 From the e-Activity, compare and contrast the fundamental differences in the
manner in which the general populace may interpret court decisions involving
social policy. Provide a rationale for your response.

Take a position on whether or not you believe the Supreme Court is
responsive to public opinion. Examine the extent to which public opinion should

In the activity, it says judges have the right to determine involvement in
social policy. like Ashley said i to think judges should follow certain
guidelines when they are involved in the policy and only hear certain ones.

I do not think that the Supreme Court should respond to public opinion.
Judges are not elected by the public why should they care. But there are some
reasons where they might be persuaded otherwise. Public opinion could influence
which judge is nominated and elected. The second reason may be that judges may
care about the public opinion for many reasons and can be
labeled under “institutional legitimacy”  and the third being people may change
their opinions in response to information about what others think. The impact of
public opinion is greatest among moderate judges who are likely to hold critical
swing positions on the Court.

The general role of the U.S Court system in influencing society, is making
sure that the laws are being followed to the beginning to the end, and personal
opinions are not being considered from the bench or administration, and concrete
evidence is being used when the decision-making is being made. I believe that
there are some influences from the media such as the “news” in what they are
saying may play a small part, especially if the community or neighborhood where
the crime happened floods the media and courts with some type of evidence or
witnesses it can help with court decision.
