For the first writing assignment, you will select one of the artwork/architecture examples from Chapters One through Five (1-5), and write a short paper that addresses the artwork through some of the ideas presented in the opening weeks of the course. This includes (but is not limited to) ideas regarding: formal analysis, thematic content, function and historical context.
PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK THAT YOUR ESSAY MEETS THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
The topic of your paper must be one of the examples shown in Chapters 1 – 5 of your textbook.
Your paper matches the submitted Topic Proposal assignment
Your essay should be both descriiptive and analytical of the art object and architectural structure you select.
Hint: Break it down into three steps:
1. The Obvious (Descriiption)
2. The Iconography (decoding the imagery)
3. The Context (when and why was this created?)
Not just descriiption, the essay should address describe the historical context of the work, even if it is a contemporary example.
Required RESOURCES: You should have at least three resources (For example: books, online essays, museum lectures, in addition to the textbook), which you refer to in the paper in support of the descriiption of the object and/or its content.
Required CITATIONS: Your paper should include at least 5 citations, meaning quotes (direct or indirect) from those resources in either MLA or Chicago Manual of Style, in support of the descriiption and analysis of the object and/or its content.

between 3 – 4.5 pages of TEXT (not including class information/footnotes/images).
