Introduction

During the times of post war, especially the first and Second World War, and again after the Vietnam War, immigration was promoted and welcomed; it created prosperity and a multi cultural country; ensuring growth and prosperity. Immigration allowed population growth and diversification of skills, intellectual property and an immediate surge in the birth rates, something the ravages of war depleted.

Body

There is no doubt that the US migrant population growth is at its highest level in over 100 years of history. During 1900 to 1910 the US saw over 850,000 immigrants entered the country per year.The US census of 2000 shows that over 1.2 million immigrants are entering the country legally and illegally each year. The population grew by 32.7 million since 1990; the largest growth in US recorded history. Stating this fact based on the Center for Immigration Studies we can conclude that immigration impacted the US population growth by 43%. In addition, this immigration population gave birth to an additional 6.9 million children during the 1990’s concluding that the main factors for the US growth is immigration not national growth in our own population.

Conclusion:

Americans have always been tolerant to immigration up until 9/11 and illegal immigration debates. There is even a romantic aspect to immigration and economic prosperity, as summed up on the Statue of Liberty, erected in 1886 proclaiming at her base “give us you’re tired, you’re poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” At that time, the USA went through a wave of immigration and today we are in the midst of a larger wave outdoing our last 100 years of history.

Purpose: By now, you should have a good understanding of the three specializations within the Digital Media and Web Technology (DMWT) major: digital design, motion graphics, and web technology. We have covered many fundamental concepts applicable within all three specializations. Based on what you have already learned, you will now perform research to identify how the general theories, practices, and technologies apply to one of the specializations.

Course Outcomes Met By This Assignment:

• Examine the different processes, career paths, and technologies in the digital media industry.

Digital Media and Web Technology Program Specializations

Are you interested in designing and building Web sites and Web applications?

The Web Technology specialization can help you achieve this goal. You will first learn techniques for designing and developing Web-front-ends with an eye towards usability and accessibility. Then, using multimedia scripting and programming, you will learn how you can add additional functionality and database connectivity.

Are you interested in creating computer graphics and publishing electronic media?

The Digital Design specialization is the best option for you. You will first learn techniques of electronic publishing. Then, using industry standard software, you will take your abilities even further as you learn image editing, illustration, and 3D modeling. You will use industry standard software throughout the specialization.

Are you interested in video editing, special effects, and creating motion graphics?

The Motion Graphics specialization is right up your alley. You will first learn techniques for integrating images, sound, video, and animation to create interactive products.
