Discussion: Strategies for Academic Portfolios

In the realm of marketing, a successful branding strategy is one of the most important contributors to organizational success. A solid branding strategy can help add visibility and credibility to a company’s products.

Similarly, nurse-scholars can build a personal brand to add visibility and credibility to their work. You can begin building your brand by developing and maintaining an academic portfolio. Such an activity can help share the results of your efforts and contribute to your success. This Module’s Discussion asks you to consider and share strategies for building your portfolio.

To Prepare:

• Reflect on strategies that you can pursue in developing portfolios or portfolio elements that focus on academic achievements.
• Review one or more samples from your own research of resources focused on portfolio development.

By Day 3 of Week 8

Post an explanation of at least two strategies for including academic activities and accomplishments into your professional development goals. Then, explain how those goals may align with the University’s emphasis on social change. Be specific and provide examples.

Expanding Services and Changing Governance Structure

Introduction

Carefully read the Pediatric Dental Care Center, Case # 18 located on page 269 in Darr, Farnsworth, & Myrtle’s Case book. This case study presents a not-for-profit Pediatric Dental Care Center (PDCC) that has struggled financially for years as it serves a Medicaid population. It is offered the opportunity to become part of a federally qualified health center, but to do so requires expanding services and significantly changing its governance structure. There is several interconnected issues which have no single answer or cookbook approach. Funding for safety-net programs has been declining, and this has led to limitations on the type and frequency of care visits, as well as reductions in payments to providers of services. This has led many organizations to limit the number of safety-net clients served, or to withdraw from serving that population group. This has increased demand for organizations that continue to provide care.

The students are expected to carefully read the assignment instructions, then thoroughly and explicitly address each component of the corresponding case study questions.

Case Study Questions:

1. Is the PDCC at a crossroads?
2. Must the PDCC change its operational strategy?
3. How can the PDCC meet its mission to provide oral healthcare to underserved children in the greater South Bay community?
4. How should PDCC respond to the request to partner with the hospital and the children’s clinic and become a federally qualified health center?
5. What other options should be considered?

Submission Expectations:

• The submission should reflect higher-level cognitive processing (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation), which is essential for someone being prepared to serve in an operational capacity within the healthcare and related industry.
• To earn the maximum number of points, the submission should reflect graduate-level execution with clear evidence of critical thinking, synthesis of relevant information from credible sources, and clear mastery of the concepts necessary to successfully execute each component of the assignment.
• The submission should not exceed four (4) pages in length, excluding the title and reference list pages, and explicitly address all required components of this assignment.
• The document must be double-spaced, adhere to the APA writing style (7th ed.), and include at least three (3) references of credible or peer-reviewed sources to support any suppositions and recommendations.
• Finally, the document should be prepared as a Microsoft Word document and uploaded to Submit Assignment.

Introduction

This activity will focus on the flow of food and beverage products through the food service operation and the basics of purchasing, receiving, storing and issuing food and beverage items.

Your objective will be to become familiar with the different purchasing, receiving, storing and issuing food and beverage available by applying your knowledge acquired from this module.

Visit a restaurant or hotel near where you live. Perhaps you are already working at such an organization or institution.

• Are there any sustainable practices being incorporated into the day to day purchasing, receiving, storing and issuing food and beverage items?
• Can the purchasing, receiving, storage and issuing process in place be simplified?
• How does a perpetual inventory system differ from a physical inventory system?

Choose two works of art from an assigned reading, assigned podcast, or a lecture from week 1-
6. The objective is to compare and contrast the pair of works to explain how they envision the
relationship between art and life. Your essay (no more than 1500 words) must address the ideas and issues presented in
the class lectures and assigned readings and resources by doing
the following:
• Identify the general historical and artistic context for both works (time period, style
etc.).

• Compare and contrast the works to explain how they relate to the key ideas and themes
we’ve covered in class (discuss aesthetic, content, historical, social and political aspects).

• Support the compare and contrast analysis with references to specific details of subject
matter and formal properties

• Write a conclusion summarizing what you understand to be the most significant point
about the relationship between these two works.
