University of California Global Gender and Sexuality Paper Writing Assignment Help

Global gender and Sexuality

1. Rewriting the Main text, 2. Rewriting the Blurbs.

Assignment 1, Part 2.

®Due by Friday Oct 18, latest by midnight (i.e. before Saturday Oct 19).

®4 pages double-spaced (see details below):

Rewrite and expand your first thought piece by following instructions 1-4.

  • Incorporating feedback from discussion sections to improve the clarity and strength of your writing.
  • Exploring how intersectionality affects your life. Add these aspects into, and not “on” to, your first paper.
  • Discussing what aspects of feminism we have encountered in the course so far resonate most with you.
  • Your “pair” homework assignment on revising the Conventional View of First Wave Feminism: (following the image that I send to you)

How to do this:

  • Rewrite Assignment 1 Part 1 based on the feedback you have received. (you can modify it yourself)
  • Write one additional paragraph (in addition to the 2 pages) explaining how you incorporated feedback to revise the paper.(since my classmate didn’t give me any feedback on asst 1 part 1that I send to you, you can gives your feedback and related to the new paper.)

How to do this:

  • Explain the concept of intersectionality by drawing upon the course material (Sources: Crenshaw’s explanation + lectures).
  • Explain how you, personally, are impacted by intersectionality. You can use examples from your first paper, or new ones.
  • Build this discussion on intersectionality INTO, not “onto” your first paper. This could mean moving things around, rewriting one or more paragraphs of your original paper, finding different examples, analyzing the same examples again, etc. It’s going to look different for everyone. The idea is not to just “tack on” a discussion of intersectionality to your first paper, but to learn how to incorporate a new analytical angle into something you’ve already written.

® This cumulative revision of your first paper (including all the components above) should be 3 pages double-spaced.

® This component should be half to one page, double spaced.

How to do this:

  • “Resonate” can mean any one of the following possibilities or a combination of them:
  • Sources: Please refer to:

– Something you agree with (partially or fully) and why.

– Something that reflects your own experiences, and how.

– Something that appeals to you because of the issues you care about: how and why.

– Something you think is relevant to today’s age: how and why.

– Intersectionality may be part of your discussion here on resonance. But do not merely repeat what you already said about intersectionality in your first 3 pages. There, you were connecting it to your own experiences. Here, you would connect it to explicit feminist ideas/waves/movements/figures and how they were shaped by intersectionality.

– How what you are learning in this class connects to your evolving understanding of feminism so far. You can take these question I asked in class about the suffragettes as a starting point, applying it to any aspect of feminism:

  • How did you first get to know of them?
  • What are the dominant narratives about them? Does what you know resonate with the “Seneca Falls to Suffrage” story?
  • Has your understanding of them evolved over time? How and why?
  • At least 1 academic text as indicated on the syllabus and covered in lecture between Thurs Oct 3-Thurs Oct 15. (If you are not sure what constitutes an academic text versus not, ask your TA).(all the powerpoint is on file)
  • At least 1 non-academic source from the syllabus and/or lecture: e.g. blog posts, images, videos.
  • Make sure you cite your sources. If you used an image from my lecture (ppt) and don’t know the source, you can cite the lecture with the date.

Separate parts:

® This will be the last page of your paper, ~1 page.

Based on what you learned in class on Oct 3, how would you make the conventional view of First Wave feminism more complicated?

Share with your assigned partner the task of
1. Rewriting the Main text, 2. Rewriting the Blurbs.

Writing Tips

Please follow the tips provided to you in the assigned writing text “Writing in College” (Parts 1, 2, and 3) and The “Writing Tips” word document on Canvas. Implement the writing strategies emphasized in lecture and sections, and improve on those you used for Assignment 1 Part 1.

University of California Irvine Memory into a Story Story Writing Exercise Writing Assignment Help

Story Writing Exercise

To encourage students write realistically, as opposed to just reproducing slightly altered versions of narratives they have become familiar with through popular culture, it is helpful to ask them to write from personal experience. As the exercise progresses, students may wish to alter names and other details. They may introduce fictional elements. In schools, the following instructions might be given over a period of two or more weeks, interspaced with discussion, feedback, peer review.

  • Close your eyes and think of a time when you were able to do something that, at first, you doubted you would be able to do successfully. It could involve learning a skill (like riding a bike, learning algebra or scoring a goal in soccer) or facing a challenge (like jumping off the high board at the swimming pool, standing up to a bully, or moving to a new school). The story of this event could be one you have often told before or it could be something that just happened. Open your eyes, pick up a pen, and describe what happened as vividly as you can. Write quickly. For now, it is important to get as much as you can down paper.
  • Next, describe how you ended up in the situation in which you found yourself in this story. You can change the names and places later. For now, just focus on describing what led up to your moment of success. Once you have done this, stop and think about where you want to put this information (At the beginning of the story? Insert it as a “flashback” later on?. Once you have made this decision, show with arrows where you intend to insert this information. (You can wait and revise the story later).
  • Imagine that a film crew has just arrived to dramatize your story. A scriptwriter will provide the dialogue. Now, look over your plot and insert whatever dialogue you can recall (or you can insert reconstructed dialogue that seems to fit the characters).
  • Next, imagine that you are a set designer. Where were the characters when they when these events were taking place? What did this place look like (architecture, landscape, weather, onlookers, cultural context)? Smell like? Sound like? Feel like? Try to put as much immediate, sensory information as possible into your description.
  • Imagine that you are a costume designer. Here you can let your imagination roam a bit. You don’t have to recall just what everyone in the story was wearing. What kind of clothes would best fit each character? What clothes would help the reader to better understand what kind of person (rich/poor, old/young, stylish/not) this is?
  • Put yourself in the place of the director and describe how each character moves, speaks, gestures. Focus on each and jot down descriptive details. What kind of posture or stride does each have? Do they have favorite phrases they like to use?
  • Go back and revised your plot. Insert the new information from #2-#6. By now you should have a fairly complete story, with suspense about whether you will succeed and interesting characters. Now, step back into the author’s role and finish up the end of the story in whatever way makes the most sense to you.
