Essay must receive a 90-100 percent grade! Should be familiar with the topic and be able to write an A paper.
Essay Prompt: Choose just ONE of the stories we read by Bierce, Gilman, Ellison, O’Connor, or Kafka. Write an essay that critically analyzes the story’s deeper theme AND explains the story’s conclusion. According to your interpretation, what is the deeper meaning of the story? Make sure you don’t simply summarize the story’s plot or retell the entire story. Imagine your highly intelligent friends read the story but did not understand anything but the basics of the plot. Draw their attention to important textual details and provide a clear and smart explanation of what the author you believe was trying to say by writing this story. Important things happen in the conclusion of each story, so also make sure you spend at least a paragraph explaining the ending. A good place to start is to write a thesis sentence that directly makes an argument about the story’s deeper meaning.
Paper format/requirements: The paper should be 4 full pages of writing before the Works Cited page. You are expected to write a complete essay consisting of an introduction, thesis, body paragraphs, conclusion, and works cited. Each body paragraph should have a strong topic sentence and focus on arguing/analyzing a single point. Try to use textual evidence such as quotations as much as possible to support your argument. Always make sure to carefully explain and analyze the quotations afterwards. No outside research is required or rewarded.
Grading: Your grade will be based on the insightfulness of your critical thinking and the quality of your writing. In your interpretation of the story, be sure to make an argument that is clear, complex, and thorough. Avoid stating the obvious, relying on cultural clichés, and reducing the complexity of the story’s ideas. Especially avoid carelessly repeating what you may have found from online sources. Your essay needs to not only follow the rules of grammar but also demonstrate your control over style. Although you may be incorporating many details and quotations from the story into your essay, you need to make sure the writing remains smooth and appealing.
On Avoiding Plot Summaries: While your body paragraphs might be organized around particular scenes in the story (especially the story’s conclusion), you need to spend most of your essay analyzing what the story means. You may need to refer to details about the plot that are necessary to support your argument, but do not let your paragraphs simply summarize or retell the plot. Each body paragraph therefore should have a topic sentence that makes an argumentative claim rather than just summarizes the plot.
Bad topic sentences that are just plot summary: Next, the narrator of “Battle Royal” dives for coins on an electric rug. After Gregor scares his mother, his father violently pushes him back into his room.
Good topic sentences that make an argument: The electric rug symbolizes the false promises of economic opportunity that the African American community received. Gregor’s father not only financially exploits him but also treats him in a violent, unloving manner.
You are free to organize the essay any way you wish. I would assume most papers would start with an introduction about the general theme of the story. For example, if discussing alienation in Kafka’s story, you could start with a few sentences about the problem of alienation in our society. After a few sentences on the theme, you would introduce your author and story and claim they have a lot to show us about this theme. The introduction would then end with a clear topic sentence arguing the deeper meaning of the story. It might follow a formula such as this one: Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” shows us …..
As far as the body paragraphs, there is no standard format and the analysis of each story could be organized in very different ways depending on your preference. The biggest priority is to make sure the paragraphs are unified and have strong topic sentences. Many of them might be organized around characters, with one or more paragraphs analyzing particular aspects of a character. Or the paragraphs might focus on specific scenes in the story, but offering an analysis of the deeper meaning and not just plot summary. And of course the paper might move between characters and scenes and other topics.

Data and creative design help communication managers to make informed
decisions in communications planning, budgeting and optimization of
media touchpoints. This assignment will provide each student the
opportunity to practice interactive data analysis and decision making.
The assignment challenges each student to use the data associated with
the tableau software to create three visualizations, and an INTERACTE
DASHBOARD that inform decisions on how to spend the company’s
advertisement budget. The assignment is accompanied by useful Tableau
links that show how to complete different tasks, and sample tableau
projects. There are 3 parts to this assignment. See the instructions
below.
Part 1: creation of visualizations (3 points)
Please
use the Global Superstore data attached to the tableau software to
create two visualizations and an interactive Dashboard. Based upon your
analysis, advice Global Superstore how to allocate its communications
budget moving forward. Your visualization should show the following (a)
sales by product category; (b) sales by month; and (c) sales by zip
code. This means you are required to create 3 different graphs/charts
that answer these questions.
Part 2: creation of a Dashboard (2 points)
Create
an interactive Dashboard that show the charts/graphs you created in one
platform and properly label each. Please pay attention during the
Tableau workshop on Thursday, March 26.
Part 3:Analysis and recommendation (5 points)
This
is the descriptive and critical component of the visualizations and
dashboard you created. Please describe the visualizations created and
the implications for the company’s advertising efforts. Please advise
Global Superstore on the following:
- What products should receive the highest advertising dollars and why?
- Which regions/zip codes should the company concentrate its advisement efforts and why?
- Which months should receive the highest advertisement efforts and why? Think about frequency and effective frequency theory.
(d)
Share the steps you took in the creation of your analysis and
recommendation. This background will put your recommendation in proper
perspective, and help your company/stakeholders grasp the importance of
your recommendation.
(e) What obstacles did you encounter in the
creation of the visualizations and dashboards, and how did you resolve
the obstacles?
(f) What lessons did you learn from completing this task.

It is not necessary to remove your clothes for this assignment.
You are going to build a simple instrument called a sextant, which is used for measuring the elevation of objects in the sky. Elevation is just the angle from the horizon to the object. For example, in San Diego the elevation of the North Star is 32 deg
Go to this link https://solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov/suntime/sxtnt_tchr.pdf (Links to an external site.)
and follow the instructions on the third page. You need a protractor.
The half circle type. You may have a plastic protractor around the
house. If not, you can print out a paper protractor from this link:
The
paper protractor is too flimsy by itself, so glue or tape it to a piece
of cardboard to make it stiff. Cut away the excess cardboard. You are
going to sight along the straight edge of the protractor to aim at the
sun. Ultimatley, I want you to measure the elevation of the sun over
several hours as it gets higher and higher, on its way to local noon..
To get credit, send me a photo of your sextant.
then after you send a picture of it you will use it !!!!!!
Attention,
It’s
time to do something with your sextants. The building of the sextant is
worth ten points. Using it to determine the elevation of the Sun at
local noon will also be worth ten points. The elevation of the Sun is
the angle between the horizon and the Sun.
You will make observations of the Sun over a period of about four hours, from 10 a.m. to 2 pm., on a sunny day.
Sight
along the straight edge of your sextant. Aim the straight edge at the
Sun, just as you would aim the barrel of a gun. The weighted string will
hang against one of the degree markings on the protractor. If you have
an assistant, instruct him/her/it to take note of the degree mark the
string hangs against. If no partner, try to press the string against the
protractor as soon as you have sighted in the Sun, keeping the string
in place, before you lower the sextant. Do this as fast as you can. Do
not stare at the Sun for more than a few seconds. Wear sun glasses if
possible.
The middle of the curved part of the protractor is 90
degrees. Count how many degree markings are between your string and the
90 degree mark on your protractor. That angle is the elevation of the
Sun. The Sun’s elevation reaches a maximum at local noon. So take an
elevation measurement at 10 a.m., one at 10:30, 11:00, etc., every half
hour until 2 pm. You will see the elevation numbers rise to a max, then
decrease again. That max occurs at local noon.
Your measured
elevations should fall in the range of 40 degrees to 70 degrees. I’m
going to measure it too, so don’t just make stuff up. Email me a table
of times and elevations. You must send a photo of your sextant (previous
project) to be elegible for points on this project

There are two papers, please read them and only summarize the assay/thermogenesis part. Do it on one document but separate them. If you have any question, please ask. Again without having access, this task can’t be completed. If you see just the abstract that means you don’t have access to the qebsite.
