Grand Canyon University Nurse Leaders Discussion Writing Assignment Help

Response one :Nurse leaders play a valuable role in advocating for their fellow nurses and the profession as a whole. While every nurse should advocate for a safe and healthy work environment, a nurse leader can provide additional support and advocacy (Thomas, 2018). It is important for a leader to seek feedback and listen to their needs. A leader should be highly approachable, available, and ideally, have an in-depth understanding of the challenges each nurse faces. Nurse leaders serve as advocates for their team members by engaging in active listening, addressing concerns, seeking feedback, empowering them to be an integral part of decision-making.

While most nurses readily are accustomed to advocate for their patients, it is important for nurses to also advocate for each other. A nurse leader can model this behavior and set expectations for others to do the same. Nurses supporting and advocating for each other is conducive to the promotion of healthier and safer work environments and improved patient outcomes (Kerley & Toney-Butler, 2019). This is especially true for newer or inexperienced nurses. It is important for them to feel comfortable with seeking assistance and asking question from experienced nurses. Nurses who are inexperienced may feel threatened and insecure and may be too intimidated to seek assistance when they need it. This can interfere with patient safety and quality care. Nurses who are satisfied and feel supported are better equipped, physically, environmentally and mentally to provide enhanced patient care (Kerley & Toney-Butler, 2019).

Thomas, J. S. (2018). Organizational culture and values. In (Ed.), Nursing leadership & management. [Academic Web Services]. Retrieved from https://lc.gcumedia.com/nrs451vn/nursing-leadershi…

Response two: Nursing leaders are individuals who continue to have the best interest in mind for their nurses. They ensure nurses are properly trained, understand their scope of practice and continue ongoing training. Good leaders protect their nurses by advocating for them when they are asked to do something out of their scope of practice or instances where they are short staffed. In our reading material Thomas discusses that the right task must be given to the right person that has the appropriate training and knowledge (2019). I have experienced and witnessed times where upper management who are not clinical, ask LPN’s to perform tasks that are only allowed to be done by an RN. I have also seen new RN’s be asked to do things they were not properly trained to do. The ADON at my facility serves as a strong advocate for the employees because she continues to do inservices and ensures all new staff are properly trained on what they may need to know.

Not having a strong nursing leader who advocates for the employees can compromise patient care. If a nurse is asked to perform a task he or she hasn’t been properly trained on, it can result in an unsafe situation for the patient. Even if the nurse feels intimidated he or she should speak up and say they are not comfortable performing the task and ask to be trained. The nursing leader can than advocate for the nurse and set up an inservice. Physicians and other nurses forget not everyone knows everything and that we all need to learn. If and when delegation is occurring, it is important to ensure the task is for the right person, with the right circumstance, with the right directions and under the right supervision (Thomas, 2019). If this does not occur a patient can be harmed and can cause unnecessary stress for the nurse.

Thomas, J., (2019). Organizational culture and values. Nursing Leadership & Management: Leading and Serving.Retrieved from https://lc.gcumedia.com/nrs451vn/nursing-leadership-and-management-leading-and-serving/v1.1/#/chapter/4

Response three: Nurse leaders serve as an advocate for employees by assisting in setting best routines to help staff. Nurse leader can teach and guide staff to make positive decisions in patient care which helps to make employee feel valued. Shared values among employees and their employers support a positive working culture that contributes to successful outcomes and outperforms competitors (Grand Canyon, 2018). Nurse leader is an advocate for nursing staff by through teaching, mentoring and peer review. The nurse leader needs to have the ability to support interest or the skill to communicate problem solve, influence and collaborate. When support is given to staff allows for better outcome for patient care. Nurses are increasingly positioned to advocate more effectively than ever before not only for patients, but also for themselves and the nursing profession (OJIN, 2012). For example, Nurse Leader would advocate for LPN on unit being asked to do IV antibiotic. Some LPN already has experience monitoring or has been to IV infusion class. Most facilities want LPN IV certified before employment or will send them before they begin. LPN should know scope of practice and not attempt any procedure without training. This is when a nurse leader can advocate for nurse.

