Directions: This
essay should be typed and double spaced. The essay should be
approximately 1500-2000 words in length. The purpose of this essay is to
try to explain something about the mind and/or the life of a poet by
analyzing several works of poetry by the same poet. You can write your
essay based on the poetry of any poet you choose, as long as you can
find enough poems by that poet to analyze in your essay. The poet you
choose can be any person whose work you can analyze for its poetic
content, which may be a songwriter or a spoken-word artist in addition
to a traditional poet. Your essay must include the following contents:

A fairly detailed discussion of at least four poems by the same poet.

A biographical account of the life of the poet, focusing on
aspects of that poet’s life that you discuss in his or her poetry.

At least two sources of critical analysis on the work of the poet.

This means that if you write about the work of a poet who is not covered
with biographical information and critical essays in the textbook about
that poet and his or her work, you will have to do research to cover
that aspect of the essay. There are two poets in the textbook whose life
and work are covered in a Critical Casebook: Emily Dickinson and
Langston Hughes. If your essay covers either of these poets, you can use
material from the textbook. If you would rather not write about one of
these poets, you can write your essay based on the poetry of some other
poet whose work we may cover in class (such as Marianne Moore, Sylvia
Plath, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, etc.), but because we won’t have covered
very many poems from those poets, you will have to find additional
poetry by that poet to analyze in your essay as well as additional
biographical and critical information about that poet. If your essay
includes discussion of poems not in the textbook, you should also attach
the full text of the poems you discuss at the end of your essay. Your
essay should be unified. That is, although you will be discussing at
least four poems by that poet, your analysis of those poems should
develop a consistent thesis about that poet and his or her poetry and
support that thesis with reference to specific aspects of his or her
poetry and life as well as in the critical sources that you cite. You
should, therefore, focus much of your essay on a single theme found in
the poems you analyze. You can analyze other aspects of the poems you
discuss, such as the tone, the imagery, the figures of speech, or any
other significant technique of those poems. But make sure that whatever
aspects of the poems you include in your essay are used to reflect on a
single theme that occurs in those poems. Relate that theme to the author
of the poems. Include information about the life or the thoughts of
that poet, and show how the poems you discuss are a reflection of
aspects of the life and the mind of that poet.

Because you are writing about poetry, and because the language used in
poetry is indispensable to understanding poetry, you must include some
actual quotations from the poems you are writing about. Choose
quotations carefully. Make sure that the quotations you include in your
essay are interesting in and of themselves and that the quotations are
appropriate to the ideas you are covering in your essay. Make sure that
you explain all the quotations you include in your essay. When you quote
from poems, if you quote four or more lines, you should introduce the
quotation with a colon and separate the lines of poetry from the body of
your essay by indenting the lines of the quotation ten spaces. If you
quote three lines or fewer, you should include the quotation in the body
of your essay, put quotation marks around the lines you quote, and
include a slash ( / ) between separate lines within the quotation. It is
not necessary to cite the page number of quotations from these poems.
If you include quotations from any other information from the textbook,
make sure to cite the author of the quotation and the page number of the
quotation in parentheses after the quotation. If you include
information or ideas from sources other than the textbook, cite the
sources for that information in your essay and prepare a Works Cited
page according to MLA format.

Assignment 4: User Frustration
Due Week 9 and worth 80 points

The quality of the user experience is very important to the success of an application. In the early days of computing, users often experienced long delays since computing power was poor and networks had comparatively slow throughput. Modern systems have largely eliminated these delays due to increased network and computing power, yet users still report a high level of frustration.

