300 words answer question based on this video and poem NO OUTSIDE SOURCE Humanities Assignment Help

Below is a video of spoken word poet Patricia Smith performing her poem “Skinhead.”

Watch it; watch it many times. At the bottom of this page, you’ll find the poem written out in its entirety (CC on Youtube botches the words, so be sure to also read the poem). You’ll notice Parker in her reading changes the words a little here and there from the written version, but this happens with spoken word: the poem is memorized, so she adjusts as she performs it over the years.)

Now, write 300 words answering this question and defending your answer:

Is this a piece of literature? Why or why not?

Note that there is no right or wrong answer. You are making a clear yes or no argument. Now that you’ve taken this class, you should be able to give an academically defensible definition of what literature is. Then show how this piece fulfills (or doesn’t fulfill) that definition.

You are NOT ALLOWED to use outside sources beyond the video and poem itself. I want to hear YOUR ideas only and YOUR interpretation of the text. Think for yourself.

To be fair, I offer some context for the international students in the class: a “skinhead” is a white racist (neo-Nazi) who shaves his head clean. In the skinhead’s view, white, Anglo-Saxon Protestant straight males like themselves are victims. The forces working against them are the US government, Muslims, Jews, gays, undocumented immigrants, Catholics, and other groups. Really, that is all anyone needs to know to understand the poem and what the poet is up to.

Good luck!

“Skinhead” by Patricia Smith

They call me skinhead, and I got my own beauty.
It is knife-scrawled across my back in sore, jagged letters,
it’s in the way my eyes snap away from the obvious.
I sit in my dim matchbox,
on the edge of a bed tousled with my ragged smell,
slide razors across my hair,
count how many ways
I can bring blood closer to the surface of my skin.
These are the duties of the righteous,
the ways of the anointed.

The face that moves in my mirror is huge and pockmarked,
scraped pink and brilliant, apple-cheeked,
I am filled with my own spit.
Two years ago, a machine that slices leather
sucked in my hand and held it,
whacking off three fingers at the root.
I didn’t feel nothing till I looked down
and saw one of them on the floor
next to my boot heel,
and I ain’t worked since then.

I sit here and watch niggers take over my TV set,
walking like kings up and down the sidewalks in my head,
walking like their fat black mamas named them freedom.
My shoulders tell me that ain’t right.
So I move out into the sun
where my beauty makes them lower their heads,
or into the night
with a lead pipe up my sleeve,
a razor tucked in my boot.
I was born to make things right.

It’s easy now to move my big body into shadows,
to move from a place where there was nothing
into the stark circle of a streetlight,
the pipe raised up high over my head.
It’s a kick to watch their eyes get big,
round and gleaming like cartoon jungle boys,
right in that second when they know
the pipe’s gonna come down, and I got this thing
I like to say, listen to this, I like to say
“Hey, nigger, Abe Lincoln’s been dead a long time.”

I get hard listening to their skin burst.
I was born to make things right.

Then this newspaper guy comes around,
seems I was a little sloppy kicking some fag’s ass
and he opened his hole and screamed about it.
This reporter finds me curled up in my bed,
those TV flashes licking my face clean.
Same ol’ shit.
Ain’t got no job, the coloreds and spics got ’em all.
Why ain’t I working? Look at my hand, asshole.
No, I ain’t part of no organized group,
I’m just a white boy who loves his race,
fighting for a pure country.
Sometimes it’s just me. Sometimes three. Sometimes 30.
AIDS will take care of the faggots,
then it’s gon’ be white on black in the streets.
Then there’ll be three million.
I tell him that.

So he writes it up
and I come off looking like some kind of freak,
like I’m Hitler himself. I ain’t that lucky,
but I got my own beauty.
It is in my steel-toed boots,
in the hard corners of my shaved head.

I look in the mirror and hold up my mangled hand,
only the baby finger left, sticking straight up,
I know it’s the wrong goddamned finger,
but fuck you all anyway.
I’m riding the top rung of the perfect race,
my face scraped pink and brilliant.
I’m your baby, America, your boy,
drunk on my own spit, I am goddamned fuckin’ beautiful.

And I was born

and raised

right here.

Literary essay on Desgrace by J.M Coetzee Humanities Assignment Help

Subject: ****i need the thesis ASAP***

Choosing your literary essay topic and the approach you will take on Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee is the first step to writing the paper due as the last assignment of this module.

Topics/ approaches (Focus your thesis on only one of the following, though some may overlap):

  1. Analysis of one of these characters: Lucy Lurie, Melanie Isaacs or Petrus.

Example: Analyze not only the chosen character’s personality, but also what role the character played in advancing the overall theme of the novel. Please state what the overall message/ theme of the novel is.