SOURCES

Theme 1:

Who is the manager and what is his or her job in an organization? The manager’s role has traditionally revolved around setting short-term goals for the organization to execute, and performing tasks that include processes, procedures, and production within the organization’s purpose or vision. The modern role of the manager has evolved to include serving as a facilitator to accomplishing tasks.

Theme 2:

The study of organizational theory and management has evolved with the changing business landscape. To appreciate the place management theory has in business today, it is important to learn about how the business landscape has evolved and how this evolution has affected the business organization.

STUDENT POST 1
“- Discuss one classical theory and one more contemporary theory to management. Provide examples to illustrate how each theory has been or is depicted in the workplace.

One classical theory is the scientific management theory. This theory included the ideas of employee training and standardized best practices to improve productivity ( Scientific Management, para. 3). One example, is the work done by Frank and Lillian Gilbreth who filmed and analyzed motions to determine the best way to complete a task. A contemporary theory is information management. Information is not to any theory in management, however the large volume of information available allows business and organizations to study it to help make decisions.

– Using the two identified theories, discuss how the role of the manager has changed.

The role of the manager with regard to the scientific management used information from the the work like that of Frank and Lillian Gilbreth to improve productivity. This allowed for the business to produce more, but there was little or no effort on the consumer willing to buy. With information management, managers can analyze information from consumers, employees, and competitors which help improving or creating new product.

– It is assumed that the classical theories of management are dated and not relevant in today’s business environment. Identify a classical theory that you consider to still be relevant in business today and explain why;

Bureaucratic management is very much alive in the United States government. Within the United States you have 50 different states governing different types of ways. Around the world you have hundreds of different countries which are governing in different types of ways. One of the main reason bureaucratic management is relevant in government is because the characteristics of bureaucracy like formal rules and regulations and formal selection processes are needed balance out all those differences.

Scientific Management is a theory of management that analyzes workflow. Explain how scientific management changed the way we manage manufacturing.

Scientific management change the way we manage manufacturing in two main ways. First, with trained, specialized workers performing individual tasks. Second, not all tasks were reliable on each other. This meant that those tasks which did not rely on each other would be started at the same time. This system allowed for manufactures to produce more in less time.

Explain why the study of organizational theory is an important tool for managers in the 21st-century business organization. Give examples.

The organizational theory allows managers to understand how to function best. Businesses like Amazon and Google are massive organizations. Organizational theory allow managers to understand the dynamics across such a large business and make the best decisions. “

STUDENT POST 2

1.Discuss one classical theory and one contemporary theory to management. Give examples to illustrate how each theory has been or is depicted in the workplace.

Bureaucratic management is a classical theory associated with theorists Max Weber and Henri Fayol. This management style proposes fighting cases of favoritism and incompetence in the workplace by operation in a rational manner (Lumen Learning, Bureaucratic Management, n.d.). Some countries like Germany had a tradition of giving the position of authority based on social status, family relations and connections rather than by experience, ability, and merit (Lumen Learning, Bureaucratic Management, n.d.). The problem with this is that resources were used only for the benefit of the owner rather than meeting organizational goals. Fayol believed that bureaucratic management would increase customer satisfaction and motivation. This theory is highly depicted in the workplace for instance; most organizations today hire based on qualifications and using the same skills and level of experience there is a division of labor. Accountants in schools, for example, are tasked with roles associated with themanagement of finances. Each and every day, they are expected to do the same job. In as much as there is increased productivity due to reduced cases of errors, this kind of bureaucracy is associated with boredom and inflexibility. An example of contemporary theory of management is the humanistic management, a theory contributed by Elton Mayo and Mary Follett, “The Mother of Modern Management”. It points out the importance of meeting the social needs of individual workers so as to increase productivity. Mayo concluded in his research that teams with negative behaviors and weak social bonds performed worse than groups with strong interpersonal relationships. Mary Follett insisted that “social cooperation is better than the individual competition” (Lumen Learning, Humanistic Management, n.d.). This approach also adopts policies that mutually benefit the needs of workers such as improved self-image and self-actualization as well as the needs of the organization. This management approach is illustrated by humanizing businesses. Nowadays, it is considered ethical to provide working conditions aligning with human being dignity and beliefs. For example, Muslim employees are allocated special prayer rooms and time to fulfill their religious beliefs.

