Why is an information security program important?

It’s important for both regulatory and ethical reasons. The government may require you as an employee to uphold certain security standards for private information under HIPPA laws. But a more foundation reason would be ethical or even constitutional. In the very constitution, the right of privacy is secured in the fourth amendment, and information security is a modern way of either safeguarding that right or exposing it.

Developing a detailed security policy may be required by a regulator if an organization is found to be non-compliant (Peltier, 2014, p. 9). This agreement is often a complex legal document that stipulates actions that both employees and management must take.

I’d like to discuss one other important factors that relates to a winning security strategy. Achieving the goal of information security requires a commitment from all levels of management. The reason that all levels of management are needed is because you are only as secure as the weakest link in your chain. A vulnerability in one location can be used to access an entire system. A comprehensive progam can insure that there is no single point of failure or weak link.

Why is an information security program important?

An information security program is a program designed to implement security practices that protect an organization’s business processes and assets. An information security program is ever evolving with time. As a result, you can see what security practices work and what can be improved. A good information security program assists with keeping company data secure, accessing risks, and having a disaster recovery plan. The consequences of not having an information security program are loss of business, loss of reputation, and even fines. For example if I know that I am doing business with an organization that has access to charging my card, I may stop doing business with them after a data breach. It is very important to keep consumer information safe as well. “The 2019 Deloitte Future of Cyber Survey, which counts among its respondents 500 C-level executives who oversee cybersecurity at companies with $500 million or more in annual revenue, finds three primary challenges that businesses face in implementing strong cybersecurity measures” (Sanders, 2019) The primary challenges in this survey were inability to prioritize risks among the organization, poor management and alignment on priorities, and lack of enough funding.

The purpose of this observation is to gain insight into participants’ orientations toward public problems by disclosing how they use language to emphasize some meanings and diminish other possible meanings. To accomplish this, you are going to compare how people depict the same problem based on materials generated through preferably face to face interviews. Everyone in your group will be observing the rhetoric on the problem they are studying for your term project.

Divide yourselves so that your group interviews different participants, preferably those who hold different, if not also opposing, perspectives on the problem. Conduct brief interviews with at least three people who are participants. Ask them (1) what sticks out in your mind as the most significant development or event on this topic in the past two or three years? (2) what is the most important issue, in your mind, on this topic? (3) what is the most significant local value that you think is at stake ion this topic? (4) what reason or reasons do those who don’t share your view offer for their position? (5) why do you disagree with them? Your interview observations will provide evidence for analytical claims made in TPR #2.

Term Project Report #2

Owners narrow rhetorical exigencies or problems by framing issues, or what Hauser called the “rhetorical structure of public problems.” When doing so, they necessarily create a symbolic perspective on the alternative positions on the issues and on those who hold them. We want to get at both how issues are narrowed and the alternative symbolic perspectives on these issues in their report. Conduct an analysis of language that discloses (1) How each side depicts what it views as the major issue. (2) how each side depicts its own position on that issue and (3) how each side depicts the other side’s position. Your analysis should therefore disclose how the issues are being symbolically defined and addressed. It should include a discussion of:

• The most important issue or issues in the contending parties ‘public discourses (the problem, cause, remedy, and /or costs and benefits)
• The principal feministic screens that contending parties use to symbolically name or define the issues and screen the meanings of their own positions and opposing positions in response to those issues. Identify tropes and genres (if relevant)
• Identification and division among participants in the discourse about the issues created by these feministic screen
• Dominant discourses that participants drawn upon as rhetorical resource. Also discuss critical discourses used to challenge dominant discourses (if applicable)
