Topographical Map lab Report Important Information to READ first, then Science Assignment Help
Part A: You will
answers the 6 questions below
Topographical Map Information:
Contour Intervals Since each contour line represents a
specific elevation, two different contour are separated by the same difference
in elevation (e.g. 20 ft or 100 ft.). This difference between contour lines is
called the contour interval. You can calculate the contour interval by
following these steps:
a. Take the difference in elevation between 2 bold lines.
b. Divide that difference by the number of contour lines
Imagine that the difference between two bold lines is 100
feet and there are five lines between them. What is the contour interval? If
you answered 20 feet, then you are correct (100 ft/5 lines = 20 ft between
lines). 100 ÷ 5 = 20 ft between lines.
The legend on the map also gives the contour interval.
Interpreting Contour Maps
How does a topographic map tell you about the terrain? Let’s
consider the following principles:
1. The spacing of
contour lines shows the slope of the land. Contour lines that are close
together indicate a steep slope. This is because the elevation changes quickly
in a small area. Contour lines that seem to touch indicate a very steep slope,
like a cliff. When contour lines are spaced far apart the slope is gentle. So
contour lines help us see the three-dimensional shape of the land.
Look at the topographic map of Stowe, Vermont (Figure
above). There is a steep hill rising just to the right of the city of Stowe.
You can tell this because the contour lines there are closely spaced. The
contour lines also show that the hill has a sharp rise of about 200 feet. Then
the slope becomes less steep toward the right.
2. Concentric circles indicate a hill. Figure below shows
another side of the topographic map of Stowe, Vermont. When contour lines form
closed loops, there is a hill. The smallest loops are the higher elevations on
the hill. The larger loops encircling the smaller loops are downhill. If you
look at the map, you can see Cady Hill in the lower left and another, smaller
hill in the upper right.
concentric circles indicate a depression. The hatch marks are short,
perpendicular lines inside the circle. The innermost hatched circle represents
the deepest part of the depression. The outer hatched circles represent higher
elevations (Figure below). Volcanoes
craters would be shown this way on a topographical map.
portions of contour lines indicate stream valleys. The “V“ shape of the contour
lines point uphill. There is a V shape because the stream channel passes
through the point of the V. The open end of the V represents the downstream
portion. A blue line indicates that there is water running through the valley.
If there is not a blue line the V pattern indicates which way water flows. In
Figure below, you can see examples of V-shaped markings. Try to find the direction
a stream flows.
The top of this drawing is a topographical map showing the
are illustrated at the bottom.
On this map, the vertical distance between each contour line
is 10 feet.
1. Which hill is
higher, hill A or hill B?
2. What do contour
lines that are close together mean? _____________

Unique Selling Proposition Business Finance Assignment Help
Journal 2: Marketing Plan Part C: Unique Selling Proposition
Due Week 6 and worth 100 points
You will now complete your secondary market research and consider what distinguishes your company from your competitors, their products, and / or the price of their products and services.
The key word in Unique Selling Proposition (USP) is “unique.” There are very few products or services that are truly one of a kind. In order to target the demographic for your company, you need to pinpoint what makes your business standout among the competitors (e.g., Charles Revson, founder of Revlon, always used to say he sold hope, not makeup. Neiman Marcus sells luxury and customer service. Wal-Mart sells bargains. Amazon is earth’s biggest bookstore.)
Use the Internet to research two (2) of your favorite companies and two (2) companies that are similar to your company. Identify the USPs of these companies, and consider what the USPs mean to you. Next, prepare to create a USP for your company.
Tips on creating a USP for your company:
- Put yourself in your customers’ shoes. Consider what your customers really want. Consider what could make them your repeat customers and instead of your competition‘s.
- Research what motivates your customers’ behaviors and buying decisions. You need to know what drives and motivates customers.
- Uncover the real reasons why customers buy your product instead of a competitor’s. As owner of a start up, ask people why they buy your future competitors’ product. This will help you uncover why they might buy yours. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What does our product or service do better than anyone else?
- How is our business model different from that of our competition? How could our product or service be different?
- What market category or niche is not being served by our industry?
Write a four to six (4-6) paragraph journal entry in which you:
- Identify the target market and your secondary market for your company. Note: Be as specific as possible (e.g., women 30-45, with a high school education and some college; people working full time and living in the Midwest, etc.).
- Describe your unique selling proposition (USP). Explain the key factors that make your company different than competitors within your industry. Describe the primary way in which the USP for your company targets the two (2) markets you identified in Question 1.
Example of a USP:
- My product is t-shirts and coffee mugs with fun and empowering logos for women.
- My target market is women ages 35-55, college educated, working full time. My secondary market trends a little younger at 25-35, women passionate about their professional life and their personal pursuits.
- My USP is “Be Authentic, no Apologies.”
- My reasoning is I want women to buy my sassy slogans, because they want to show their authentic voice on a shirt or mug.

