ENG 111 Santa Barbara City College Cathedral by Raymond Carver Discussion Humanities Assignment Help
The discussion for the week is on “Cathedral.” I want to repeat, if I have already said, that the plot of stories is fundamentally not of much interest. Meaning is. Some plot helps give the characters a chance to act and react in a given set of circumstances, but the plot is mostly a tactic. Even Shakespeare reused old stories, the momentous and enduring consequence of his plays due largely to his language, not to his plots.
When we read “Cathedral,” nothing really happens. There is no real drama in the environment; in fact it is so quotidian as to be lethargic, boring. Yet Robert and Bub engage in unexpected ways, and the story itself does not answer all our questions about why that is or how it happened that way. That’s where we come in. We are trying to explain why all the time when we write papers; it is our first and most important duty.
Why, when the narrator (Bub) could easily have said he is too tired and gone to bed, does he agree to get materials and sit on the floor next to Robert drawing blindly? What could possibly motivate such a man to begin this and to continue?

Evidence-based practices allow a social worker to integrate well-researched interventions into the treatment plan of the client based on their needs, culture as well as the due diligence employed by the social worker. The social worker in Levy’s case is excited at the possibility of using new and experimental treatment plans before even meeting the client (Laureate Education, 2013). Unfortunately, she has also not done her research to determine how effective the new and experimental treatment is and whether it can indeed fit her client’s needs.
Jake is a young veteran who is traumatized by the things he saw during the war but also has other stressors in his life including a baby on the way (Laureate Education, 2013). As his social worker, I would I would have him enroll for the Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) behavioral and mental health program, which allows the perspective of the veterans to take center stage at different stages of their lives. QUERI uses the stages of change model whereby it acknowledges goals for the client, breaks them down further, and allows for one to progress from one stage to another. It also acknowledges that various stages have different goals and allows for the practice to grow with the client while still working towards their main goals.
Seeing that the program is more of a long-term process that works well within the development of Jake as an individual, it offers steady support to Jake. This is important as using research, they can use pointers and guiders as to how to transition to a different phase of his life and streamline it to meet his needs something that group sessions may not provide (Freire, K. E., et al 2015).
The biggest hindrance to this intervention would be the time taken as it looks at being in transitional phases of the client. There is no telling how fast or slow transitions in our lives take place and therefore it may be quite expensive in terms of cost to see Jake through all his transitions. To mitigate this, McCance-Katz (2018) suggests that there would need to be early on prepared and equipped for the most common transitions as well as empowered to identify his triggers and how to best help himself when he notices the triggers.

Post an evaluation of the evidence-based practice that you selected for Jake.
The evidence-based practice I have chosen is the use of Yoga, to support mindful recovery for Veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress syndrome. Yoga is used to target the brain function of PTSD symptoms over eight weeks or more depending on the individual (SAMHSA, 2018). According to the (Yoga Foundation, n.d.) 40 beneficiaries completed a print survey and 15 were interviewed by members of The Yoga Foundation Team and agreed that the survey identified that class attendance was positively correlated with participants beliefs in their ability to manage stress, anxiety, relax throughout the day use less alcohol.
Describe the practice and the evidence supporting it. Explain why you think this intervention is appropriate for Jake.
According to (SAMHSA, 2018) yoga is a form of exercise that allows you to reconnect with your body and replace negative emotions and physical sensations of being in combat with more positive physical experiences. Yoga helps you to meditate and move at the same time and allowing your body to release tension. Dr. Moser spoke of how Yoga has helped one of his client’s cognitive test scores used each week to document changes in the veteran brain function over the course of the study the veteran symptoms dropped from 15 to 4 over the course of the study (SAMHSA, 2018).
Then provide an explanation for the supervisor regarding issues related to implementation.
According to the (Laureate Education, 2013c) the supervisor in the video explained to the social worker that she needed to establish a rapport with her client before assigning him to an evidence-based practice intervention because it could be something his culture will not allow him to do. I was born to assimilate into Christendom, which frowned upon Yoga, but as a critical thinker I know that Yoga is a good form of prayer and relaxation.
Identify two factors that you believe are necessary for successful implementation of the evidence-based practice and explain why.
The first factors that is crucial for implementing an evidence-based model would be an evaluation of factors that has contributed to the veteran PTSD ((Laureate Education, 2013c).
The second factor I would consider is to complete a mental health exam and become familiar with the veteran culture, age, race, and religion. The first factor that would hinder treatment would be not taking into consideration of what is best for the veteran. According to (SAMHSA, 2018) the second hindrance would be not articulate EBP principles and goals.

Walden University Cognitive Behavior Therapy Suicide Prevention Essay Health Medical Assignment Help
Many social workers attempt to implement an evidence-based practice that seems to be strongly supported by research, only to become frustrated or confused when their efforts do not yield the same positive results as the research. This discrepancy can occur because they failed to recognize the differences between conditions in their practice environment and the conditions of the study. Moreover, they may have failed to consider and adequately plan for issues that arise during implementation.
To prepare for this Assignment, using the resources for evidence-based practices, identify an evidence-based practice that may be applicable to your field of practice. Review two research articles demonstrating the effectiveness of the evidence-based practice. Note any similarities or differences between the conditions in which the evidence-based practice was implemented in the study and the conditions in which you plan to implement it.
By Day 7
Submit a 4- to 5-page paper that analyzes the implementation of the evidence-based practice in your field of practice to determine if you can expect similar results to the research. The paper should include the following:
- A description of the evidence-based practice that you selected including:
- The population for which the evidence-based practice is intended
- The problems for which the evidence-based practice is intended to address
- A summary of the evidence from the research articles that demonstrate the evidence-based practice’s effectiveness
- An explanation of any differences between the conditions of the study and the conditions on your practice. Explain the potential impact these differences could have on successful implementation.
- A description of the steps that would be required to implement the evidence-based practice including:
- Any factors that would support each step and how you would leverage them
- Any factors that would limit or hinder each step and how you would mitigate them
- A conclusion that includes:
- Anticipated results of the implementation in your practice setting
- An explanation of whether they will be similar or different from the research results from the articles
