The topic I would like to choose for my term paper is the Black Lives Matter movement, more specifically police brutality against African American men and women in America. This topic is more relevant than ever before, with the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor there’s been outrage by the people for change in America. This is seen with all the protests that are happening today. This topic involves racial inequality because the majority of people who are being killed by the police are black. There is also gender inequality as well because men are being killed at a higher rate. This topic matters to me because it is still happening to this day. Police are killing people who look just like me for no justifiable reasons.They are taking the lives of people with no remorse and doing so without being held accountable for it. We have yet to see justice for the killers of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor. This is an ongoing issue that needs to be resolved.

My only advice is to maintain some focus so that you don’t approach this too broadly, and are able to turn in a well-rounded essay with the limited time we have this summer. From reading your proposal, I can also tell that you care about the solutions – this would be very good to have on your essay.

My advice would be that, in your essay, you present important information that, to your judgement, would represent what everybody should know in order to fix the problem. In the process, you would use this time to start becoming an expert on the topic, and then you condense this expertise down in the term paper. In your conclusions, I would like to see your perspective on how to best approach the problem of police violence (it is completely acceptable if you adhere to someone else’s proposals, but you should be clear about why you think that would be a proper way).

Introduction to Lab

In this lab, you will prepare 6 solutions and test each solution for its buffer capacity.

Most of the solutions will be prepared through direct dilution and serial dilution methods. The target concentrations may be given in units of molarity.

Molarity = moles/volum(L)

The molarity equation can be re-arranged to solve for moles of solute by taking the product of molarity and volume in liters:

moles = MV

During a dilution, the moles of a substance will not change; however, concentration will change because volume is increased during the dilution. The dilution equation has been used in many labs so far and can be used to solve for the volume of stock solution if the concentrations of the stock solution, the target concentration and the total volume of the dilute solution are known.

Personality: Enduring characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving.

Personality Theory tries to answer the question, “What makes us who we are?”

Personality is complex. Our familiar patterns of thinking and behaving develop very early in life and run deep.

Personality Theorists tend to take the Nature side of the “Nature vs Nurture” debate (Or more professionally, the Nativist vs Empiricist debate). Personality Theorists argue that most of what makes us who we are, our characteristic patterns of thinking and behaving, were “baked in” and developed before or shortly after we were born. The idea that we are born with a “genetic predisposition” to some behavior patterns and not to others. The concept of “genetic predisposition” will see again in the next chapter on Abnormal Psych.

We will start the lecture by looking at the history of studying individual personality, and like most things in psychology, that begins with our friend Sigmund Freud. Next we will look other ways to study and measure personality and we will end with the modern “The Big Five” model of personality and you will do your own personality test using the classic Meyers-Briggs Indicator Test.