OVERVIEW: Plaintiff brewing company sought a temporary
restraining order under the Federal Trademark Dilution Act, 15 U.S.C.S. §
1125(c), to prevent defendant, a sportswear manufacturer, from distributing
T-shirts that allegedly harmed plaintiff’s famous mark. The court recognized,
and defendant apparently conceded, that plaintiff’s mark was unquestionably
famous. The court also concluded that plaintiff raised serious questions about
the harmful effect of defendant’s T-shirts on plaintiff’s mark, and the court
determined that the balance of hardships tipped in plaintiff’s favor. The court
therefore, pending the preliminary injunction hearing, enjoined defendants from
distributing their T-shirts that purportedly diluted plaintiff’s mark, and also
ordered defendants to recall T-shirts or related products that had already been
OUTCOME: Temporary restraining order granted because
plaintiff’s mark was found to be unquestionably famous, plaintiff raised
serious issues regarding dilution of its mark by defendant’s T-shirts, and
balance of hardships tipped in plaintiff’s favor.

JUDGES: THELTON E. HENDERSON, CHIEF JUDGE, UNITED STATES
OPINION BY: THELTON E. HENDERSON
This matter came on for hearing on August 26, 1996, on
plaintiff’s application for a Temporary Restraining Order (“TRO”).
Plaintiff Anheuser-Busch, Inc., asks the Court to (1) enjoin Defendant Andy’s
Sportswear, Inc. (“Andy’s”) from manufacturing and distributing its
“Buttwiser” t-shirts and (2) order Andy’s to recall those t-shirts
currently being offered for sale. Having carefully considered the oral and
written arguments of the parties, and the record in this case, the Court hereby
GRANTS plaintiff’s request, for the reasons discussed below.
Plaintiff bases its motion on several federal and state
trademark causes of action. For the purposes of the instant TRO, however, the
Court only addresses plaintiff’s claim under the recently enacted Federal
Trademark Dilution [*2] Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1125(c). [HN1] Under the Act, an
injunction may issue if (1) the mark is famous; and (2) the defendant’s use
“causes dilution of the distinctive quality of the mark.” Id. Based
on the record and authorities currently before the it, the Court concludes that
plaintiff is entitled to a TRO under this test.
The Court finds that Plaintiff’s marks are unquestionably
famous, as defendant appears to concede. In addition, the Court finds that
plaintiff has, at the very least, raised serious questions with respect to
whether defendant’s t-shirts will “dilute” these marks, as that term
is defined under 15 U.S.C. § 1127. Plaintiff has also established that the
balance of hardships tips sharply in its favor. Accordingly, under, EEOC v.
Recruit U.S.A., Inc., 939 F.2d 746, 752 (9th Cir. 1991), plaintiff is entitled
to injunctive relief.
Pending the hearing on the preliminary injunction, Andy’s,
its successors, officers, agents, employees, and anyone acting in concert with
them or at their behest, are enjoined from manufacturing, screening,
distributing, marketing, displaying, or selling the “Buttwiser”
t-shirts, or any other t-shirts or goods bearing any unauthorized designs, [*3] slogans, labels, designations, logos,
artwork, or putative trademarks similar to Anheuser-Busch’s state and federal
registered trademarks, or the Budweiser(R) trade dress.
The Court further orders that, pending the preliminary
injunction hearing, the above designated parties shall recall and/or remove
from all locations to which they sold or distributed any and all Buttwiser
t-shirts and any other t-shirts or other goods bearing any unauthorized
designs, slogans, labels, designations, logos, artwork, or putative trademarks
similar to Anheuser-Busch’s state and federal registered trademarks, or the
Budweiser(R) trade dress, and to maintain such goods and materials until
further order from the Court.
The above TRO is effective on Plaintiff’s filing an
undertaking in the sum of $ 15,000. The Court will hold a hearing on the
preliminary injunction on Tuesday, September 10, at 3:00 p.m. Defendant’s
opposition shall be filed and served no later than September 3. Plaintiff’s
reply shall be filed and served no later than September 6.
IT IS SO ORDERED. DATED 8/28/96, THELTON E. HENDERSON, CHIEF
JUDGE, UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT
