Instructions
Each of you are going to choose a book to read for our course from a list I have curated to match the units we are going to cover during our 16 weeks together. The final project you will be complete for our course will be based on your book selection.
You might have noticed that on our syllabus, it clearly states that you do not need to buy any books for this course, and this is true. I will be asking you if you would like me to provide you with a PDF or an audiobook or both of your chosen text. (I do understand that some of you might want to either get this book from the library or buy it because you work better with something in your hands, and if you need help with that I can do that too.)
First, please watch the videos I have made below to introduce your choices. Yes, you get to see my face. (Feel free to also look up these books on the internet to inform which one you choose. You can also reach out to me for help in deciding although in the grand scheme of things, I do not care which one you end up working with.)
I really, really want you to choose a book that you are interested in as this text will be something you are working with the entire semester, so choose wisely.
After you have watched the videos and done a little thinking and sleuthing, please pick a book.
Once you have chosen your book, please answer the follow questions below:
- Which book did you choose to read for our class?
- Why drew you to pick this book? Why did you choose it? What went into your decision making?
- Do you need me to provide you with a pdf or audiobook of your book choice? Or both? Or do you need help finding a physical copy of the book?
I have split the videos into two: one focuses on Non-Fiction options and the other on Fiction options. You can also leave comments or questions if you want on the videos that I can answer.
If you want to choose something Non-Fiction, watch me:
If you want to choose something Fiction, watch me:
Better yet, watch them both.
Grading
Your initial response needs to answer the questions, and your response to at least two classmates should engage in the conversation.

JWI 530 Strayer University Cost Benefit Analysis Discussion Business Finance Assignment Help
Cost Benefit Analyisis
Option 1
As we discovered this week from our readings and video’s, not all cost-benefit decisions can be made from strictly financial data. Thinking about a project you have worked on or proposed, or a project which you feel is critical in your company or community, give an example of a non-financial metric which should be considered and why you think that non-financial metric should result in the approval of the project.
– OR –
Option 2
Your New Product Development initiative is at the stage where a Cost-Benefit Analysis is needed to prepare for the final presentation to management. There are multiples metrics you could use to quantify the benefit of your proposal (incremental sales, nominal payback, discounted payback, NPV and IRR). Choose the one that you feel is most crucial and would best help Management see the value in your proposal. Explain what the metric shows and then discuss how you would go about gathering the data and calculating this for your new initiative (and, if you have already done this in real life, share what you did and what response you got from Management).

J.R. is a nurse practitioner who serves an urban Chinese community. The challenges she faces daily include coordinating health care for the community members, fostering compliance with treatment regimens, and teaching the community about health prevention and early detection of diseases and conditions. J.R. has learned that one of the main reasons the community members do not adhere to their treatment regimens is because of mistrust of Western medicine. Many of the patients are older adults who rely on homeopathic treatments they learned in China as children. These patients prefer to take Chinese herbs in lieu of prescription medications. Additionally, these patients do not like to attend health screenings or take part in immunization clinics because they do not believe these measures are beneficial to their health. |
L.W. is a nurse practitioner in an urban community. Many of her clients recently immigrated to the United States from various countries. She is challenged by the many different cultures she encounters and the different values and beliefs they hold toward Western medicine. She is determined to earn her clients’ trust. She does this by providing health care services that are respectful of each client’s health beliefs and practices and cultural needs. She knows she must set aside her own values and beliefs to focus on what is important to her clients in order for them to have successful outcomes. |
D.H. is a nurse administrator at a large primary practice. His duties include maintaining the nurses’ schedules to keep within the facility’s budget; overseeing the hiring and training of nurses; ensuring that the work environment for the nurses is safe; and resolving any employment issues with the nurses that require disciplinary action, termination, or reporting adverse nursing care to the state board. One of his primary initiatives during the nurses’ orientation is to reiterate the importance of incorporating the goals of Healthy People 2020 into the nurses’ care. |

