Directions

You have been selected to develop a GUI application called a
“Configurator”.  The application allows
the user to complete the configuration of a computer system and produce a sales
price for the system based on the configuration selected.  The application must meet the minimum
operating requirements and specifications as provided below:

Operation

  1. The user configures
the components of a computer system by selecting items from combo boxes,
    radio buttons, and check boxes.
  2. When the user clicks
the Calculate button, the application calculates the prices of the system
by adding the cost of each selected component to the base price of the
    system.
  3. An option is provided
to the user to clear all entries and begin over.
  4. As the systems are
configured on the “fly”, the program should update the costs automatically
to show the user the  impact of
adding or changing the basic system (running totals)
  5. When the user presses
the “order” button, the program should display the current configuration
in a dialog box of your choice.  The
dialog box should show the configuration the user is about to order with
pricing and totals.  The user must
confirm the configuration before the order is processed.  When the user confirms the order, the
order is processed and the order displayed as processed.
  6. When the user closes
the frame or presses the Exit button, the application exits.

Specifications

  1. You are free to use
whatever layouts and panels you need to design the application.  You can also create any classes you
think might be helpful to solve and develop this application. In short,
you’re the developer and may use all resources available to you.  The only requirement is: you must use
    the Java programming language.

Domestic vs International Considerations, business and finance homework help Business Finance Assignment Help

You were recently hired as the VP of Logistics for the ABC Manufacturing Company. This is a new position. During the lengthy interview process, the CEO shared her strategic plans for worldwide growth in the company’s consumer sales. Previously, sales had been confined to domestic sales only. As a result of little staff logistics expertise, the company had kept the traditional logistics model of shipping all finished products from its warehouse and factory location on the East Coast of the United States, even though there was a growing market on the West Coast that competition was serving from a West Coast warehouse. However, the CEO pointed out that despite its national popularity from a feature and quality perspective, it seemed to penetrate poorly on the West Coast because of her need to charge higher prices as the result of higher shipping costs.

The marketing manager tried to mitigate this competitive disadvantage by freight equalization so that end customers would pay the same amount of shipping costs as West Coast competition charged, regardless of where they were located. This met with some insignificant success because timeliness of delivery was another important issue.

Therefore, the CEO had asked you, as your first assignment, to write a white paper to address the following specific points. She remembered that you had quite a bit of experience addressing some or all of these issues during your career. As a stickler for formatting, she has specifically asked you to use the following Roman numeral sections and headings in the paper:

Section I: Introduction (200 words)

  1. In general, what are the qualitative pros and cons for domestic sales of having multiple distribution centers and shipping locations in the United States?

Section II: Decision-Making Criteria (300 words)

The CEO is considering three options with the same total construction and operating costs:

  • expanding the warehouse next to the East Coast manufacturing plant;
  • building a West Coast distribution center; or
  • building a combination manufacturing and warehouse location on the West coast

Identify 5 criteria that must be considered when locating a new or expanded shipping warehouse domestically, given this general information:

  1. The products are primarily medium- and large-size insulated coolers, like you might use for a picnic or trip to the beach. Transportation firms charge by space, or cubic feet, rather than weight, which is the more normal method.
  2. The coolers are made of 3 components, which are all produced by suppliers solely on the East Coast; the raw materials to make this product are bulky, and inbound shipping from the East Coast suppliers currently represents 20% of total raw material costs.
  3. The market is very competitive with generally stable or decreasing marketplace prices.
  4. In states that are warm year-round, sales are pretty steady; in states that have seasons, 90% of sales occur in the May–August period.
  5. Right now, to keep West Coast customers happy, the CEO says that they only charge those customers the local freight cost of shipping, which is $200 for anything up to half a truckload.

Section III: Metrics to Assess Success (250 words)

  1. Describe 3 metrics that you would use to assess the success of any logistics plan involving you as a manufacturer and a mass merchandiser. Provide support for your selections.

Section IV: Qualitative Factors (200 words)

Identify 3 subjective, qualitative factors to consider in the recommendation.

Section V: Quantitative Factors (Excel Spreadsheet)

Provide a detailed recommendation as to whether you should open a West Coast distribution center, add on to the existing East Coast factory and warehouse, or build a combination West Coast manufacturing location and warehouse?

Use this template (Also attached) to show your numeric calculations. Without calculations shown for how you reached your conclusion, section V will earn 0 points. REMEMBER: Decisions like this are based on a comparison of option A versus current methods, or option B versus current methods.Your response must be quantitatively based using the data in section II, the additional data below, and from external resources as needed.

