Assignment 2: RA 2: Research Question and Literature Review

In RA 2, you will finalize the research question on a human services topic that you selected earlier in the course and conduct a literature review to better understand the problem being presented through the research question.

In this assignment, you will get an opportunity to practice many different concepts and skills that you have covered throughout this course.

Tasks:

Using what you have learned about research questions, present your finalized research question on a topic in the field of human services (topic is listed above). Your question should clearly depict the variables being examined and the relationship between these variables.

Gather, analyze, and critique scholarly literature and develop a literature review to address your research question. Use the list of resources that you finalized in M4 Assignment 2 (attached below), in addition to any other articles that you found since Module 4.

Your literature review must be based on:

• Credible research sources
• A minimum of one quantitative and one qualitative research study
• One or two seminal or foundational sources
• At least five peer-reviewed journals and two websites
• Current sources from within the past five years (with the exception of the seminal or foundational source mentioned above)

In addition, your literature review must:

• Synthesize the research and provide a summary of how the selected literature helps support the research question.
• Discuss common themes found in the literature related to the topic.
• Compare and contrast the typical research methodologies found in the literature you reviewed—qualitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods.

The relative significance of nature and nurture on the development of human language has been a historical debate spanning decades of cognitive and developmental psychology. For many years, people have debated and discussed the importance of nature and nurture and which has greater significance in human development. In this assignment, you will focus on the roles of nature and nurture in the process of language development.

Directions:

Write an essay (1,750-2,000 words) in which you discuss how the evolution of computer-generated speech affects the nature-nurture debate in the process of language development. The assignment must be completed in APA format. In your essay address the following:

1. The roles nature and nurture have in the process of language development.
2. Does the successful development of computer-generated speech, which allows computers to communicate with one another, orally, effectively eliminate the nature-nurture debate regarding human language development?

Please read the case and answer the following questions below. I am providing power point slides from the chapter 11 and the instructor’s manual from an earlier edition to help answer the questions. The instructor’s manual points out what the instructor is looking for.

Will Teams Work?

An automobile parts manufacturer was attempting to institute employee problem-solving teams to improve quality. This action was strongly encouraged by its biggest customer, a major automobile manufacturer. The competition in the original equipment manufacturing (OEM) business is especially fierce. The major automobile manufacturers (Ford, GM, DaimlerChrysler, Toyota, Honda, etc.) now demand high-quality parts at extremely low costs, and they often play one supplier against the other to force the OEM industry to meet their standards.

A TNA of middle- and first-level production managers was conducted. These managers were responsible for the operation of the parts production system, a system that is highly mechanized and somewhat automated. The labor force in this area is primarily high-school graduates, but many have less education. The managers’ responsibility prior to the change was to ensure that the hourly workers did their jobs in the proper manner and that the right amount and type of parts were produced to meet the production schedule.

The TNA showed low technical knowledge among these managers, because they had been hired to monitor the hourly employees. They did not really understand the machinery and equipment and had never operated it. Most of them used a confrontational style in dealing with their subordinates, because they felt that if they took a gentler approach, the unionized workforce would take advantage of them. The managers were all selected on the basis of their high need to control their environment, strong desire to achieve, and willingness to work with others to get the job done. These traits still characterize this group of managers.

• What is the managerial context in which these managers will be operating? Do you think training designed to help managers understand the context they will be operating in will be helpful? Why or why not?

Given the readings in Module 10 and 11, how should a Middle Eastern company evaluate the success of a strategic alliance? Identify relevant criteria and discuss your reasons for including them. Describe why they are relevant across industries, cultures, and geographic locations.