2. Using the two identified theories, discuss how the role of the manager has changed.

Some of the duties according to the bureaucratic management are as follows: managers are expected to create a plan of action to cater for now and the future. In this case, the activities won’t stop in case of managerial emergencies. Managers are also tasked with the duty of providing and organizing available resources towards achieving goals. Managers also direct workers through communication. Control of activities is also part of the roles of the management in organizations (Lumen Learning, Primary Functions of Management, n.d.). In relation to the humanistic management, managers are now tasked with looking beyond tangible benefits and also focusing on intangible benefits such as personal reputation and worker relationships. The management authority has also laid out programs to improve understanding of the needs of employees so as to enhance productivity (Lumen Learning, Primary Functions of Management n.d.).

3. It is assumed that the classical theories of management are outdated and not relevant in today’s business environment. Identify a classical theory that you consider to still be relevant in business today and explain why.

The bureaucratic theory by Max Weber has many advantages hence making it a classical theory that is still relevant in today’s business environment. Authority hierarchy and division of labor as established by Weber is still active in the present companies (Lumen Learning, Bureaucratic Management, n.d.). Organizations function based on laid down rules that guide employees. Rules and regulations are bound to be followed and failure to comply attracts penalties. Furthermore, bureaucracy is based on strict and accurate record keeping. All activities and also attendance is recorded by those in charge for future reference when the need arises (Lumen Learning, Bureaucratic Management, n.d.). Record keeping also helps prevent re-occurrence of certain issues as well as avoiding misunderstanding among employees. Moreover, bureaucracy delegates roles and responsibilities to every worker. Employees today are assigned to tasks based on their skill levels and experience. Workers are also hired based on qualification and not as per social status.

4. Scientific management is a theory of management that analyses workflow. Explain how scientific management changed the way we manage manufacturing.

Frederick Taylor, “The Father of Scientific Management” devised principles that helped to increase productivity even with the shortage of skilled labor by increasing efficiency of available workers (LumenLearning, Scientific Management, n.d.). Scientific management also changed the concept of work. Before 1990’s skilled personnel worked with the slogan “make it like the last one”. Later, the ideas of Taylor and other scientists introduced the concept that work could be studied and in the course of this, the work process was improved (Lumen Learning, Scientific Management, n.d.). Training became a necessity in the management process and was a way of bringing together managers and workers to work together to meet their goals. Worker skills determined job allocation. Workers were trained to perform their tasks in a specific way so as to increase productivity. Work performance was also measured against standards that were scientifically developed by the management. Today, Taylor’s principles, are still used by with slight adjustments by big companies such as Amazon. Exact procedures to be followed in the accomplishmentof specific tasks are developed and this translates to increased predictability and consistency of products manufactured as errors are significantly reduced.

5.Explain why the study of organizational theory is an important tool for managers in the 21st-century business organization. Give examples.

Through organizational theory studies, organizations can learn how others solve their problems and how they increase their efficiency and productivity. Correct application of organizational theories leads to initiation of windows for expansion and hence more production and more competition which brings about changes in the economic equilibrium (Lumen Learning, Why Study Organizational Theory, n.d.). In the long run, economic potential in society is boosted. For example, through expansion and increased production potential, factory production in the modern era is highly specialized. More efficient methods like Henry Ford’s assembly line are being developed and utilized. In addition, the study of organizational theory also helps identify destructive forms of company practices. This is significant in highlighting precaution measures for the future. Safety is promoted through the study of organizational theories (Lumen Learning, Why Study Organizational Theory, n.d.).