  1. The products are primarily medium- and large-size insulated coolers, like you might use for a picnic or trip to the beach. Each cooler occupies 2 cubic feet of trailer truck space; trailers are 10 x 10 x 40’ long and cost $1,000 to ship from the East Coast to the West Coast.
  2. The coolers are made of 3 components: 1 lb of raw material A, 1/4 lb of raw material B, and 1 gallon of material C, weighing 10 lbs. Based on this information, the added freight cost to get raw materials to a West Coast manufacturing location would be $0.20, $0.20, and $0.60 per finished-good unit, respectively.
  3. The mass merchandiser location on the West Coast will be purchasing 10,000 units per week, but in lots of only 1,000 at a time because of their retail store space constraints.
  4. The market is very competitive, with generally stable or decreasing marketplace prices.
  5. In states that are warm year-round, sales are pretty steady In states that have seasons, 90% of sales occur in the May–August period.
  6. The raw materials to make this product are bulky, and inbound shipping from the suppliers to the manufacturing plant represents 20% of total raw material costs. These raw materials are supplied in the United States from the East Coast; they are not available elsewhere.
  7. In the past, to keep West Coast customers happy, the CEO agreed to freight equalize customer shipping charges to be competitive with West Coast competition. She says that they only charge those customers the local freight cost of shipping, which is $200 per delivery for anything up to half-truckload quantities.

Section VI: Conclusion (200 words)

What are the most important points that you want the CEO to understand about this entire decision-making process?

Use in text Citations and document all references

Deliverable: 900-1,100 words plus Excel spreadsheet. Must provide Word document and Excel File with calculations

Geometry project analyze an aquarium for size and cost of maintenance, algebra homework help Mathematics Assignment Help

Goal

To analyze an aquarium for size and cost of maintenance.

Role

You are the business manager of the San Diego Zoo. Part of your job is to analyze and write a report on all large financial purchases, before they are made.

Audience

Your bosses at the Zoo are requiring you to present a thorough report on the specifics of this large aquarium, before they decide to make the purchase.

Situation

You are to write a report to be presented to the owners of the zoo. They have requested that the following information be included in your report, and that you explain and show your work on how you arrived at your answers.

1. The proposed aquarium is a rectangular prism that is 30 ft long, 10 ft wide, and 20 ft high. The aquarium first needs to be painted with a protective paint. It has an open top, and the bottom will already be on the ground, but the rest of the aquarium, both on the inside and out, needs a coat of this paint. How many square feet of the aquarium need to be painted?

2. The protective paint is bought in cans that cover 200 sq ft costing $154.99 per can. What is the cost of purchasing the protective paint for this aquarium?

3. The Zoo usually fills the aquarium ¾ full with water. What volume of water will be in the aquarium once it is ¾ full?

4. When you submerge a rock in the aquarium (the rock is the same size of the fish you plan to house in the aquarium), the water level rises ¼ inch. Find the volume of that rock (really a fish).

5. How many fish of the same size as the rock discussed above can you place in the aquarium before any water spills out?

6. How many gallons of water could you fill the aquarium with if it were filled to capacity? (1 cubic ft is equal to 7.48 gallons)

Product, Performance and Purpose

Answer each question correctly. Show your work for each question. Explain in complete sentences the process you used to calculate your answers. If you used formulas, be sure to state what formula was used. Write your answer in the form of a report to your bosses. Make sure your report has a professional flow to it.

Creative Writing, writing homework help Writing Assignment Help

I am not a great writer, but here are the instructions :

please read below based on my experience and go by that make sure it is two pages.

You will be reflecting on your experience with the group project and its members, which can entail its makeupcommunication, action, and outcomes – you can discuss any one, some or all of the following: the diversity of the group, media utilized to communicate, leadership taken, conflicts encountered and overcome, roles assumed, norms and rules developed, problems solved and decisions made.

How would you characterize the entire experience?  Good, bad, fun, horrible…?  Productive, non-productive? What have you learned that you will carry over into the next small group experience?

so my overall experience was pretty good, in the beginning the group was not productive, we weren’t able to get work done or plan what should be done for the project becuase some of my group members never showed up to group meetings, the communication in the group was not good most of my group members did not respond to text messages. we lost one group member, because she decided that she did not want to be apart of the group, she was actually the one who was holding up the group project because everyone was assigned a piece that they had to complete fir the group and everyone completed their part except or her, and the reason why she did not do her piece was because she as busy with work and her other class. but this group project was for a grade so it had to get done regardless. Teresa was the group leader she was in charge of sending texts messages to us when ever we had to meet but we stopped having group meetings and we all decided that we would complete our part by may 2nd so that we could have sometime left to find media and pictures, some of my group members were able to complete their piece by that deadline and the members completed their piece the following week. I was in charge of uploading everyones piece, media and pictures on the wikispace.  overall this group experience was good even though the communication was bad in the beginning. Everyone did their part that they were assigned to do.