UNAHVS Right To Unproven Drugs Discussion Humanities Assignment Help
Write a 2-3 page paper that explains and defends your view on the issue of whether or not patients with no other treatment options have a moral right to unproven drugs.
INTRODUCTION
Many doctors, nurses, medical technicians, and other health care workers are involved in medical research. The field of medicine is not limited to the direct treatment of patients but also involves the continued expansion of medical research. A large part of such research is clinical research, which puts patients into the role of experimental subjects. This raises a number of challenging questions for health care ethics, many of which follow from the fact that physicians, nurses, and others involved in clinical research have a dual role. As researchers, they are committed to generating new knowledge about diseases, developing new treatments and drug therapies, and, in general, helping to improve the welfare of human beings by eliminating or controlling diseases and increasing longevity. However, researchers involved in clinical research must also be committed to the highest quality care for individual patients taking part in research studies. This assessment explores some of the ethical issues that clinical research raises and some of the safeguards in place to protect the interests of patients involved in research.
DEMONSTRATION OF PROFICIENCY
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
- Competency 1: Articulate ethical issues in health care.
- Explain how the principle of informed consent is relevant to these issues.
- Explain the costs and benefits of offering unapproved experimental drugs to patients.
- Competency 2: Apply sound ethical thinking related to a health care issue.
- Identify relevant ethical theories and moral principles.
- Articulate arguments using examples for and against offering pre-approved drugs to wider pools of patients.
- Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and respectful of the diversity, dignity, and integrity of others and is consistent with health care professionals.
- Exhibit proficiency in clear and effective academic writing skills.
PREPARATION
When a new drug is undergoing clinical trials to be approved for treatment, it must pass through a number of distinct phases of testing. These phases require rigorous study and evidence to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of new treatments. Passing through these phases and achieving approval takes many years for some trials. Before approval, patients not part of a clinical trial have limited or no access to experimental drugs, even though these drugs could be helpful and potentially save their lives. There are various groups pushing for greater patient access to drugs still in the experimental stage. In recent years, the FDA has made it somewhat easier to receive treatment with experimental drugs, but according to advocacy groups there are still too many restrictions (Munson, 2014).This leads to a potential quandary when early stages of research on a drug sometimes suggest that the drug could be effective in treating a certain disease. On one hand, offering easier access to early stage trial drugs could help individuals suffering with a medical condition. However, on the other hand, making early access to experimental drugs easier could limit the pool of patients available to participate in clinical trials that establish whether or not the drug is truly effective and safe. This is an important consideration, as the vast majority of experimental drugs turn out to be completely ineffective or could have very dangerous side effects that will only show up over time and across a wider test population. When completing this assessment, it is important to keep in mind the ethical arguments that are relevant to both views regarding the right to experimental drugs. It may be useful to review the suggested resources and conduct additional independent research while you are planning your assessment submission.
INSTRUCTIONS
Do patients with no other treatment options have a moral right to unproven drugs? Write a paper that explains and defends your view on this issue. In addition to reviewing the suggested resources, you are encouraged to locate additional resources in the Capella library, your public library, or authoritative online sites to provide additional support for your viewpoint. Be sure to weave and cite the resources throughout your work. In your paper, address the following points:
- Identify relevant ethical theories and moral principles.
- Explain how the principle of informed consent is relevant to the issue.
- Explain the costs and benefits of making unproven, unapproved experimental drugs widely available to patients. Consider the costs and benefits not only to the individual patients who take these drugs but also potential costs and benefits to other patients.
- Explain arguments using examples for and against offering pre-approved drugs to wider pools of patients.
- Support your view using ethical theories or moral principles (or both) that you find most relevant to the issue.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
- APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and formatting guidelines.
- Length: 2–3 typed, double-spaced pages.
- Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Peer Discussion 1 (Kristen)
Recently, I experienced a communication error between a nurse and a patient. The type of communication was verbal communication. “Verbal communication is a simple form of communication but can become complex when trying to understand the cues conveyed by choice of words” (Pearson, n.d.). During the discharge instructions, the nurse was going over what to expect such as the symptoms the patient may experience. In a rush, the nurse told the patient that if she continued to experience COVID symptoms to come back to the ER. The nurse was supposed to inform the patients that If the symptoms get worse then to come back. The nurse did not clarify that and the patient came back 2 days later stating she was feeling the same and had no new symptoms but came back because the nurse informed her to come back if she was still experiencing symptoms. This communication could have been prevented if the nurse took the time to go over the discharge instructions with the patient and discussed how long the patients symptoms may last and if symptoms get worse to come back. When we complete discharges, we are supposed to go over the discharge and repeat the key points at the end. “It is helpful to repeat information so that the sender can verify that the correct message was received” (Pearson, n.d.). My workplace recently started a new discharge step that included calling the patient the day after discharge and going over the discharge manager. The discharge manger includes going over discharge instructions again and seeing if the patient was able to fill prescriptions and get a follow up appointment with their primary physician or a specialist if needed. This allows any clarifications or new questions the patients may have to be answered.