POLS210 American Public Congress federal budget HR 2500 and HR 1044 Paper Writing Assignment Help

Forum post 1:

In my post this week I would like to talk about Congress and the important task they are entrusted with which is the economic budget. In our time we have experienced many government shut downs due to Congress not reaching and agreement on a spending bill. In this years discussion about the national budget, Congress is trying to get a head start on plans for the 2020 budget to avoid any shut down or any delays on current projects that involve spending. The House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means recently announced that they will be getting a head start on talks for next years budget starting on August 22nd. They are starting now so that they can address any issues that will arise in the proposed budget. With the Committee of Ways and Means starting now with discussions, they should be able to iron out any problems that will come from the budget plan and should hopefully avoid another government shut down. Congress’ main job mandated by Article 1 of the constitution is to keep the executive branch from having total control over the US legislation by having control of money and budget spending. With this being their primary job, they should always have a head start on the budget plans for the following years. In my opinion, I believe that Congress has lost its way a little bit and has forgotten what is most important which is how each dollar is split up and used to benefit the US economy. With the US being one of the worlds strongest economies, we should make sure that we set a better example of how we spend our money and how we avoid a crisis like a government shut down. Many countries look at our government and try to mirror it because to them it is working better than theirs. Do any of you know when the budget is
supposed to be passed? Do any of you know when the new fiscal year begins for
the federal government?

Hello Class,

Happy week 3 to everyone, this week I chose to discuss how a bill becomes a law. According to votesmart.org there are six steps in the process of a bill becoming a law. The first is introducing the legislation which can be done by any member of congress although there are differences between the House and the Senate in how this is done. In the House, the piece of legislation is handed to the Clerk of the House to be introduced. While in the Senate, members must be recognized by the presiding officer to introduce the bill during the “morning hour”, and if it is rejected by any senator then the introduction is postponed until the next day. The next step is Committee action which involves many different actions that ultimately result in a full committee vote on the bill, and usually the bill goes to the Rules Committee before the Floor so that the appropriate rules for the procedures of how the bill will be considered by the house may be set. Then the bill will be sent to the Floor where it will be posted to the calendar to hold debates and then it is voted on. If the bill gets passed by the House it is then sent to the Senate to be debated and voted on and visa versa. If the bill fails in either chamber it dies, but if it is passed in both it will then be sent to the President to be signed which then makes it a law. If the President does not sign within 10 days but Congress is still in session then it will still become a law, but if Congress adjourns before the 10 day deadline passes then it does not become a law. The President also has the power to Veto the bill which will also keep it from becoming a law. (votesmart.org, 2019)

The current bill that I chose for this week’s discussion is H.R.2500. – National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020. This bill has passed the introduction phase and is currently in the House being corrected and evaluated. If passed by the House it will then go to the Senate for evaluation and to be voted on. If passed by the Senate then it will be sent to the President for the final say. The President can choose to sign it and turn it into a law, or he can veto and discard it. If he chooses not to sign it within his 10 day deadline and congress is still in session then it will still become a law. (congress.gov, 2019)

Hello everyone,

The current bill I chose to discuss is “H.R. 1044 – Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act of 2019”. The bill was introduced by representative Zoe Lofgren (D) from California on 02/07/2019. After being introduced the bill has currently passed the House of Representatives and has been received by the Senate where it is waiting for judicial review. A summary of the bill explains that this bill would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act, which would raise the per-country limitation on the family-based immigrant visas from 7% to 15%, while also ridding of the employment-based visa cap of 7%.

According to our textbook, the process in which a bill becomes a law in known as classic legislation process. The initial step being the draft then assigned a number where in this case is H.R. 1044. The bill is next sponsored and sent to a committee prior to being sent to the floor of the chamber in which it was presented. The bill once approved by the committee then the bill is then sent to the other chamber for review. This must happen before the bill can go to the floor for a vote. Once a bill has been approved by the assembly or by the senate then the bill then travels to the executive level where the President then signs the bill into law or vetoes the bill.

For this bill it started with being introduced by the house of representatives where it then was referred to the house committee then a subcommittee for Immigration and Citizenship. It was until July 10th where the house debated on the bill and by the end of the day the yeas and nays came to 365-65. Being successful in obtaining the 2/3 votes needed, the bill is currently in the senate where it has bene reviewed twice and referred to a committee on the judiciary.
