2, knowing that you may need to perform additional research to rise to the burden of proof. Stronger papers will likely include a number of secondary sources to support the framework of the proposal. Clearly identify the audience for your proposal, then use the strategies from lecture, discussion, and your textbooks to accomplish your goals. You are welcome to use a targeted SWOT analysis as part of your brainstorming, but keep in mind that this is considered pre-writing and should not be a part of your final draft. This paper should avoid “magical thinking”: this proposal must be specific and needs to be reasonable, actionable, and practical for that company. Timelines and budgets must be part of this proposal, and visual aids should be used to help explain or clarify your proposal. Counterarguments, in an effort to avoid the logical fallacy of slanting, should also be part of the response.

You are welcome to use features from the second assignment, but you must cite these materials according to MLA standards—you will cite yourself as you would any other author, both in-text and in the Works Cited page. This assignment will be formatted in the same way as essay #2, and it must be cited thoroughly throughout and meticulously organized and proofread.

Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:
