Do you believe progressive taxes, regressive taxes, or flat taxes are most fair, history help Humanities Assignment Help
Respond with no less than 200 words on why you agree.
Do you believe progressive taxes, regressive taxes, or flat taxes (or a combination of all three) are most “fair.” Explain your answer.
Taxes are the one thing that most people can say they could live without, or could they? Taxes serve as a vital part of our society and how we function as a government. Without taxes, we would have to live without many public services and our government would have a hard time functioning. Even though we pay taxes, people often dispute the amount that they are taxed and what the government actually uses the money for. At the same time, people are often torn between what type of tax system we should have. Should the wealthy pay more taxes since they have more money? Should everyone be taxed the same to promote fairness from the government? The United States currently participates in what is known as a progressive tax system, which simply states that the more taxable income you have, the higher percentage you are taxed.
I understand that there is a lot more that goes into the U.S. progressive tax system; however, I still do not support the foundation of the system. With this in place, the richer individuals are paying a larger portion of taxes because they are well off. This illustrates that the better your life is, the more you are taxed. I do not like this system because you are essentially punishing those who are doing well for themselves and desire to be the best they can be. I understand that those who are not afforded certain opportunities should not receive the same tax burden as those who are in higher social classes but requiring others to pay a substantially larger chunk is not fair.
Those who are paying less through our progressive tax system are the same ones who are receiving benefits from government funded programs. I believe that everyone should receive a flat tax rate while incorporating a system where those who are less fortunate and contributing to society can be eligible to receive deductions on their taxes. I do not like the idea that certain individuals who make more money have to be required to pay a higher tax rate. The whole meaning behind the American dream states that you should be able to pursue your endeavors and goals without worrying about any type of punishment from the government. The flat tax system is a more fair system of taxing the population and it maintains that people should do as well in life as they can.

Should voting be restricted to those with a college education, history homework help Humanities Assignment Help
Respond with no less than 200 words on why you agree.
Should voting be restricted to those with a college education? Why or Why not?
Many people have debated as to whether or not people should be required to have a specific amount of education in order to be qualified to vote. For example, there have been those who state that people should be required to obtain a college education before they should be allowed to vote. I understand that people should have some sort of sound understanding and education so that they can make an informed decision when voting for politicians; however, there are other issues that this will cause if implemented into our political system.
It is important to keep in mind that the voting age used to be 21 but was reduced to 18 because this was the age that the government was requiring individuals to register for the Selective Service. Registering for the Selective Service places your name in the system to, if needed, be drafted for a war that the U.S. is involved in. With this in mind, if you are old enough to fight and possibly die for your country in combat, then you should be allowed to vote for the people who make the decisions to go to war and send troops overseas. The age of 18 is also when many people are considered an adult and start working to support themselves. Many people are not afforded the opportunity to pursue a college degree and desire to begin their careers once they graduate high school.
Another negative aspect that this type of law would have is that you would naturally exclude the various ethnic groups that are represented on college campuses. The three main groups of people who are represented in national elections are Non-Hispanic Whites, Non-Hispanic-Blacks, and Hispanic. The latest polls state that approximately 58% of college students are white, 15% are black, and 17% are Hispanic. Considering these numbers, both the black and Hispanic votes would be poorly and inadequately represented.
These are just a few examples as to why incorporating a college requirement when voting would serve as a disservice to our American system of government. Yes, it is important to become knowledgeable about American politics and make educated decisions concerning politicians but requiring people to receive a college education will not solve any problems. At 18 years of age, an individual is perceived as an adult and should be allowed to make adult decisions and this type of law will misrepresent the population and their opinion during an election.

calculate the expected value of the number of marked numbers, math homework help Mathematics Assignment Help
Twenty distinct integers are arranged in a list in a random order, such that all 20! orderings are equally likely. Going down the list, one marks every number that is larger than all earlier numbers on the list. In particular, the first number of the list is marked. Show that, for each i = 1, 2, …, 20, the probability that the ith number on the list is marked is 1/i. What is the expected value of the number of marked numbers on the list?
I understand how to calculate the probability part: for every set of i numbers, there are a total of i! ways to arrange the numbers, but only (i-1)! ways to arrange them so that the biggest number is in the last position, so the probability that the ith number is marked is (i-1)!/i! = 1/i. But how do I use this probability (or should I use it at all?) to calculate the expected value of the number of marked numbers? It seems very complicated.