Peer Discussion 2 (Tina)
Communication is necessary in many industries, but it is essential for the medical world. Poor communication, miscommunication, and deprived contact can lead to medical errors, such as treatment or diagnostic errors (Day & Beard, 2019). Quality communication is an essential part of the health care sector. Effective communication between nurses and carers is essential for safety and patient outcomes.
The impact of poor communication on medical errors may be more significant than indicated in the report, as it focuses only on cases of medical malpractice. It has been estimated that medical staff have poor communication during the transfer of patients, which causes 80% of serious medical errors. The following situation is an excellent example of how communication can give patients better results.
The first parties included anesthesiologist and nurses. The hospital recently purchased a new blood handling device during surgical procedures. To date, the anesthesiologist has been trained and used in six surgical procedures. The device is used in this surgical condition. In this case, the device comes with two units of blood. When the anesthetist used the last unit of blood, the patient suddenly developed cardiac arrest. Anesthesiologist Dr T could not suspect air embolism and was unable to take appropriate resuscitation measures. The communication technique could not be practiced appropriately.
The lapse in communication could have been prevented, and the patient would have been successfully resurrected, but the oxygen supply to the brain was limited for a long time. It was realized that he was exposed to severe brain damage in the following days due to lack of oxygen. He was sent to a talented nursing home, hoping to return to work. There were many causes of air embolism, but communication between the anesthesiologist, the nurse and the surgeon was blocked, and new tools to understand the root causes of the side effects could not be understood.

Columbia Southern University Ergonomic Issues & Posture Hazard Powerpoint Health Medical Assignment Help
Course Project Part 3: PowerPoint Presentation
In Units IV and VII, you explained a workstation and identified whether or not you thought it was ergonomically safe. For this assignment, imagine that you are an organization’s safety professional and are explaining the issues you noted previously regarding the workstation. Additionally, you will include strategies for improving the safety of the employees, and you will make recommendations for what management can do to address the ergonomics issues specific to the organization. (Hint: Make sure that you read the Unit VIII Lesson!)
Your PowerPoint presentation must be a minimum of 10 slides in length, not counting the title and reference slides. Additionally, you must use at least your textbook as an outside source, and all sources used must be cited and referenced according to APA standards.
Additionally, you will include audio along with your PowerPoint in order to fully explain your ideas and suggestions. If you are unfamiliar with adding audio to a PowerPoint presentation, click here to access a helpful tutorial.
If you are unable to add audio to your PowerPoint, you will use the notes section to further explain your ideas.
Here is the information from my Unit IV Assignment
The workstation that I will be performing an ergonomics hazard assessment on is dealing
with Manual Materials Handling (MMH) where the tasks I perform require me to move things
from one place to another. Lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, and holding, are all
types of Manual Materials Handling.
The hazards of this workstation are Force, Posture, and Repetition. Manual Material
Handling that require a high level of force to be exerted, or tasks that require lower levels of f
force but require a person to handle and carry items for a long period of time or over long
distances can lead to muscle fatigue, muscle strain, pain and discomfort. Some examples of this
force is lifting and lowering wooden boxes and crates, and another is pushing and pulling a
loaded pallet jack. The hazard of Posture involves us employees adopting awkward postures
because of the design of our workstation or work area and forces us into these postures. Some
examples of this is bending at waist when lifting or lowering and reaching to get items above
shoulder height. Repetition comes into play when tasks are repeated over the course of the day.
One example would be of lifting and lowering wooden boxes and crates.
Some potential stressors are the work environment that includes heat in the summer
months and cold weather in the winter. The hazards of force, posture, and repetition are
influenced by how long a person performs one or many manual materials handling tasks and this
makes up time and duration. So, the longer we perform these tasks before you have a significant
change in task demands the greater the risk of injury. There are other hazards that can reduce
performance and increase the risk of manual material handling related injuries include the type of
grip used, handles or no handles, size, shape and stability of the load, space to move, floor
surfaces conditions and traction, and lighting and temperature.
Lifting and lowering is associated with low back injuries when performing manual
material handling tasks. So, when lifting and lowering is very important so us as employees have
to be careful in the work area because the task may create hazards that may increase the risk of
injury. When handling the wooden boxes and crates from above the shoulders is very hazardous
because of the awkward neck, shoulder and back postures required. In order to handle these
wooden crates safely above our shoulders, the wooden boxes and crates should be very light.
When reaching out to the side on an angle or twisting when handling the wooden boxes and
crates this may increase the strain on muscles, spinal discs and joints. Sometimes we have to get
these items out skid boxes and this is will cause very hazardous back postures and we should try
to avoid this as much as possible.
The precautions we as employees should take are workers should attach handles or holders
to loads if possible. We should have personal protective equipment such as hand and forearm
protection, gloves for the wooden boxes and crates they may rough edges, eye protection, steel-
toed safety shoes or boots and hard hats.
