Assume you are the HR Director for an MNE that has numerous international assignments. A
new, extremely important assignment has arisen from the business side of this MNE in Santiago,
Chile. You are expected to send two of your best employees from a business unit in Poland, with
their families, to manage this assignment for three years. Neither of these employees has
worked in Chile before. You want to ensure that these employees have a smooth transition to
the new international workplace environment and reduce the likelihood that they will become
failed expatriates.

1. Discuss the key challenges that you need to address before sending these expatriates for the
assignment in Santiago.

2. Prepare a formal briefing for these expatriates on how to best manage their assignment in
what is, to them, a different environment. Include justification for your recommendations.

Choose one question from the four listed below and answer it for your initial post.

1. Question 1: Explain the ethical considerations that are involved when studying the placebo effect, and discuss ways to address them.
2. Question 2: Explain how you might employ the placebo response in your treatments.
3. Question 3: Discuss why the terms placebo and placebo response are out of date and the implications for future research into any intervention.
4. Question 4: Discuss what level of information you would need in order to make a recommendation for any type of therapy. Be specific with examples, and remember to cite at least one text.