  4. In your poster session presentation, you will need to detail the classification of the group of creatures you are detailing. Include the time of first occurrence, fossil record (if any), economic and societal impact of the group, and its evolutionary importance (for example, the green algae are not terribly important.Save as a stem group for the evolution of plants).

Example sites:

Tree of Life Web  Maintained by scientists and collaborators, this site organizes over 5000 web pages about the classification and relationships of the domains and other taxonomic groups.

Animal Diversity Web  This site compiles many links to aid your research.

Biodiversity Explorer  Provides a look at how the taxonomic groups are classified and basic characteristics.

Discover Life  Links and information for Systematics.

Searching Websites:

Conduct a keyword search to find websites. To begin a keyword search, start by searching broad terms such as biodiversity, animal systematics, animal diversity systematics, or tree of life. The resulting list of websites can give you a lot of information, but how do you know if it is reliable? There are a few basic guidelines that can help you when you open a website and try to determine its reliability.

Always consider a site’s:

  • Objectivity: Excessive expressions of emotion, opinions, and stereotyping are tip-offs that the information on a site may be biased.
  • Ownership and contributors: Go to the Home or About page of the website and find out who sponsors and writes for the site. Look for contributors who have reliable credentials, such as “Harvey Jones, Professor, University of Wisconsin—Madison.”
  • Writing style and mechanics: Check the grammar, spelling, and writing style on the site. Errors and awkwardness are signs of a nonprofessional website.
  • Currency: Look for publication or copyright dates associated with the site; the more current the better.
  • Links: What links does the site contain? A reliable website will offer links to other reliable websites, not to “junk” sites.

Keyword Search: biodiversity, animal systematics, animal diversity systematics, tree of life

History of Life Lab, biology homework help Science Assignment Help

In this lab, you are required to create a project. A few suggestions are listed below, but make sure that you are within the realm of the project. Be sure to include all aspects as explained in the lab.

  • Poster
  • Slideshow presentation
  • Webpage
  • Recorded speech

Introduction:

We divide fossils into body fossils and trace fossils (also known as ichnofossils). A body fossil is a part of, or in some cases the entire, body of a creature. In rare cases, the organic material of the creature remains in the fossil, although more often we get casts and molds that reveal the external and internal structure of the organism. Trace fossils do not reveal much information about the anatomy of the creatures that made them, but instead offer glimpses of the activity and physiology of the creature.

There are several types of body fossils, and the mode of preservation of the organism’s original material is what differentiates them. Compressions form when the overlying sediment “compresses” the organism into a flat layer, which results in some of the original organic material of the creature being preserved, often as thin carbonaceous films. However, many times the organic material is further decayed, leaving only a “part and counterpart” detailing of the creature’s external form. Casts and molds are a type of preservation where the original material decays, leaving a mold in the surrounding rock that can be filled with other sediment forming a cast. Casts can be external or internal; the latter is known as steinkerns. Petrification occurs when organic matter is replaced with silica and literally turns to stone. Petrified wood also forms by this process.

Objectives:

  1. Learn about the different types of fossils.
  2. Select and study a group of organisms in depth.
  3. Prepare a virtual poster session to be shared with your classmates detailing the biology and evolution of the group of fossils you have chosen. An alternate to this activity is to prepare a poster of a particular period or epoch of geologic time.

Time Requirements:

This lab should take 4-5 hours to complete.

Recording Your Observations:

Click here to download the report for this lab where you’ll record your hypotheses, observations, and conclusions.

Procedures:

  1. Visit Fossils: Window to the Past [http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/paleo/fossils/] and read about the types of fossils and fossil preservation.
  2. Visit a number of websites (a few starters are listed below) that deal with the topic of the history of life on earth. Gather information and images to allow you to prepare a virtual poster session. Be sure to cite your sources!

In your poster session you will need to detail the classification of the group of creatures whose fossil history you are presenting. Include the time of first occurrence, time of maximum diversity, and whether or not the group is extinct or extant.

Example sites:

Tour of Geological Time [http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/help/timeform.php]

Searching Websites:

Conduct a keyword search to find websites. To begin a keyword search, start by searching broad terms such as geologic time, fossil history, or fossil record.

Keyword Search: geologic time, fossil history, fossil record