  2. The protagonist’s understanding of the nature of the conflict to be resolved and the hurdles to be overcome. What does David Lurie get to understand about his misuse of power? How does he arrive at this insight?

Example: It could be hope for change, both in South Africa (the acknowledgment of past crimes committed and of how the powerful can continue to be oblivious to their own oppression of others) and in David Lurie. OR: the disgrace David Lurie has to suffer through the affair with a student in order for him to understand his own misuse of power, and how this recognition echoes the disgrace and oppression South African citizens of color have suffered through apartheid and its aftermath.

  3. The function of setting to reinforce theme and characterization

Example: post-apartheid South Africa as a setting is most important in the novel. Your outside sources would be the history of apartheid and the lasting consequences and conditions it has created.

  4. The use of literary devices to communicate theme: imagery, metaphor, symbolism, foreshadowing, irony

Example: Symbolism — Analyze what the concept of dogs represents in this story. OR: Determine if David Lurie represents the old, white South Africa, while Lucy represents the new white South Africa.

  5. Point of view: The author’s focus on the perspectives of one or more characters.

Example: The difference between David’s and Lucy’s perspectives on how to respond to the social problems in post-apartheid South Africa and how that fits with the author’s theme or main message.

  6. Careful examination of one or more central scenes and its/their crucial role in plot development, resolution of conflict, and exposition of theme.

Example: Analyze one or more scenes in which hope that change for the better is possible through a character’s insight of his misuse of power, his remorse and subsequent actions to perhaps achieve redemption or self-awareness.

Later on, after you choose your thesis, you will research information to support your thesis (for the body of the essay). You will need to go to a library database (see “How to Access Miami Dade Databases” under Module 1 Resources) or a valid search site, such as Google Scholar to find articles about Disgrace, post-apartheid South Africa, etc. Please use information from TWO articles in your paper, and plan on using THREE short quotes from the novel to support your opinion and analysis. You may also quote from the articles that you use to develop your paper.

The paper should have 5 paragraphs minimum, about 750 words (that’s about 3 typed, double-spaced pages in Times New Roman 12 pt. font).

Please note: Biographical material is important as it influences the author’s writing; however, it should not be the focus of your paper. If you do make a brief reference to biographical material, remember to cite the source from which you acquired it. Also remember that Wikipedia is not considered an academic source. Though it is useful for background and general information, Wikipedia will not count toward the two articles required.

Paper Description Internal processes of a company contribute to the company’s overall effectiveness. Identifying ways to improve internal processes helps build a highly efficient organization. Root causes need to be identified. Methods to identify root causes may require substantial analysis or be apparent based on a major problem within the organization.

For example, review the assigned article, “Inside Chipotle’s Contamination Crisis: Smugness and Happy Talk About Sustainability Aren’t Working Anymore,” from Bloomberg Businessweek. Research several other sources regarding Chipotle’s food contamination crisis. Create a flowchart of the original supply chain and how Chipotle supplies each of the restaurant chains. Provide your own commentary. Create another flowchart that suggests a new way to supply the restaurant chains.

Review another restaurant chain that does not currently have a major public problem but would benefit from evaluating its manufacturing process to improve competitiveness. Specifically, provide recommendations on how to improve the company’s current supply chain. Create a flowchart to illustrate your recommendations. Provide a summary of how you came to your recommendations. Include any formal strategies and informal thought processes you used to reach your conclusions. Provide rationale for either using or not using Six Sigma methodology, ISO quality benchmarking, lean supply chain processes, or TQM.

Submit all three flowcharts and commentary for each flowchart in a single document. Provide three to five resources to support your response.

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Finance Class Business Finance Assignment Help

This project is based on the WOK YOW IMPORTS, INC. case found in your textbook under Chapter 14.Please read the case carefully. An excel spreadsheet is provided that has the solution to the case along with suggested answers to the case questions. Please go over the excel sheet first and make sure that you can follow the calculations for the discounted cash flow valuation method (enterprise valuation method).

All the formulas are built into the excel file so when you go over a cell, you can track how the calculation for each number on the sheet is done.Pay special attention to the financial ratios, growth assumptions, calculation of the free cash flows for the foreseeable future (5 years) and the calculation of the terminal value. These future free cash flows are then discounted back to time zero using the discount rate (WACC).

Once you feel comfortable on the model and the solutions to the case, I want you to answer the following questions to complete your project assignment:

Using the provided financial statements as a starting point:

  1. The DCF valuation and pro forma financials with five years of forecasted growth rates are provided in the original model. Please modify the model to consider a more successful scenario where Wok Yow’s sales grow at a more aggressive pace of 40% for five years and then flatten to a more sustainable growth rate of 7%.What would the stock value per share be under the new scenario? What kind of strategic changes you would make in the business model to justify the growth assumption? How would you do things differently? You can use fictional events to justify your assumptions.

  1. Prepare and present DCF valuations and pro forma financial statements (five-year explicit period) that justify a $31 and a $56 share price. You can play with the model assumptions to get to these valuations. Propose two different business plans that would be targeting these two different outcomes.Make sure the ratios embedded in your projections conform to reasonable operating ratio assumptions in the models. Also remember that higher risk business strategies come with higher expected returns.

  1. Discuss the $31 and $56 IPO prices for Wok Yow within the context of comparable firms and their multiples. You can use some outside reference materials from companies in similar industries for comparison purposes. Then take a position on whether you would recommend the $31 or $56 IPO.Which one is more feasible?Take a position on which of the two business plans you would invest in as an investor, which financial instrument of the company you would want to invest in and what kind of a return you would expect on your money.

  1. Prepare an executive summary discussing the events and decisions leading to its current situation, the options it currently has moving forward, and your recommendations for Wok Yow’s near future. The events in the summary will be fictional.

Guidelines:

Please copy and paste the original excel sheet into a new worksheet and make your changes on the new one for each of the models you are working on.I want to be able to follow your calculations relating to the answers to each question on a different excel worksheet in the same file.Highlight the changes that you make on the model so that your changes can be traced easily.

You will need to make changes on the company’s operations in order to increase growth rate to 50%, and in order to justify the $31 and $56 stock valuations. In all cases be sure to explain your modeling assumptions on operating and financing of the venture and provide a summary of the four scenarios.

Your grade on the project will be based on the accuracy of your calculations and more importantly, on the coherent nature of the assumptions of different strategies and their likely effect on the future projections of the financial model. For example, a more efficient inventory management system would decrease the company’s NOWC and would free up cash flow, increasing the value of the firm.I would want to see that the “improved inventory management” is mentioned in the business strategy and also the required NOWC amounts lowered in the financial model, leading to a greater company valuation. If a strategy is mentioned but its financial implications cannot be traced to the financial model, you will loose points.

The work can be completed in a single excel file with multiple worksheets.Your answers to the 4 questions can be on one worksheet and you can reference your answers to each question the corresponding worksheet that has the relevant model. This would make it easier for me to track your answers and your financial models.

Setting:

Be sure that you are using a thoughtful setting for the STAGE.

First, look at my responses to you regarding your list of settings, characters, conflict, etc. that you emailed.

Then, choose the direction you most prefer — take a direction that will be fun and will g

ive you a solid sense of

discovery and exploration.

Hone your ideas about your direction to create a

solid relationship with your two characters

, and use a

strong conflict that they are confronting

. Think of ONE of the characters as taking the most important

journey, one who has the most to gain or to lose.

IMPORTANT Guidelines and Aspects

A.

• Each scene will involve both characters throughout the scene in one, constant setting with no exits

• All action will be sustained in the selected setting in a single time period (no shifts in time)

• Be sure to review the Information Station comments given on Friday, Week 1

B.

Create a dialogue between the two characters that clearly shows the following:

• solid traits distinguishable with each character

• traits contrast from one character to another

• character voices are clear and distinctive

• a solid relationship is seen between the characters

• a strong conflict is clearly seen, BOTH external conflict AND internal conflict

• we get a sense of inner characteristics and deeper levels of characters

• rising tension is clearly seen: VERY IMPORTANT aspect to use

• some strong actions are included; devise some significant actions

(these can be simple, such as tearing petals off of a flower, or more complex, such as throwing a

chair across the room)

• we get a sense that one of the characters has more “at stake”

Notes on stage directions and spacing

Use stage directions only where needed to show more about the character, or to notate essential blocking.

Use single-spacing for each separate character’s voice.

Place stage directions in parentheses. (Also

italicize

IF

you are using a publishing format.)

Use only one space to separate the end of one character’s dialogue and the next character’s dialogue (see below)

Here is an example, using a publishing format:

CLASS NOTE for your scene: Look at the way these two character “voices” are very distinct from each other.

You immediately assume traits about Carla and Samuel by the way they phrase their sentences, etc., and by the

“attitudes” we are assuming about them. SO, think about how your characters are distinct from each other, with

individual wants, needs, different backgrounds and contrasts, etc.