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:
Describe three (3) reasons users are still frustrated with modern applications.
Suggest one (1) method for reducing the frustrations for each of the reasons you supplied in Question one (1).
Describe methods for determining if user frustration is caused by poor system design or from the natural frustration associated with learning a new software product.
Suggest at least three (3) methods to reduce the frustrations among the disabled population and how this population can be better served.
Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

In 2-3 sentences, briefly describe a problem, issue, or controversy you could research for Writing Project 3: Annotated Bibliography. The problem I am choosing is ” no one believes we do this to kids.”. Next, find three images that illustrate different aspects of this problem or issue or that represent the views of three different stakeholders on the issue. Images may include news photos, ads, cartoons, posters, charts and graphs, or any other public images. Think of this as creating a COLLAGE of images that define your topic. Take care to select DIFFERENT images from DIFFERENT sites and showing DIFFERENT approaches to the topic. Example: If the topic is child abuse, a student would not show three similar images of abused and crying children. Instead, one might show, for instance, one image of a CASA volunteer in court, one image of a concerned teacher contacting a parent, and one image of a shopper in Walmart ignoring a child being beaten in the next aisle. (Note: Please use caution to post or link only to images that are appropriate for general academic distribution.) Be sure to provide a web link or citation for each image so others can find it again easily. Use whatever technique you are most comfortable with to provide access to three images that illustrate the complexity of your chosen topic. Provide a brief discussion of each image, describing why/how you selected it, and how it illustrates an aspect of the problem or controversy. What is the meaning of each image for you and for your topic? Why is this a significant or representative image? You may also comment on any sorts of images you were hoping to find, but couldn’t. Your initial post should be at least 200 original words.

Pick an asset (stock, ETF, etc.) that has been around for at least 5 years, download the monthly
adjusted closing prices and compute monthly returns for the asset and for the market portfolio.

Make sure that you align asset returns with the other variables by date.
Conduct the following exercise.

1. Using monthly data, estimate the CAMP equation:

(Attachment)

The dependent variable (Y) is the excess return of the stock, and the independent variable
(X) is the excess return of the market portfolio.

Print out:

  1. a) data (with variable names clearly marked);
  2. b) regression output;
  3. c) line fit plot.

In your reports, answer the following questions:

  1. 1) Report the coefficient estimates, t-statistics, as well as the adjusted R-square;
  2. 2) Interpret the beta coefficient and comment on the amount of the market risk this security
    has;
  3. 3) Interpret the alpha coefficient. Evaluate the performance of this asset. Did it
    outperform/underperform once its market risk exposure is accounted for;
  4. 4) If you are the Chief Investment Officer of Vanguard, would you consider incorporating
this security into your portfolio? Discuss how you would execute this strategy?

Some frequently asked questions:

1. What time period should I use? Should I use 20 years, 10 years, or 5 years?

Answer: The decision is yours. Generally speaking, if the returns are from a stable distribution,
you want to use as many observations as possible to increase the power of the regression and
minimize estimation error. On the other hand, if you think the return distribution has changed
and that the more recent data are more appropriate to infer future performance, you want to use
only the more recent observations. So the optimal time period is a tradeoff between the two
issues mentioned above. If you feel that your stock has been pretty stable over the last 20 years,
you want to use all 20 years of data. But if you think last 5 years are more representative, you
want to use 5 years.

2. Where do I get data on the returns and on the risk free rate?

You can get SP 500 index (GSPC) closing prices from Yahoo finance. Use the monthly adjusted
closing prices to compute returns. Similarly, using a stock’s ticker symbol, you can download its
adjusted closing price and compute monthly returns. You can align the data series of the market
portfolio and the stock by the dates.

You can use the risk free rate posted on Blackboard “F-F_Research_Data_Factors 2019”.1
Again, you need to make sure that you align the risk free rate, the market and stock returns by
the dates. Note that the variable “rf” is the monthly risk free rate in %. You will need to convert
it to decimals if your stock and market returns are in decimals.

3. How do I conduct regression analysis?

In Excel, go to “Data”, then “Data Analysis” and select “Regression”. You need to specify that
the Y variable is the excess return of the stock and X variable is the excess return of the market
portfolio.

If you don’t see “Data Analysis” in your current Excel settings, you can go to “File”, select
“Options”, then “Add-ins”, select “Analysis ToolPak”. Then repeat the procedures in the prior
paragraph.
