Generalist Macro Practice Exploration – 5 Points

In 2-3 pages (excluding reference page), individually, students demonstrate an understanding of generalist practice at the macro level in the social work profession. Students select ONE specific issue or problem that exists in West Michigan of which social workers can play a role (e.g., racial disparities, anti-LGBT policies, interpartner violence, juvenile delinquency, criminal justice reform, school safety, housing affordability, gentrification, opioid addiction, mental health stigma, etc.) and discuss of how social work is useful for macro dynamics of service provision.

INSTRUCTIONS: Students are expected to address the following in their paper.

Identify and describe ONE serious/significant issue/problem in West Michigan. Discuss, in detail the size/scope, duration, and severity of the macro issue/problem as well as demographics of the affected population(s). Be as specific as possible describing particular locations and/or communities within West Michigan. Cite sources in APA (reference page not include in the page count). (1 point)

Describe and explain at least THREE different roles a social worker might play in providing macro level services to the identified population/problem. Refer to the 11 roles identified in the “Social Work Roles” handout posted on Blackboard (i.e., enabler, mediator, manager, educator, analyst/evaluator, broker, facilitator, initiator, negotiator, mobilizer, and advocate). Be sure your example roles describe macro social work focused. (1 point)

Identify and explain the most serious possible ethical dilemma (i.e., the choice between two equally poor options) that could arise that challenges both the macro worker and the community being served. (1 point)

Describe how the NASW Code of Ethics can inform or be used by the macro social worker when providing macro services to this client system. Refer to the “NASW Code of Ethics” handout posted on Blackboard. (1 point)

SOURCES OF INFORMATION / EVIDENCE

What type of information should you collect? In general, consider which type of information will be most convincing to your audience. However, in most academic and professional settings (and throughout this course)—because they have reached us from their creators without going through any filter—primary sources are preferred. Even so, there are many times where secondary and tertiary sources are warranted.

When you make distinctions between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, you are relating the information itself to the context in which it was created. Understanding that relationship is an important skill that you’ll need in college as well as in the workplace. Noting the relationship between creation and context helps us understand the “big picture” in which information operates and helps us figure out which information we can depend on. That’s a big part of thinking critically, a major benefit of actually becoming an educated person.

Primary sources provide firsthand evidence gathered by the author(s).  They may be created or documented at the time of an event, as in scholarly research articles, some government reports, diaries, photographs, original artwork, speeches, letters,  conference proceedings, memos, interviews, correspondences, and some newspaper reports. A primary source may also be  documented at a later time, such as autobiographies, memoirs, and oral histories…but these are still firsthand accounts.

Secondary sources describe, interpret or analyze information obtained from other sources (often primary sources).  Examples of secondary sources  include many books, textbooks, scholarly review articles, biographies, political analyses and commentaries, and reviews of law and legislation.

Tertiary sources compile, organize, and summarize mostly secondary sources.  Examples might include reference publications such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, manuals, guidebooks, bibliographies, and some textbooks.

Note: Defining a source as primary, secondary, or tertiary can also depend on how you are using the material. For example, a magazine article may be both primary and secondary.

A magazine article reporting on recent studies linking the reduction of energy consumption to the compact fluorescent light bulb would be a secondary source.

A research article or study proving this would be a primary source.

However, if you were studying how compact fluorescent light bulbs are presented in the popular media, the magazine article could be considered a primary source.[supanova_question]

RUNNING HEAD: MACRO PROBLEM

Introduction

Far too frequently, judgment has been passed down when it comes to homelessness. Regrettably, it is not as straightforward as find a job and pay your rent. Several factors contribute to being homeless. This represents a macro-level matter that has to be tackled. We need to think about poverty, affordable residential accommodation, health matters, addiction, society, and household breakdowns. All these things are factors that contribute to a larger scale. We also need to take into account the fact that each district is not equipped with a homeless shelter for people to receive a good night’s rest and decent food to be psychologically steady to resolve the problem in question and work towards the solution the problem.

The Problem

Homelessness is a macro-level dilemma throughout the United States. Bradford County,

Florida is not a stranger to homeless people; it is a countryside region situated in the northeast part of the state. The projected population within 2019 was 28,2021 (U.S. census bureau quick facts: Bradford County, Florida, 2019). According to figures communicated to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 2018, there have been 33 individuals registered destitute living on the streets, 10 in prison, and 110 kids in the schools (2018 count of homelessness people in NCF alliance, 2018). We need to realize these figures are merely those reported to HUD; therefore, those percentages do not provide a complete picture of the problem. Homelessness has been attributed to several factors. Mago et al., (2013) describe homelessness as a complicated societal dilemma with a wide range of underlying financial and societal reasons like poverty, lack of affordable housing, undefined physical and psychological health, addictions, and society and family breakdown.

Magnitude of Problem

Homelessness remains a problem throughout most areas. These are unpredictable and potentially dangerous conditions; the probability of drug use and criminal conduct is heightened, property values are reduced in some areas, and untreated psychological wellbeing diseases are elevated because of unpredictability. Far too frequently, while visiting a prisoner at a prison and being homeless, the person additionally reports an untreated psychological health illness and a drug abuse problem. With that being said, when you address homelessness, community issues have to be considered, not only micro-level matters. Regularly, structure problems have been neglected, and a lot more attention is positioned on the person’s problems. As a result, psychological conditions and drug usage are elevated amongst the homeless population. However, we should not suppose that is the original issue that causes homelessness (“Florida’s council on homelessness,” 2019). Instead, we have to take into account the fundamental issues which led to current difficulties.

Bradford County does not possess any homeless shelters. The nearest shelter is located approximately 45 minutes away, which is causing an issue due to the fact that many do not possess a vehicle. Talking about transportation, Bradford County does not contain any public transit, so this is becoming yet another problem. Understandably, we need to tackle homelessness from a cost-efficient, inexpensive housing, education, etc., point of view; however, in the time being, having a shelter for people to get out of outside elements and obtain a meal would be appropriate. This could give them the opportunity to confront the following day with a healthier mentality to combat their issue and work on the way to a possible solution.

Peer-Reviewed Literature

Homelessness remains a persistent issue in a society which includes a myriad of reasons

that will not affect only the person or the whole family, but the community as well. Research discover that every homeless person is at the expense of $30,000 and $40,000 per year for taxpayers. Such costs arise if the individuals facing homelessness are psychologically unwell (Brallier et al., 2019). A grave issue with homelessness exists transportation. Being deprived of vehicles makes it difficult for people to start working in the direction of a solution to the problem. Transport services are necessary to acquire and sustain a job, go to doctor appointments, receive benefits or additional resources. If a person is living in a rural area, the public transport system is not an option. Whenever one is confronted with being homeless, they might see it as a rotating dilemma because several requirements are being unfulfilled to drag themselves out of the issue. It has been said that “neither structure nor agency reflect the entire picture, but that social structure and individual agency are intertwined to affect life chances. Social structures affect the way that people behave, and in turn, the behavior of individuals affects social structures and policy” (Brallier et al., 2019). Eventually, the person faces obstacles all the time. These matters are causing individuals to give up on attempting for the reason that one problem generates additional issues.

Among several of the problems mentioned that have contributed to homelessness, cheap housing and people living in poverty are vital. It has been reported that a family receiving the minimum salary in Florida requires to work 104 hours each week to pay for a typical two-bedroom residence or 84 hours a week for just a one-room apartment (“Florida’s council on homelessness,” 2019). This is a big problem due to the fact that even two-income households are having a tough time making ends meet with housing costs being so elevated. A family unit could find themselves homeless if hours are being cut or if a person becomes jobless for the reason that there are not sufficient funds left behind after paying for essentials to build up any investments.

Being homeless is a stressful experience. Apart from what problems have led one to

become homeless, homelessness frequently leads to further issues such as loneliness, medical problems, substance abuse, unsafe activities, and illegal actions. When in the difficult situation of being homeless, individuals have low self-respect and go into emotional depression.

(Constantinescu et al., 2020). Due to these matters, once a person pulls themself out of

this vicious circle and has the ability to obtain solidity; there will be a method of dealing with the distress lived of being homeless. In order to earn their independence and sovereignty, here is the opposite process of reclaiming self-esteem and self-identity, and at the same time going back to society (Constantinescu et al., 2020). However, just acquiring work and residential accommodation, sadly, does not fix the problem. One is going to have to seek out physical and psychological medical attention and several times drug abuse therapy in conjunction with trying to preserve their solidity all over again.

Theories and Models

As discussed earlier, homelessness is a complicated matter; one issue is leading to

numerous other issues. Functionalism, also known as structural-functional theory, observes the community as a framework with interconnected components designed to fulfill the genetic and societal demands of the people within that society (Theoretical perspectives | introduction to sociology, 2014). For instance, if a person goes to school and surpasses, that leads to satisfaction in themself. One may be more likely to acquire well-compensating employment, acquire appropriate housing, and preserve a balanced lifestyle. While, if a person drops out of school, they might battle with retaining employment or deal with low-paying jobs which do not cover all the debts, which can lead to depression. Consequently, this individual may encounter homelessness, which could subsequently result in an untreated health condition, potential drug abuse, and crime. This hypothesis undoubtedly is associated with the homeless problem in society. Abject Poverty, adequate income, medical care, substance abuse, untreated health issues, transportation, education, etc., are all matters that can contribute to homelessness. In the same way as internal bodies of a typical living entity, society keeps its steadiness, sequence, and advancement only when societal bodies, structures, and organizations synchronize and work together with each other, are in equilibrium, not clash with each other (Subedi, n.d.). One problem in society gives rise to another for the individuals. An additional example is that drug misuse is an unpredictable unlawful activity that means there will ultimately be legal matters to follow. On the other hand, if a person is going to be working daily and making their bills a high priority, they will likely preserve strength and maintain a roof over their head.

Best Practice Approaches

Most importantly, I want to see motivational interviewing utilized when tackling

homelessness. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an objective orientated approach to case administration and therapy that supports those who want to explore and settle their incongruity for unlawful and damaging lifestyles to encourage social transformation (NH Coalition to End Homelessness, 2016). MI offers the person displaying the issue a chance to have a voice heard in the matter. They will have the opportunity to provide their perspective regarding what their real needs are.

Activism is going to be a high priority in dealing with this problem. Advocating city council representatives and other relevant community associations to construct a particular type of needy shelter in the society would be desirable. These will be temporary stays to get folks out of the elements while working toward a solution. Additional advocacy would have been for a housing first grant. This is going to be to deliver the necessity of accommodation to establish well-being so that people can concentrate on providing additional stability within their lives. A social worker’s moral obligation is to advocate for living circumstances beneficial to the accomplishment of essential human needs and the need to promote social, economic, political, and cultural values and institutions that are compliant with the implementation of social justice (NASW 2017).

Another approach in combating homelessness could be Critical Time Intervention (CTI). CTI is a homeless avoidance model of time-restricted case management concentrating on assisting individuals with severe mental disorders that are currently being released from institutional facilities. Studies have demonstrated CTI programs to be cost-efficient in contrast with other case management models (Evidence-Based practices, 2016). This particular model has also been used to release people from prison, veterans, or any susceptible population. Being discharged from an installation is a highly significant time to interfere. A case supervisor will work with the people to recognize strengths and requirements and deliver the relevant resources. This assistance will enable people to move toward their circumstances from a different angle as opposed to retreating out on the streets without a plan of action.

Universal Plan

A scheme of measures to tackle homelessness remains to primarily come up with a unit of social workers that work out within a community organizing motivational interviewing (MI) with people from a homeless society. This person may be resistant at the start in such a way that the social workers are going to need to spend a little time within the community building relationships. The methods of MI may be particularly effective in raising awareness due to the fact that they allow social workers to give resources to people in a delicate and mild approach (SAMHSA, 2010). Sooner Or later, some shape of confidence will be constructed, and social workers will have the opportunity to obtain their standpoint on their requirements and what is going to assist them in restoring their life.

A CTI unit will need to be also formed. This group of case administrators will be working on case management requirements with people being discharged from prisons, medical facilities, or crisis maintenance groups. The group helps facilitate public assimilation and the continuation of treatment by ensuring that an individual has long-lasting connections to their community and the support structures throughout these key intervals (Herman, 2008). This is an extremely important period of reentrance into the community, which will offer support, optimism, and reassurance.

While you are working with citizens throughout the community, there will be a group of social workers promoting residential accommodation. A specific level of capacity will be temporary accommodation in the shape of a homeless shelter. This is going to provide people a temporary location to get away from the outside elements and give meals so that they will be able to concentrate on their responsibilities at hand for that day. Activism is expected to be addressed to city council representatives as well as any other community representatives who might be interested in helping in this field. The alternative form of support will occur at a State or Federal degree to advocate for a housing first grant. Housing First is a homeless aid approach that focuses on delivering long-lasting housing to individuals facing homelessness. The conviction drives this method that individuals require basic needs such as food and a location to live prior to attending something less critical, such as finding a job, budgeting correctly, or joining a substance abuse group (Housing first, 2016). These residential accommodation alternatives will not just help the people and families suffering from homelessness, but it will eventually be beneficial for society. For example, it would decrease illegal activities, offer a more secure community, decrease the unemployment levels, decrease drug use, boost real estate values, etc.

Conclusion

We have to take into account the fact that every region is not equipped with a homeless shelter for people to receive a good night’s rest and food so that a person can be psychologically steady to deal with the problem in question and work to achieve the solution to the problem. Homelessness is a highly significant problem throughout the nation that we have to deal with. It is a complicated issue that includes multiple levels. It would be helpful to have a homeless shelter or even a housing first program to assist individuals in getting off the

streets in order to enable them to work on matters which brought them to being homeless.

Niccolo Machiavelli, Excerpts

Introduction: Machiavelli (1469-1527) is mostly known for his treatise The Prince (1513) on the Renaissance city-state rulers of the Italian Peninsula. As an Italian diplomat and philosopher, he wrote many types of additional works, including comedies and poetry. Below are some excerpts from The Prince and another work on Republican ideals, Discourses on Livy.

As you read the excerpts, consider what elements of the past he emphasizes. Is he advocating to simply imitate the past? How does he also comment on the current political situation in his recommendations for founding a republic?

Discourses Chapter 1: To found a new republic, or to reform entirely the old institutions of an existing one, must be the work of one man only

It may perhaps appear to some that I have gone too far into the details of Roman history before having made any mention of the founders of that republic, or of her institutions, her religion and her military establishment. Not wishing, therefore, to keep any longer in suspense the desires of those who wish to understand these matters, I say that many will perhaps consider it an evil example that the founder of a civil society, as Romulus was, should first have killed his brother, and then have consented to the death of Titus Tatius, who had been elected to share the royal authority with him; from which it might be concluded that the citizens, according to the example of their prince, might, from ambition and the desire to rule, destroy those who attempt to oppose their authority. This opinion would be correct, if we do not take into consideration the object which Romulus had in view in committing that homicide. But we must assume, as a general rule, that it never or rarely happens that a republic or monarchy is well constituted, or its old institutions entirely reformed, unless it is done by only one individual; it is even necessary that he whose mind has conceived such a constitution should be alone in carrying it into effect. A sagacious legislator of a republic, therefore, whose object is to promote the public good, and not his private interests, and who prefers his country to his own successors, should concentrate all authority in himself; and a wise mind will never censure any one for having employed any extraordinary means for the purpose of establishing a kingdom or constituting a republic. It is well that, when the act accuses him, the result should excuse him; and when the result is good, as in the case of Romulus, it will always absolve him from blame. For he is to be reprehended who commits violence for the purpose of destroying, and not he who employs it for beneficent purposes. The lawgiver should, however, be sufficiently wise and virtuous not to leave this authority which he has assumed either to his heirs or to any one else; for mankind being more prone to evil than to good, his successor might employ for evil purposes the power which he had used only for good ends. Besides, although one man alone should organise a government, yet it will not endure long if the administration of it remains on the shoulders of a single individual; it is well, then, to confide this to the charge of many, for thus it will be sustained by the many. Therefore, as the organisation of anything cannot be made by many, because the divergence of their opinions hinders them from agreeing as to what is best, yet, when once they do understand it, they will not readily agree to abandon it. That Romulus deserves to be excused for the death of his brother and that of his associate, and that what he had done was for the general good, and not for the gratification of his own ambition, is proved by the fact that he immediately instituted a senate with which to consult, and according to the opinions of which he might form his resolutions. And on carefully considering the authority which Romulus reserved for himself, we see that all he kept was the command of the army in case of war, and the power of convoking the senate. This was seen when Rome became free, after the expulsion of the Tarquins, when there was no other innovation made upon the existing order of things than the substitution of two consuls, appointed annually, in place of an hereditary king; which proves clearly that all the original institutions of that city were more in conformity with the requirements of a free and civil society than with an absolute and tyrannical government.

The above views might be corroborated by any number of examples, such as those of Moses, Lycurgus, Solon, and other founders of monarchies and republics, who were enabled to establish laws suitable for the general good only by keeping for themselves an exclusive authority; but all these are so well known that I will not further refer to them. I will adduce only one instance, not so celebrated, but which merits the consideration of those who aim to become good legislators: it is this. Agis, king of Sparta, desired to bring back the Spartans to the strict observance of the laws of Lycurgus, being convinced that, by deviating from them, their city had lost much of her ancient virtue, and consequently her power and dominion; but the Spartan ephors had him promptly killed, as one who attempted to make himself a tyrant. His successor, Cleomenes, had conceived the same desire, from studying the records and writings of Agis, which he had found, and which explained his aims and intentions. Cleomenes was convinced that he would be unable to render this service to his country unless he possessed sole authority; for he judged that, owing to the ambitious nature of men, he could not promote the interests of the many against the will of the few; and therefore he availed himself of a convenient opportunity to have all the ephors slain, as well as all such others as might oppose his project, after which he restored the laws of Lycurgus entirely. This course was calculated to resuscitate the greatness of Sparta, and to give Cleomenes a reputation equal to that of Lycurgus, had it not been for the power of the Macedonians and the weakness of the other Greek republics. For being soon after attacked by the Macedonians, and Sparta by herself being inferior in strength, and there being no one whom he could call to his aid, he was defeated; and thus his project, so just and laudable, was never put into execution. Considering, then, all these things, I conclude that, to found a republic, one must be alone; and that Romulus deserves to be absolved from, and not blamed for, the death of Remus and of Tatius.

The Prince (Excerpts)

That Which Concerns a Prince on the Subject of the Art of War

The Prince ought to have no other aim or thought, nor select anything else for his study, than war and its rules and discipline; for this is the sole art that belongs to him who rules, and it is of such force that it not only upholds those who are born princes, but it often enables men to rise from a private station to that rank. And, on the contrary, it is seen that when princes have thought more of ease than of arms they have lost their states. And the first cause of your losing it is to neglect this art; and what enables you to acquire a state is to be master of the art. Francesco Sforza, though being martial, from a private person became Duke of Milan; and the sons, through avoiding the hardships and troubles of arms, from dukes became private persons. For among other evils which being unarmed brings you, it causes you to be despised, and this is one of those ignominies against which a prince ought to guard himself, as is shown later on.

Concerning Things for Which Men, and Especially Princes, are Blamed

It remains now to see what ought to be the rules of conduct for a prince toward subject and friends. And as I know that many have written on this point, I expect I shall be considered presumptuous in mentioning it again, especially as in discussing it I shall depart from the methods of other people. But it being my intention to write a thing which shall be useful to him to apprehends it, it appears to me more appropriate to follow up the real truth of a matter than the imagination of it; for many have pictured republics and principalities which in fact have never been known or seen, because how one lives is so far distant from how one ought to live, that he who neglects what is done for what ought to be done, sooner effects his ruin than his preservation; for a man who wishes to act entirely up to his professions of virtue soon meets with what destroys him among so much that is evil.

Hence, it is necessary for a prince wishing to hold his own to know how to do wrong, and to make use of it or not according to necessity. Therefore, putting on one side imaginary things concerning a prince, and discussing those which are real, I say that all men when they are spoken of, and chiefly princes for being more highly placed, are remarkable for some of those qualities which bring them either blame or praise; and thus it is that one is reputed liberal, another miserly…; one is reputed generous, one rapacious; one cruel, one compassionate; one faithless, another faithful…. And I know that every one will confess that it would be most praiseworthy in a prince to exhibit all the above qualities that are considered good; but because they can neither be entirely possessed nor observed, for human conditions do not permit it, it is necessary for him to be sufficiently prudent that he may know how to avoid the reproach of those vices which would lose him his state…

Concerning Cruelty and Clemency, and Whether it is Better to be Loved than Feared

Upon this a question arises: whether it is better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? It may be answered that one should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved, when, of the two, either must be dispensed with. Because this is to be asserted in general of men, that they are ungrateful, fickle, false, cowardly, covetous, and as long as you successed they are yours entirely; they will offer you their blood, property, life, and children, as is said above, when the need is far distant; but when it approaches they turn against you. And that prince who, relying entirely on their promises, has neglected other precautions, is ruined; because friendships that are obtained by payments, and not by nobility or greatness of mind, may indeed be earned, but they are not secured, and in time of need cannot be relied upon; and men have less scruple in offending one who is beloved than one who is feared, for love is preserved by the link of obligation which, owing to the baseness of men, is broken at every opportunity for their advantage; but fear preserved you by a dread of punishment which never fails.

Nevertheless a prince ought to inspire fear in such a way that, if he does not win love, he avoids hatred; because he can endure very well being feared whilst he is not hated, which will always be as long as he abstains from the property of his citizens and subjects and from their women.

MAT-144 Major Assignment 3 Instructions Please follow these instructions when completing Major

MAT-144 Major Assignment 3 Instructions

Please follow these instructions when completing Major Assignment 3. You will be creating a project writeup in Microsoft Word and completing an Excel template for the assignment. Refer to the assignment rubric for details about how the assignment will be scored.

Overview

You have decided that, 5 years from now, you will dedicate 12 weeks of your time to implementing a project to provide humanitarian assistance to people in your local community. At that time, you will take a break from your work or retirement and spend at least 30 hours per week for 12 weeks engaged in realizing a project that you are designing now and that you will work to plan and fund between now and when you start your project.

Project details in Word

For your project, you will identify a group of local people that you will assist with a need such as housing, health care or nutrition, education or vocational training, safety, mental health, neighborhood cleanup, or a similar project that has the potential to improve their lives in both the short and long run.

You will contact representatives from local churches, charities, non-governmental and/or governmental organizations to get information about areas of need in your community.

For your project, you will provide specifics of what you will achieve and how the success of your project should be measured.

To ensure that your project will succeed in the 12 weeks provided, you will divide your project into two halves, identifying what will be accomplished at the end of each 6-week interval and how it will be clear to outside people that the step has been accomplished successfully.

For the project as a whole, you will also identify the people, resources, and materials needed to provide your service. Your project must include the assistance of other people, either whom you will recruit as volunteers, whom you will pay for expert assistance, or both.

You will provide a detailed write-up in Microsoft Word (2,000 to 4,000 words) with specifics of your project implementation. For full credit, you must address each point in each section. The objective here is to demonstrate that you have thought through in detail what it would mean to provide certain types of assistance. You must provide a separate section in your document for each item, as indicated here.

Although you may cross-reference points between sections, the questions from each section must be answered in that section to get credit for your response. The amount of credit you receive will depend on how thoroughly you have considered your implementation: you should attempt to write so that a reasonable reader would need to ask few or no follow-up questions to clarify your overall objective, people you will help, assistance provided, project management, timeline, assessment procedures, ethics and CWV analysis, and reflections. Write-ups that leave many questions unanswered or with significant gaps will earn less credit.

Here are the separate sections to provide in your write-up:

A title for your write-up, including your name, the date, the course and instructor’s name. Your title should capture the essence of your project (e.g., “Tiny Homes for the Homeless in Mendenhall, MS”)

Whom will you help? (250 to 500 words)

What characterizes the group? What is their economic status? What mix of ages and genders are they? Etc.

Where do the people live? At a specific location or in various locations? In what part(s) of town?

How will you decide what kind of assistance and how much assistance to provide to whom? For example, does the assistance provided change based on age, gender, family grouping, etc.?

How will you approach people to offer help?

How will you keep track of whom you are helping?

What assistance will you provide? (250 to 500 words)

What specific assistance will you bring to the people who need it (goods, services, training, cash assistance, etc.)? (Here, a response like “cash payments of $50 per person per week” is better than “cash payments”)

How and where will you provide the assistance? Will you maintain a location for people to come to? Will you visit people where they are? Will you provide transportation if needed (or if that’s part of your service)? Etc.

What kinds of skills are needed to provide this assistance? What special training or certification (if any) is required?

How will this assistance help people in the short run? That is, how might people be better off immediately because of the assistance you provide?

How will this assistance help people in the long run? That is, how might the assistance you provide have lasting effects, even if it is time-limited?

How will you track and document the process by which you are providing assistance?

How will you manage your project? (250 to 500 words)

Where will central operations for your project be? Will you rent a location, look for a donated location, or work in a distributed way (say from people’s houses)?

What documentation will you need to generate and maintain for the project, and how will you ensure the security and confidentiality of that documentation?

How will you coordinate volunteer efforts, and what will volunteers do? How will you screen volunteers? How many volunteers do you expect to have?

What will you accomplish in the first half of your project? (250 to 500 words)

What are the starting and ending dates of your project? (These should be 5 years in the future and run for the 12 weeks of your project.)

How many weeks will you need to start up your project before beginning to provide your project assistance? What will you need to accomplish during these weeks? How would you prove to an outside person (e.g., an auditor) that everything is in place to proceed with your program?

In the remaining weeks of the first half of your project, how many people do you expect to be able to assist, and in what ways? Provide evidence that the volunteers and time available are sufficient to achieve this goal.

What will you accomplish in the second half of your project? (250 to 500 words)

How many weeks of operations will you have before starting to wrap up your project? During this time, how many additional people do you expect to be able to assist, and in what ways? Again, provide evidence that you have enough people power to achieve your objective here.

In the remaining weeks, what steps will you take to wrap up your project? What records will you retain, and how will you archive those? What steps are required to finalize any location-related expenses?

How will you conclude relationships with people you are assisting? What additional sources of support can you direct them to after your project is complete?

How will you evaluate your project? (250 to 500 words)

If you had to determine immediately after the end of your project whether your assistance had helped, how would you do that? What kind of metric or metrics could you use to determine whether a particular individual had been helped? What questions would you need to ask to determine this?

Similarly, how could you determine, 3 months after the end of your project, whether your project assistance was still having an effect? How would you get back in touch with people you had helped? What characteristics of their condition could you measure to determine whether any positive impact from your assistance still remained?

What else might you need to know before your project starts in order to evaluate success after the project ends?

An Ethics and Christian Worldview analysis (250 to 500 words), addressing the following:

How does your project demonstrate the Judeo-Islamic-Christian ideal of loving your neighbor as yourself? What other religious and/or ethical principles does your project strive to exemplify or realize?

How are the people you propose to help different from you, and how might you structure your project to help bridge differences and lead to increased mutual understanding and respect?

How does your project further the goal of affording human value and dignity to all people?

A summary and reflections section (250 to 500 words), addressing the following:

Whom did you contact to learn about needs in your local community? What input did they provide to direct your investigation?

What other local needs did you consider? What was compelling to you about the one you chose?

For the assistance you plan to provide, what other avenues are there for people to receive that assistance? How likely is it that it will be available to them?

What other factors (legal, political, social, etc.) that were not considered as a part of this presentation might you need to investigate if you were actually to implement a project such as this one?

Financial computations in Excel

Separately from your presentation to sponsors, you will complete calculations in Excel detailing your expected costs, sponsorship and fundraising contributions, and loan details. A template is provided for this part of the assignment, including additional information to assist you.

As part of your financial calculations, you will develop the following:

A budget for your project, including personnel, administrative, outreach, and program costs, plus a percentage breakdown of each type of cost and an estimated cost per person that you expect to assist. Budget costs will be in current dollars.

A 5-year forward projection of your budget cost, using extrapolation of CPI values from 5 years that you will look up in a table.

A 5-year projection of a sponsorship amount; the sponsorship amount will be a given percentage of your 5-year budget projection and will accrue interest at a given APR.

A 5-year fundraising total that you expect to raise through monthly donations; the monthly donation amount and APR will be provided.

A 5-year loan payment calculation in which you calculate the monthly payment amount required to pay off monthly, over a period of 5 years, the difference between the cost of the project and the sum of your sponsorship and fundraising totals. (The loan would be taken out at the time the project is implemented.)

Financial formulas

The following formulas, given symbolically and in Excel format, may be useful for completing Major Assignment 3:

Compound interest formula: If an initial amount P grows at an annual rate r with n compoundings per year, then the value A of that amount after t years is given by the formula

A = P*(1+r/n)^(n*t)

Future value of periodic payments: If an amount P is contributed at the end of each of n periods per year for t years and the balance earns interest at an annual percentage rate of r, the total amount A accrued after t years is given by

A = P*((1+r/n)^(n*t)-1)/(r/n)

Loan payment formula: The amount PMT that must be paid n times per year for t years to pay off a loan principal amount of P at an APR of r is given by

PMT = P*(r/n)/(1 – (1 + r/n)^(-n*t))

Inflation rate formula: Given an old CPI value at one point and a new CPI value n years later, the n-year inflation rate IR is given by

IR = (new CPI – old CPI)/(old CPI)

I. Proposal (2-3 double spaced pages) should include:

For conducting an empirical research study:

a short synopsis of relevant research findings that frame your Research Questions

a statement of the problem you plan to investigate

a statement of the theory that frames your hypoethesis[es]

Your hypothesis that lists your Independent Variables (IV)s in relation to your Dependent Variable[s] ((DV[s]), including any hypothesized moderators or mediators that you plan to measure

A statement of how your IVs and DVs will be operationalized (what exactly are you going to observe from your participants and how will it be measured, succinctly and specifically)

Your plan for data collection

Your plan for data analysis (should take the form of a null hypothesis or comparison groups statistical test if quantitative, and data reduction, analysis and interpretation procedures for qualitative data), and your predicted results if applicable

For a design project:

a short synopsis of relevant research findings that frame the need for your Design Artifact

a short synopsis of how your Design Artifact addresses the need, with supporting literature (studies and theories) that you plan to rely on for its design

A plan for the potential implementation of your Design Artifact

A statement of what success looks like for your Design Artifact (how will you measure its effectiveness at addressing the identified problem?)

A detailed procedures section for how you will design the Artifact and present its design in your final project paper. (Will you build a computer program? A website? an App? A curriculum? A class? an Environment? Whatever you choose, we need a clear idea on how you will clearly communicate the characteristics of your product before you begin creating it — screenshots, a working website, a booklet of lesson plans, etc.).

For a literature review:

A short synopsis of relevant research findings and theory[ies]. that create the need for this review

A statement on the goals of this review given the identified problem

A plan of procedures (see a good meta-analysis paper for examples) for collecting the literature that you will review.

An outline of how your review will be organized (should be structured based on the problem identification research). You should integrate the findings with a theoretical framework

A statement on the relevant audience and potential uses for this literature review

(Note: if this is not deemed important enough by your advisor, you may need to include an empirical study or design artifact with your review).

II. Requirements and Structure

The format of your integrative project should be based on an APA formatted empirical research article and involve an original study or analysis of existing data, depending on your preference. Length is variable but remember that this is not a doctoral thesis, 15-30 pages is typical.

Below is a standard structure for the paper:

Introduction
Background/Literature Review
Method [sample, procedure, measures, results/analysis] Discussion/Implications
Conclusion
References (APA format citations)

Process and Timeline

If you’re working with someone other than your default advisor, notify us as soon as you have confirmed that decision. Even if you are working with a different faculty member you need to notify your default advisor when your final project is approved by your new advisor. Your default advisor is ultimately responsible for entering it in Degree Audit.

*Your proposal should be approximately 1-2 pages and include an outline of what you plan to do, the background rationale, and should all relevant citations. Your project proposal MUST be approved by your advisor before you begin writing the project.
**Once your advisor approves the final draft of your project, it will be entered into you Degree Audit

Things to keep in mind:

1. APA Style is required.
2. Your work should be original. Writing already submitted elsewhere (e.g., as coursework,

to a blog or for publication) may not be submitted for the Integrative Project. You may expand on previous work but be aware that re-submitting previous work is tantamount to plagiarism of oneself.

3. Students are expected to work independently for the majority of the project, advisors are meant to be used as mentors during the initial conceptualization of project and final feedback.

4. Expect rewrites of drafts. Organize your time accordingly to incorporate feedback when finalizing drafts.[supanova_question]

Sample Counterargument Paragraph
Counterclaim: Human Trafficking is a major problem in the world today. We can all help to end this problem by avoiding the purchase of products made by slaves. Reason: For example, I will challenge my audience to exclusively purchase fair-trade chocolate and boycott all chocolate producers that cannot guarantee their products are slave-free.
Evidence: One person is not enough to make a difference. Changing my personal purchasing habits will not be enough to affect the profits of major companies. Thus, there is no reason for me to pay more for my chocolate since it won’t make a difference.
Rebuttal: While it is true that one individual alone will only have a minor impact on the profits of major chocolate companies, we should never underestimate the power of an individual. Your purchases make only a small difference, but they still make a difference. Furthermore, we cannot forget the impact our actions have on others. Your dedication to becoming part of the solution will inspire others to do the same. Together we can make a difference. But before we can become a group, we must be dedicated individuals. Evidence: As Margaret Mead once said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

1.Pick one or more of the following topics: risk preferences (prospect theory) or heuristics and biases / behavioral finance.
2.Think of a historical event that can be understood through the lens of the topic you chose in (1).
3.What behavioral policy recommendations would you give in this context?
The format of the essay is the following. In the first paragraph briefly state the historical event of your choice and the behavioral topic you will use to analyze this event.

Then, you need to explain in detail the historical event, giving enough historical, economic, and/or socio-political context. Please cite properly any documents you use to perform this research, using the format of your choice.

Once you have given a full context and presentation of the historical event, please explain how we could revisit it through the lens of the behavioral topic you choose. You have to be thorough in this part. That is, explain clearly what are the behavioral tools we have to understand the event and how to shift our perspective about this event using these tools. Make sure you highlight the new lessons we can learn by doing this exercise.

Finally, please think of possible policy recommendations based on the behavioral understanding of this event. That is, if you suggest that certain events were due to specific behavioral anomalies, explain what actions governments / policy makers / society can take to make better decisions and to get better outcomes, given these behavioral anomalies

This needs to be a serious work, well documented (researched), you need to show mastery of the topics, and the policy recommendations need to be well thought of. You can use existing documents, research papers, etc, to introduce and document the historical event of your choice, but remember to cite your sources properly because we will be using software that checks for plagiarism. We want to see original work.[supanova_question]

Tesla Company

Tesla is an automobile company based in America specializing in electric vehicles and renewable sources of energy generation and storage. Tesla has its headquarters in California, United States. Elon Musk is the founder and the Chief Executive Officer of the company. The company uses a logo showing a cross-section of an electric vehicle as to the symbol of the organization. The main products for Tesla include electric vehicles, batteries, and solar panels. Currently, the shares of the company are trading at $4.95 (Kim, 2020). the company is growing and expanding its production quantity to meet the prevailing demand for electric vehicles. The mission of the company is to be the leading provider in the automobile industry. The company has the vision of providing ecologically viable vehicles which are tailored to environmental sustainability and enhancing the livelihood of people through providing affordable vehicles (Pow, 2019). The marketing reports of the company indicates an increased demand in the electric vehicle which is an indication of positive response towards Tesla Company.

New Product Idea

Despite the good performance from Tesla Company, there is a need to advance on reducing cost and application of renewable technology in the manufacturing of the environmentally friendly vehicle. A hydrogen technology vehicle would be the best technology to fit the Tesla Company in diversifying several products that best meet the preferences of the customers, there is a need to adopt another sustainable technology in the manufacture of the Tesla vehicles.

Hydrogen vehicles will apply the technology of utilizing water as the source of energy instead of electricity. The water will be burned to produce hydrogen and oxygen molecules. The separation of the molecules will produce energy that will be utilized in moving the vehicle. The molecules will thus be condensed again to form water which will be recycled for the same purpose. The energy needed to steer the vehicle will be generated from water and the cooling system will help in recycling the water. The technology will thus apply very cheap and affordable input.

The maintenance of hydrogen technology vehicles will be very affordable as they will utilize the most available resources. Tesla Company should incorporate such technology in the manufacturing of its vehicles linked to environmental sustainability. Adopting the hydrogen technology will help in dealing with the effectiveness of electric waves which are dangerous when exposed to the environment (Liu, & Meng, 2017). The use of natural and renewable sources will be of great benefit in enhancing environmental conservation and sustainability.

The competitive advantage realizable in using the new product is in its affordability and minimized running cost. The user will not incur expenses in source the energy generator once they purchase the car. The electricity may be slightly expensive and sometimes may fail as opposed to readily available water. Another competitiveness realizable in the new product is that it promotes environmental conservation. The conformity to the ecological regulations being imposed on the automobile industry may positively impact the adoption of the technology as it promotes environmental sustainability.

The challenge in adopting the new product will be the execution of the innovation. Getting the right technology that will enhance the process may be challenging. More study is required in coming up with ways to put the idea into operation through assembling the right resources and skills. The initial cost may also be too high such that it may discourage the potential buyers.

Psychopathic personality is a concept that originated in the 19th century. It is moral insanity attributed to several deficiencies in the brain that lead to undesired behaviors and violence. Most of such individuals lack natural feelings, which include a lack of respect and irresponsibility. They are thus unable to restrain themselves from behaviors that are unacceptable socially.

Prichard is a serial killer psychopath. He reigns from Texas. He has been pointed due to various occurrences linked to gunning of individuals in the streets. To most people, Prichard, and others of his likeness make people have a morbid curiosity about how their minds work. According to various studies, serial killers tend to have been brought in in unstable homes. Born on December 25, 1996, he was exposed to an environment that was harsh for him as a young boy. His parents divorced, and later his father chose the stepmother over him. This anger is what triggered the personality.

There exist different crime scenes attributed to such people. However, Prichard has had different motives attributed to his reasons for killing his victims. Psychopaths like Prichard are stereotyped. They are said to be stereotyped as violent and vicious.

It is important to share the antisocial disorder that most psychopathic people have. Bad behavior among the public can set a clear picture of what the people should expect before it happens. Their brains process issues so differently. It closes their emotional development, making them think less straight as expected. They have a different perspective about pain, and they do not fear it. Releasing such a profile is important for awareness. On the other, it becomes bad if the issues at hand are under police investigation. Such release to the public may interfere with ongoing investigations.[supanova_question]

4-1 Milestone Four: Financial Analyses and Funding

The success in implementing a project largely depends on the quality of the financial plan, which addresses budgets and other finance-related information required in completing a project. The purpose of performing a financial analysis is to evaluate the viability of a project and whether it is profitable enough to warrant monetary investment. Nike, Inc. is a reputable global brand with years of experience in offering quality products and services. It is a highly profitable multibillion-dollar multinational corporation. Previous analyses ascertain the enterprise’s readiness in terms of personnel, resources, and vision. Nonetheless, an in-depth financial analysis that looks into budget, assets and liabilities, funding, and cost of capital is critical in determining Nike’s readiness to venture into a new initiative.

Budget

A budget details where a company will spend its resources on its future projects. According to Foster (2017), a budget outlines the revenues and expenditures that drive critical business decisions. Some of the decisions may include cutting expenses, increasing marketing, purchasing equipment, improving efficiency, or hiring more staff (Foster, 2017). Therefore, as far as the implementation plan is concerned, the budget will play a critical role in serving as an action plan for allocating resources, evaluating performance, and formulating vital plans. The budget essentially highlights the financial and operational goals of the project. It will govern the implementation process of the project.

The budget for Nike’s proposed project is as illustrated in Appendix I. The budget gives an accurate picture of the fixed and variable costs to be incurred to complete the project. According to the prepared budget, Nike will be required to incur $9,625 to actualize the proposed idea for the coming fiscal year. The budget will play two critical functions. First, serve as the basis for allocation of resources and secondly, assess specific areas of operations needed to make the project a success (Foster, 2017). For instance, the company will need to invest significantly higher in materials and warehousing.

The project’s financial plan also covers cash flow, projected income statement, and forecasted sales. As indicated in Appendix II, the project is expected to generate $48.5 billion in revenues. The estimated figure is subject to past sales patterns and trends, market conditions, and prevailing events. Shoes will form the biggest percentage of the revenues at 21.65%, followed by hoodies and tracksuits at 16.6% and 15.63%, respectively. A sale of $48.5 billion will increase from the previous year and one of the highest sales. However, the company is expected to spend more than half its revenues at $29.6 billion, shown in Appendix III.

A cash flow statement also forms a critical part of the financial analysis. As Soboleva et al. (2018) explain, cash flow analysis is concerned with how a business generates and spends money over a specified period. It provides an accurate picture of where the money goes and how much money is available at any given moment. According to the proposed cash flow statement, as shown in Appendix IV, Nike is expected to generate significantly more than the company will spend in the coming fiscal year despite massive investment into the forthcoming project. The money available at the end of the year can be channelled into other critical projects. This shows that the project will be profitable enough to contribute to the company’s financial health.

Assessment of Asset and Liabilities

Asset and liability assessment is concerned with a firm’s ability to minimize the risk of loss from not settling its debts on time. More specifically, as Owusu and Alhassan (2021) put it, the analysis of assets and liabilities looks into liquidity risk and funding management as far as projects are concerned. Usually, when a company applies for a loan or external funding, say from a financial institution, its vulnerability to liquidity risk is evaluated. Kondor and Vayanos (2019) define liquidity risk as a type of financial risk where a company cannot meet its real or perceived obligations. Liquidity risks threaten the financial position of a firm.

Liquidity risk is indicated by various ratios. The common liquidity ratios that apply to Nike and are relevant to the proposed project include current, acid-test, and cash ratios. These ratios can be derived from Nike’s current balance sheet in Appendix V. As Chiaramonte and Casu (2017) explain, the current ratio measures its ability to fulfil its debts within one year of current assets. It is determined by dividing current assets by current liabilities. The higher the ratio, the better the ability for a company to pay off its debts (Chiaramonte & Casu, 2017). Therefore, with a current ratio of 2.72, Nike is in good financial health because it can meet its debts easily.

The Acid-test ratio measures a firm’s ability to meet its short-term liabilities by converting assets into cash Chiaramonte and Casu (2017). It is calculated by subtracting inventories from current assets and then dividing the product by current liabilities. A higher ratio indicates good financial health (Chiaramonte & Casu, 2017). However, a much higher acid-test ratio may indicate that an organisation has excessive accounts receivable owed but uncollected. Nike has an acid-test ratio of 2, indicating good financial health.

The cash ratio determines if a company can satisfy its short-term liabilities with cash and cash equivalent. It is calculated by dividing cash and cash equivalent by current liabilities (Chiaramonte & Casu, 2017). With a cash ratio of 1.02, Nike can pay 102% of its present liabilities with its cash and cash equivalents. The ratios derived from the company’s asset and liabilities assessment show that Nike is not constrained funding. The company can obtain funding for the upcoming projects at reasonable costs from a reliable financial institution or other sources.

Sources of Funding

Businesses are often needed to raise funding, sometimes externally, to expand operations, R&D, or invest in an idea. Sources of funding vary; a company can generate finances internally or seek external assistance. The common and available sources of funding for companies include retained earnings, debt capital, and equity. Retained earnings are the most primary method to channel funds for new projects. However, this is not always the case. Companies often use retained earnings to reward their shareholders in terms of dividends or share buybacks. The reason for this is to attract investors through stockholder incentives. Therefore, retained earnings may not be readily available to fund the project.

Companies can finance their operations through debt capital. Debt capital can either be private or public. Private debt refers to credit offered through bank loans, for example. Debt issues, also referred to as bonds, are public debts; they allow members of the public to become a company’s creditors. Debt capital, especially loans, are easier and faster to secure. However, they come at a cost. Such capital is also secured against a form of security. Alternatively, a company can also acquire funding by selling an ownership stake in the form of shares. The process involves raising capital by issuing shares to be bought by members of the public who then become shareholders (owners) upon purchasing shares.

Therefore, the options of funding the project lie between debt capital and equity. Cornelius (2020) study offers criteria for selecting the most suitable source of funding depending on a company’s financial needs and the prevailing situation. The pros of debt financing include not compromising company ownership, faster to secure, and can be to plan since loans are flexible. However, they must be repaid and can increase a company’s financial risk. The advantage of equity financing is the ability to improve a company’s financial health. However, ownership is often given up in the process. Therefore, considering the nature of the project, it is reasonable to secure short-term debt.

Cost of Attaining Capital

According to the annual budget, Nike will need to secure a loan of $3.8 billion for the project. The true cost of credit is the original amount, otherwise known as the principal, and the associated interests spread across the entire term of the loan. For example, a loan of $10,000 issued at an interest rate of 12% and a maturity period of ten months will cost $12,000 in interest (12% x 10,000 x 10). This means that the borrower will repay a total of $22,000 at the end of the ten months. Therefore, Nike will incur more than $3.8 billion if it raises the amount through credit financing.

Currently, lending interest rates in the United States is 3.75%. Suppose Nike secures a loan at the current market interest over the next four years, the cost of funding will be determined as follows:

Conclusion

Financial analysis is critical in determining the feasibility of a project. The previous analysis looked at other aspects such as resource availability, personnel readiness, and the willingness of the management to exploit new opportunities. The need for the project is ascertained by the pressure for the company to cement its leadership position in the current sports apparel industry. Therefore, the financial analysis and funding provide an accurate picture of the project’s financial needs, risks, goals, sources, and projections. According to the analysis, the project is expected to boost the company’s revenues and overall probability. However, it requires enormous financing to be secured through a loan which comes at a considerable cost.

Milestone 2

Section 1

The continual flow of carbon atoms from the atmosphere to the ground and back is known as the carbon cycle. Water evaporates from the earth’s surface, rises into the sky, cools and condenses in clouds as rain or snow, and finally falls to the ground as precipitation. Plants are employed in the water cycle to collect water from the surface and transpire it into the atmosphere. The carbon cycle relies on plants to absorb CO2 and remove it from the atmosphere (Steffen 57). A study team used NASA satellite data to estimate that Hurricane Katrina killed or seriously damaged 320 million big trees in Gulf Coast forests, reducing the woods’ ability to store carbon from the atmosphere. The storm surge blew through the levees that protect New Orleans from Lake Ponchartrain and the Mississippi River. Hurricane Katrina also wreaked havoc on the Mississippi and Alabama coastlines.

Section 2

The lithosphere is the earth’s rocky outer layer, consisting of the brittle crust and the topmost portion of the mantle. The hydrosphere is a planet’s total amount of liquid, vapour, or frozen water. Rain (hydrosphere) falls from the sky to the lithosphere, producing streams and rivers that supply drinking water and water for plant development to wildlife and humans (biosphere). River activity erodes riverbank banks (lithosphere) and uproots vegetation (biosphere). The water sucked into the air by the cyclone evaporated, resulting in high humidity (Steffen 59). With all of the increased water levels, Hurricane Katrina caused channels and lakes to overflow. Many animals were harmed due to the flood, which released very hazardous waste products and toxins into the seas.

Section 3

The flooding in New Orleans caused by Hurricane Katrina was an artificial catastrophe, not a natural disaster. The city’s flood-protection system was poorly constructed and maintained. In summary, a multi-level critical infrastructure collapse nearly killed one of America’s major cities. When Hurricane Katrina hit, many homeowners were criticized for their “choice” to stay in their houses for the duration of the disaster (Weill 1112). They did not run, however, since they were reckless. They lacked the financial resources to look for new accommodations. They could not go since they did not have any means of transportation. The volume of water left behind in New Orleans was the primary health consequence of Hurricane Katrina. The most severe worries were West Nile virus outbreaks, mould, and increasing endotoxin levels.

Section 4

Hurricane Katrina formed over the southern Bahamas on August 23rd, 2005, as Tropical Depression Twelve resulted from a tropical wave mixing with the remnants of Tropical Depression Ten-four days earlier. The storm developed into Tropical Storm Katrina on August 24th. New Orleans is vulnerable to three types of floods due to its particular geography. Flooding from the Mississippi River, storm surges from Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne to the east, and significant rain-induced flooding in the city due to inadequate drainage (Johnson 143). Because of its location in a river delta, the city is susceptible to flooding and sea-level rise. According to NASA research from 2016, sections of New Orleans are sinking at a pace of 2 inches per year, putting them on course to be submerged by 2100.

Milestone 1

Section 1

Hurricane Katrina is the specific danger being examined in this milestone. Hurricane Katrina (category 5) hit the United States in late August 2005 as an intense Category 5 Atlantic hurricane. At the time, it was the most expensive tropical cyclone on record, and it is now tied with Hurricane Harvey from 2017. Most people in the United States are familiar with Hurricane Katrina (Brunkard et al., 215). Storm Katrina was a Category 5 hurricane when it impacted Miami, Florida, in 2005, but it was downgraded to a Category 3 when it reached Louisiana. Estimates have the death toll at 1,200, with the overall cost of devastation at $108 billion. Hurricane Katrina is the most expensive hurricane in U.S. history because of this. The town is still dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane.

Section 2

Katrina formed as a tropical depression over the Bahamas. After intensifying and becoming more structured, the tropical depression developed into a tropical storm with wind gusts between 39 and 73 mph. Hurricane Katrina blew a hole in New Orleans’ levee system, which protected it from Lake Ponchartrain and the Mississippi River. On the coastlines of Mississippi and Alabama, Hurricane Katrina also inflicted extensive devastation (Brunkard et al. 218). Floodwaters deposit silt along riverbanks, creating natural levees.

Hurricane Katrina had a significant impact on the environment. Due to flames and heavy floods, Hurricane Katrina destroyed many animal habitats and many human houses. The hurricane killed many trees, plants, animals, and humans. Katrina’s winds eroded the beaches of the Bahamas, affecting the lithosphere. The top layer of the lithosphere was harmed by debris from roof shingles and other left objects (Brunkard et al., 221) outdoors. Uprooted trees and different plant life also cause lithospheric damage during the hurricane. Hazardous chemicals leaked into the ground and water as the cyclone hit.

Section 3

The frequency of hurricanes may rise due to climate change, but their severity and consequences are projected to increase due to warmer ocean temperatures and rising sea levels. Stronger hurricanes will cause considerably more damage and death if coastal (and inland) regions are not robust. As sea levels rise, future coastal storms, especially hurricanes, are expected to be more catastrophic. In low- and moderate-emission scenarios, sea level is expected to grow 1-4 feet globally on average during the next century, intensifying coastal storm surge. As sea surface temperatures rise, tropical storm winds might become more powerful, causing more damage if they hit land (Osofsky et al. 58). A rise in hurricanes of Category 4 and 5 is expected, according to NOAA’s sophisticated modeling. According to the National Hurricane Center, storms are anticipated to deliver 10-15% more precipitation as ocean temperatures increase under a 2 degree C scenario.

Section 4

The expected range for 2021 is 13-20 storms which have a wind speed of 39 mph. This means that 6-10 hurricanes with wind speeds of 74mph or higher and 3-5 major hurricanes are possible. NOAA offers these ranges with a 70 percent confidence level. Hurricane season in the United States runs from June through November. According to NOAA, “an above-normal season has a 60% possibility of occurring, a 30% risk of occurring near-normally, and a 10% chance of occurring below-normally.”

Core Competencies

Core competencies, abilities, skills, and defining services and products help organizations have business advantages over other players within a specific industry. In essence, they are elements that can only be provided by a company and cannot be replicated by other industry players. Nike’s key competencies are diversity, efficiency in the distribution of products, quality production, research and development, and global brand recognition (Seram et al., 2019). Nike also boasts of having strong customer loyalty and satisfaction, which are attained through good public relations. The company also boasts great marketing, investing in athletes from different parts of the globe to enhance awareness. The competencies support the implementation of the dynamic business model.

The dynamism model complements the implementation of the global presence competency. With the dynamic and versatility model, the company can retain its global presence and dominance by leveraging entry into new markets. Essentially, the dynamic model pushes for constant adjustment to meet the changing nature of the market (Seram et al., 2019). With this model, the company can change its products and services to fit new demands in the global market. Consequently, adapting to the evolving demands will provide high competitiveness over companies that remain rigid to changes. In the end, Nike Inc. will be a global force due to its ability to incorporate customer needs under the dynamic model.

The second competency, product quality, can also be implemented through the dynamic and versatility model. Under this new model, Nike Inc. has to ensure rapid changes that meet customer demands. The model also makes the company more committed to meeting quality demands in the market (Seram et al., 2019). For instance, under the old model, it was difficult for the company to adjust poorly designed products because of the rigidity in its model. However, under the current paradigm, any quality drops can be adjusted through redesign and re-launch. Quality is one of the most influential market determinants in the sporting shoe industry. In this case, athletes and other clients want products that promise longevity. Nike Inc. must therefore remain committed to the provision of quality products by meeting customer demands and adjusting any complaints from the customer ends. With high-quality standards, the company can retain its competitiveness under the quality paradigm.

The new model will also be fundamental in ensuring the sustainability of the customer loyalty competency. Under the new model, customer loyalty will be enhanced through improvements in the quality of products and a reduction in the cost of products. Essentially, the new model will reduce operational costs; hence, the company can translate the reduction in product pricing (Seram et al., 2019). Additionally, the model will improve quality, thus increasing the chances of better customer satisfaction and loyalty. Therefore, with high customer loyalty, Nike Inc. will be assured of its competitiveness in the sports shoe industry.

The diversity competency will be enhanced through the implementation of the dynamic model. In essence, the model proposes the adjustment of all the processes to improve diversity. The only way to ensure dynamism is through the employment of new talents from diverse backgrounds. With the new talents, the company can ensure diversity in its products by making shoes that reflect diverse cultural needs and beliefs (Seram et al., 2019). Diversity is also an essential marketing tool under the current global paradigm, where consumer behavior studies indicate customers are more likely to be attached to brands that embrace diversity. With diversity, the company can also reach larger markets by invoking recognition or a sense of belonging among its customers. The dynamic approach pushes a shift from the traditional products that were dominated by the mainstream culture. The new approach advocates for the use of different production approaches to maximize production and harness more customers.

Finally, the model also promotes Nike’s research and innovation competency. Globally, Nike is known for its investment in innovation by funding new talents and scholarship programs. The dynamism model is characterized by the desire to be in constant change. Nike must ensure adaptability to new customer demands and trends in the sports shoe industry. The only way to implement the model is through increased investment in research and innovation (Seram et al., 2019). With this new model, the company must always develop new products, which only be achieved through investment in innovation. Nike’s bid for innovativeness and research under the new model can be achieved by hiring promising talents to take positions in the production and design departments. With new talents, the company can always innovate quality products, thus retaining the company’s image for higher investment in research and innovation. Investment in research will also promote idea development as the company aims to get new ideas for product changes every few years or months.

Corporate Culture

Corporate is also a key area of consideration during the design and implementation of new business concepts. It refers to the behaviors and beliefs, which determine the interaction between employees and the management. Corporate culture also dictates how various activities are conducted and how external business transactions are completed. Essentially, corporate culture is only developed through employees and corporate management’s cumulative behavioral traits and trends (Li et al., 2021). With the right corporate cultures, companies can easily overcome barriers to the implementation of new strategies. Corporate culture also symbolizes the uniqueness of organizations in the expression of core values, beliefs, ethics, or behaviors.

Nike Inc. must incorporate its best corporate culture to ensure new personnel adapts easily to the new paradigm in implementing the dynamism and versatility business model. Under the dynamism and versatility approach, the best corporate culture that can be adopted should be innovation, creativity, and diversity (Li et al., 2021). In this case, the company’s corporate culture must ensure flexibility in operations by allowing employees to develop new designs beyond their job specifications. In every aspect, the company’s beliefs and behaviors must always focus on the promotion of innovativeness. With this corporate culture, Nike Inc. can always develop new products.

Diversity in Nike’s corporate culture should ensure that people from different regions and cultural backgrounds are incorporated in the design process. In this case, the company must first promote cultural awareness whereby all the employees must value the importance of diversity to the company. Nike Inc. should also promote diversity by pushing for equality in the representation of focus areas and goals. Under this paradigm, any investments by the company must reflect the diversity, enabling the employees and other stakeholders to understand its significance to the company’s sustainability. Diversity can also be achieved by adopting proactive recruitment strategies, prioritizing people from different backgrounds (Li et al., 2021). Through the recruitment strategy, diversity should be promoted by employing diverse talents and fairness in promotions transfers and other human resource roles. For instance, training and development programs should be distributed with equity to ensure that people from different cultural backgrounds are incorporated. With an emphasis on diversity, Nike Inc. can easily adopt the new strategy. Essentially, diversity will provide a wide pool of ideas that the company can leverage to ensure dynamism in the market.

Nike’s innovation and creativity elements of corporate culture are also fundamental in implementing and succeeding the dynamic business model. The dynamic business model enables competitive and strategic advantage by emphasizing the differentiation of business activities, products, and services (Li et al., 2021). Under this new model, Nike Inc. must invest heavily in new talents that promote creativity and innovation of new ideas. The dynamic business approach also demands that Nike Inc. always respond to customer needs and wants. In ensuring readiness, the company must always have a team that examines new trends to identify new needs and examine response mechanisms. In essence, the company must use its employee and technological resources to ensure dynamism.

The innovative culture can also be created through investment in new technologies. Through the use of technology, Nike Inc. can always improve its experimentation and tinkering processes. The application of emerging technologies can also equip the company with new ways of ensuring customer satisfaction. For instance, AI technologies can enhance the innovative culture by analyzing customer data to understand their behaviors and priorities (Li et al., 2021). In the end, such technologies provide the company with accurate information on areas of improvement and specifications that meet the current market demands. Therefore, leveraging technology and employee resources will be crucial for Nike Inc. to implement the dynamism business model under the innovation and creativity corporate culture.

Key Roles, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

Project Manager

The PM will have five key responsibilities in the implementation of the concept. The first task will be the initiation of the concept whereby they must collaborate with other organizational leaders for a successful implementation. In this area, the PM will consider funding, scope, and the requirements for a successful implementation. The planning responsibility will require the PM to create a concept management plan, which will guide the implementation team throughout the scope. The execution responsibility will involve ensuring that the project is completed without distractions, solving any conflicts that could arise, and facilitating teamwork. The PM will also be involved in monitoring and controlling. Under this responsibility, the PM must check if the concept met the initial KPIs and reached all the milestones. Finally, the PM must be involved in closing the concept after a successful implementation phase. During the closing ceremony, the PM should hand over all the responsibilities of the implementation team to the company’s management.

One of the primary roles of the PM is communication with the implementation team for clarity in the completion of tasks. The PM must also communicate with stakeholders, including Nike’s management. Team-building is also a crucial role of the PM, whereby they should create effective avenues for collaboration between different personnel. The PM must have a master’s degree in project management or business administration in terms of qualifications. They must also have more than five years of workplace management experience to understand the implementation phase better.

IT Manager

The IT manager will be involved in the coordination of all the IT activities in the concept implementation. The concept demands the application of IT skills in ensuring dynamism within Nike’s operations. The IT manager will also be responsible for creating synergy between the IT department and other areas within its organization. The main role of the IT manager will be the selection of the best IT technologies to be used in the implementation of the project. The IT manager will also help the company’s HR hire qualified IT personnel to implement the project successfully. Academic qualification for the job is that candidates must have a master’s of information communications or software engineering from an accredited university in the US. They should also have more than three years in IT management roles.

Business Analyst

Successful implementation of the concept will also require the input of a business analyst, whose main role will be to research how the concept can be enhanced for increased productivity. In this role, the business analysts will coordinate research activities to promote innovativeness and diversity. The analyst will also be involved in the introduction of new systems for efficient concept management. The business analysts will analyze any possible challenges and develop solutions on how to overcome them. The analyst should have a bachelor’s degree in business management or any field related to financing.

My Role in the Implementation Process

During the implementation process, my role will guide all the leaders on maximizing the project. In this case, my role will be mainly oversight, ensuring that all the departments coordinate towards the concept’s success. I must also ensure that the project is completed according to the initial conceptualization. For instance, I should guide HR in ensuring the recruitment of a diverse implementation team.

Contingency Plans

The first area of consideration in the contingency plan is a natural disaster that threatens the company’s operations. In this case, the central area of consideration is a shift of operations to another regional facility. The concept data must be stored with cloud backups to ensure resilience to disasters. Another contingency area is when the company receives many workers stating sickness or other unavoidable circumstances. The probability of such a risk happening is very high; hence the company must be prepared with an effective plan for replacement (Shi et al., 2019). In this case, the main responsibility should be calling other employees to replace their sick colleagues for their unscheduled shifts. Another area of response would be an adjustment of the project timelines. However, the implementation deadline should not be surpassed by more than three weeks to avoid delays resulting in detrimental market losses.

Power outages could also occur, resulting in delays in the company’s activities. However, there is a medium threat of such an activity threatening the project implementation success. In ensuring preparedness for the risk, the team must purchase an emergency power backup system like a generator. Network or system outages could also disrupt the team’s functionality (Shi et al., 2019). The systems and networks must have hot backups. If such an occurrence, the implementation team should escalate IT and switch the activities to backup systems.

Jack the Reaper is a psychopath. The triggers that can be associated with psychopathy include bad behavioral control, lack of empathy and callousness, preferring to live a parasitic lifestyle, and lacking guilt, and having shallow emotions. In Jack the Reaper’s background, the triggers present are callousness and lack of empathy. He was a killer and he felt no remorse for what he did. If jack was a sociopath, the triggers would be different. Triggers associated with sociopathy include impulsive acts, remorselessness, and irresponsibility.

Based on the triggers present, the risk factors would be childhood abuse, narcissism, poor parenting, and impulsivity. These factors relate to Jack the Reaper’s psychopathy in that growing up, he was probably exposed to a dysfunctional environment which led to the development of his psychopathic traits. He might also have been neglected or physically abused when he was a kid. Jack the reaper could also be a narcissist; narcissism is often associated with psychopathy.

When trying to obtain information from a psychopath, it is important to remain calm. Keeping a cool head is the best thing that one can do when communicating with a psychopath. It is important to take note that the person is disordered and to be emotionally ready as they might try to get under one’s skin (Cooke, 2018). Secondly, staying focused is essential. Attention should be maintained on what is important. Psychopaths try to use anything they can think of to distract one from catching up with their contradictory statements. Lastly, one should stand their ground because psychopaths do not like boundaries.

One of the communication skills that would not be effective when obtaining information from a psychopath is assertiveness. Being assertive can lead to one being sucked up in the psychopath’s drama (Cooke, 2018). They enjoy pushing the buttons; the best thing to do is to remain calm.

indicators and the business cycle will impact the firm.
You may pick a large or small firm. You can pick a for-profit

Just make sure you have a good understanding of the firm in
terms of their products, services, market share, etc…
It might be best to pick a public firm that you can easily look
up on the Internet. / These are the exact requirements by my professor. He also has a list of questions that should be answered. I want it to be on Apple. I don’t want it to be too good, like genius good. Just B good would be great. I am only sitting at a B in the class and don’t wanna sell myself out. The paper has to be written in MLA format with works cited. Here is the list of questions that follows. /

1) Identify the government agency or private company that
controls the economic indicator – who writes the reports?
2) How exactly is the economic indicator calculated and
organized? Is it based on solid and reliable statistical data or
are there flaws in either the process or the raw information?
3) What has happened to the economic indicator during the
past two years? Please find a graph or chart showing the
history of the indicator and paste it to your term paper.

5) What is your 12-month forecast for the economic indicator?
Why? What is your rationale?
6) Please conclude if your indicators are lagging, coincident or

the unemployment rate. Try to uncover a few relationships
9) Does your macroeconomic indicator have a heavy impact or

10) Given what you know – what recommendations would
you make to the firm’s senior management?
11) If you are dealing with a public company – do you feel
their stock is a good investment for the long-run? If you are
dealing with a private firm, would you invest your money?
12) Be creative – you’re free to add anything else of added
value. If you want to do a microeconomic analysis – go ahead.
If you want to add a personal interview you had with the
firm’s management, then please do so. Feel free to add

1. Navigating Organizations: Summary

Organizational Theory

Organizational theory has evolved from the historical perspectives of scientific management, bureaucratic theory, and administrative behavior theory to the more modern approaches of systems theory and contingency theory. The Hawthorne Studies contributed significantly to this evolution.

The result of this evolution is a basic organizational design involving vision/mission, structure, communication, decision making and problem solving, culture, and ethics. We have looked at each of these elements throughout the course and found that organizations must have a structure defined so the efforts of the members of the organization can be coordinated. The structure further indicates and supports how communication flows throughout the organization. Decision making and problem solving are specific types of communication which occur regularly throughout any organization. Lastly, organizational culture informs the members what behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable, and embodies the organization’s ethics.

Leadership

The activities of organizations must be guided by leadership and, as we discovered, leadership can be defined as position, person, result, and/or process.

Position-based leadership is derived from where a person operates, and generally comes with a form of authority within a formal hierarchy.

Person-based leadership is derived from who a person is and emphasizes the person’s character.

Results-based leadership is derived from what leaders do and the results they achieve.

Process-based leadership is derived from what leaders do and how they do it. It focuses on relationships.

It is important to note that the four bases of leadership are not mutually exclusive. It is possible for leaders to lead from more than one base.

Regardless of how leadership is defined, as we learned from the Leadership Foundations video there are numerous approaches to leadership. Some of them are (click the cards to learn more):

Organizational theory and leadership work together to achieve organizational success. Organizational theories point to the following as important elements (Gitman et al., 2018).

1. Meaningful work
The design of an organization, its structure and communication paths facilitated by effective leadership, will make the work that needs to be done meaningful to the organization’s members.

2. Hand-on management
An organizational structure and its communication paths should be such that leadership is evident and available to all members of the organization.

3. Positive work environment
Meaningful work and hands-on management lead to a positive work environment within the organization.

4. Growth opportunity
The elements of an organization (vision/mission, structure, communication, decision making and problem solving, culture, and ethics) should work together to not only cultivate a positive work environment but provide growth opportunities for its members.

5. Trust in leadership
Effective organizations have trusted leadership who create and sustain the organization’s effectiveness. This requires navigating through organizational change. Two models of organizational change are Kotter’s 8-step Change Model and Kurt Lewin’s Force Field Analysis, which were covered in previous modules.

Compensation and Benefits: Endothon Task

Quick Start Guide

Task Overview: Use the task template provided in the course to discuss revising a company’s current job-value structure and pay policy.

It is not necessary to cite sources that are provided within the task documents, unless quoted. If you are using outside sources, the submission must be cited and include a reference page.

Note: No more than a combined total of 30% of a submission can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly.

Job Value Structure

Print and read the directions.

Print and read the rubric to assure you understand what is being asked.

Print the attachments found in the “Supporting Documents:”

Product Sales Representative Job Description

Market Rewards Survey

Read Topic 2.4: Total rewards Strategy and Topic 3.4: Job Descriptions.

Review the Brand Manager Job Description and Product Sales Representative Job Description, noting:

What level of responsibility do these positions have?

How demanding are the qualifications?

Review the Market Rewards Survey, noting:

Positions similar to the three new positions

Salary data

Use the task template to draft your response to task prompts:

Prompt A. Revise the Current Job-Value Structure to enable internal equity by doing the following:

Update the salary information for the 20 current employees, as necessary.

Add in the three new positions, one brand manager and two product sales representatives, with their anticipated salaries.

Prompt A1. Justify the salaries and placement of the three new positions, one brand manager and two product sales representatives, within the revised job-value structure.

Pay Grades and Ranges

Read Topic 6: Integrated Reward Structures.

Review the Market Rewards Survey.

Optional Review: Additional salary survey information (i.e. the Web Links in the directions).

Use the task template to draft your response to task prompts:

Prompt B. Based on your revised job-value structure, create a pay grade and ranges table that includes all 23 positions. You must have a minimum of 3 pay grades (a separate pay grade for each position is not permissible).

In creating your pay structure, you are creating a hierarchy. Your partners (executive level) will be at the top of the structure. No position makes more money than the partners or is in the same pay grade with the partners.

To create your pay grade and ranges table, you will group positions into pay grades based on the market value of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and responsibilities of the position and the importance of the position to Endothon.

All positions must be placed in a pay grade where the pay of the positions falls somewhere between the minimum and maximum of the pay grade.

As you create your pay grades, make sure that the Principle of Overlap (Topic 6.6) and the Principle of Consistency/Progression is applied to each pay grade within your pay grade and ranges table.

The Principle of Overlap states that the maximum of the lower pay grade (Pay Grade 1) is higher than the minimum of the pay grade directly above it (Pay Grade 2). For example:

Pay Grade

Minimum

Mid-Point

Maximum

4

3

2

$55,000

$75,000

$95,000

1

$20,000

$40,000

$60,000

The Principle of Consistency/Progression states that the pay grade span, the dollar amount between the minimum and maximum of the pay grade is consistent, or it gets larger. In the example above, pay grade 1 and 2 are consistent. Both have a $40,000 ($60,000-$20,000=$40,000) span in the pay grades. This means that the next pay grade (Pay Grade 3 in this case) must be at least $40,000 or higher. In a competitive market, more money may be needed in the pay grade span to be competitive. Then the pay grades would get progressively higher. If I need more money, and make Pay Grade 3, $50,000, then the next pay grade, Pay Grade 4 must be at least $50,000 or higher. I cannot have a higher pay grade with a lower pay span. For example, Salary Grade 6 could not be $40,000.

Review Endothon’s Original Pay Grade and Ranges Table as an example (found on page 4 of this Quick Start Guide).

Prompt B1. Describe a strategy to address salaries in the Current Job-Value Structure that might fall outside the proposed ranges in your pay grade and ranges table. Note: Provide your strategies for above and below the ranges. If you do not have any salaries that fall outside of the proposed ranges, state that you currently do not have any salaries that fall outside of the proposed ranges.

Prompt B2. Justify the pay grades and ranges in your table, commenting on attraction and retention strategies.

Variable Pay

Read Topic 9: Performance-based Pay: System Types

Use the task template to draft your response to task prompt:

Prompt C. Select three pay grades and identify one different variable pay option for each of those pay grades, explaining how the variable pay option you selected will motivate employees in each specific pay grade.

Review & Edit Your Documents:

Ensure you have cited any quotes or outside sources within your document and on a “References” page.

Thoroughly review your paper to catch any mistakes.

Check for errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Make sure your thoughts are well articulated (clearly presented and well organized).

Read through the student evaluation rubric to ensure you covered all of the required elements.

Check your Originality Report to ensure that you have a score of 30% or less (directly quoted or closely paraphrased).

Most common reasons tasks are returned for revision:

Insufficient detail

Lack of specificity

Lack of application of the Principle of Overlap or Principle of Consistency/Progression.

Submit your completed document to evaluation.

Waterbury, CT 06706

Dear hiring manager,

I am interested in the position for case management and social worker.

I possess a broad background in social work, special education, nursing, retail, health insurance, and business managements. I have worked within a variety of settings with diverse individuals providing me with numerous and valuable experiences. My career has given me the ability to independently conduct assessments and provide help to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds.

My ability to utilize community resources and provide education to those in need is essential for a social worker. Thinking outside the box in order to meet any unique needs that may come up unexpectedly require an immediate reassessment and prompt action to execute. Being able to think fast on your feet is part of the advance skills I bring to the table. Throughout my career, I have collaborated with care coordinators and other professionals such as behavioral therapist, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist, school psychologist, nurses, case managers and spiritual care.

I have evaluated the social and emotional needs of families to determine the types of social work services needed.

My career has allowed me to complete a range of advanced social work methods with families, individuals and groups demonstrating my mature skills in case work with even the most difficult clients and their families. I am also proficient in collaborating with the relevant interdisciplinary teams, committees and utilizing community resources to most appropriately meet the needs of the clientele.

While my resume and credentials attest to my professional qualifications, I have many additional personal experiences that support my knowledge and sensitivity. I offer commitment, excitement, organization, passion, and professionalism: qualities that are necessary for providing leadership and promoting a positive work environment and client relationship.

After you have had a chance to review my employment history and responsibilities, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss further the positions you are hiring for.

Warmly,

Emily Rose Arroyo[supanova_question]

Emerging Supervision Models for Global Issues Manual The context of social work

Emerging Supervision Models for Global Issues Manual

The context of social work practice is dynamic and complex; new populations and needs appear without warning, often fueled by larger issues at play on state, national, or international levels. Stepping into the role of an agency administrator or clinical supervisor, you will develop a chapter for a manual of best practices in social work focused on global perspectives.

Instructions

This is a two-part assignment. In the first part, you will:

Analyze your supervision strategies, commenting on how they align with your current leadership skills and preferences.

Write a 4–6 page chapter for a manual of social work best practices and identify an emerging intervention model (it may be one you have already discussed):

Briefly describe the model and its target population.

Explain clearly for supervisees how a particular cutting-edge intervention is informed by and impacts global issues such immigration, technology, and poverty, in a clinical setting.

Explain which leadership and supervision skills you will bring to bear to address the emerging intervention of your choice.

Develop guidelines based on your individually identified supervision strategies for your staff to use when considering global issues such as immigration, technology, and poverty in assessment and intervention at all levels.

For the second part of the assignment, review the Northouse text, Leadership: Theory and Practice (8th ed.) from SWK8025. In the context of that and your current leadership skills and preferences, (MY PREFERENCE IS SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP) in 4–6 pages:

Describe supervision models aligned to your leadership style.

Address the challenges you, as a supervisor, will face in leading and supervising this emerging intervention model.

Additional Requirements

Include 5–7 scholarly articles to support your work.

Ensure content of submission totals 8–10 pages.

Write content clearly and logically, with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.

Correctly format paper, citations, and references using current edition APA style and format.[supanova_question]

Explain the differences between cost-utility analysis (CUA) and cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and which you think would be more appropriate. Explain the differences between cost-utility analysis (CUA) and cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and which you think would be more appropriate.

Explain the differences between cost-utility analysis (CUA) and cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and which you think would be more appropriate for an evaluation of a public health intervention targeted at year 10 pupils (age 15-16) at risk of alcohol misuse and to be delivered in schools. Your answer should identify ONE relevant public health intervention (see below) for the specified population and health need, in ONE country (United States). The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends the use of quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) to quantify the effectiveness of health care interventions and a health and social care perspective. In contrast, analysts are recommended to take a wider societal perspective in the evaluation of public health interventions; options for the economic analysis of public health interventions include cost-utility analysis (CUA) and cost-benefit analysis (CBA). Make references to the following publications:NICE (2018). Guide to the processes of technology appraisal.https://www.nice.org.uk/process/pmg19/chapter/forewordNICE (2012). Methods for the development of NICE public health guidance [Chapter 6].https://www.nice.org.uk/process/pmg4/chapter/incorporating-health-economicsYour choice of intervention and context are important in as far as they frame the discussion of CUA versus CBA. Keep the explanation of the intervention brief, including only the information necessary to justify the choices relevant to the economic evaluation. Your main focus and thus the bulk of the essay, should be on providing a sound and reasoned argument for the application of the chosen economic evaluation approach. Use tables and figures to illustrate relevant data.

The intervention is: In the United States, Boston Public High School has put in place Alcohol Education and Training Sessions, delivered 3 times a week, as an intervention method targeted towards students aged 15-16 at risk of alcohol misuse.[supanova_question]

Write an overview regarding the types of patients seen on the unit, top 5 DRGS (or HHRG’s if Home Care), severity of patient illness, average length of stay, per cent unit occupancy and model of care delivery.

Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG’s) is a system that categorizes patients into specific groups based on their medical conditions and other characteristics, such as age, and type of surgery. Payment is fixed and not dependent on treatment. They type of patients seen in Sing Sing infirmary have acute medical diagnosis such as recovery from viral illnesses, s/p recovery from assaults, asthma exacerbations, diabetic monitoring, s/p surgery, s/p chemotherapy, or they could be waiting for placement in a facility that better suites their needs. The average length of stay varies from 3 days to a few months, depending on treatment needs. If long term therapy is needed, we would look to transfer to another facility. The unit census varies on seasons, mood of the facility (h/o gang violence), and the age of transfers into the facility (older patients typically have more comorbidities). The Infirmary is based on med-surg experience. LPN’s deliver medication and assist RN’s. RN’s assess patient’s, transcribe MD orders, admit and discharge patient’s and are responsible for charting.

Provide the financial justification for the cost of the delivery of nursing care.

Nursing care is the foundation on which the service is based on. Licensed personnel, medical supplies and supporting staff are essential to provide the service.

What is the budgeted unit census, HPPD, skill mix, RN to patient ratio in the budget you developed?

See staff by type and shift

The budget is based on 20 patients, the unit would have to be staffed whether there was one patient or 20. Acuity varies according to patient care needed, and LPN and RN skills are defined by their license.

How do you assure that the budget is flexible enough to meet the nursing care delivery needs of the patients?

Managers must understand how staff uses their time, and look for unaccounted factors in the existing budget. This will help forecast and plan future budgets.

Project 1

Point of View Project

Learning Outcomes Addressed

1. Students will gain the knowledge to articulate the difference between design thinking, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and possess a shared vocabulary for the process elements of each. LO1

Students will be able to demonstrate skills for formation of effective teams and practices for team culture development that respect diversity. LO3

Introduction

Innovation and Entrepreneurship students are required to create a Point of View (POV) Statement. The project in total is worth 20% of the overall grade for this course. This is a team project.

The Challenge

For this project, pick a problem to solve in an organization you know (for example, your college campus, a company you have worked for, or a volunteer organization). Use the design thinking skills that you learned to identify a specific pain point for customers/clients, employees, or both. Your deliverable is a Point of View (POV) statement. Please include summaries of your interviews in addition to your final POV. Presentations will happen in class.

The problem that I chose is COVID is still spreading, and the situation is the students are going back to school, the idea is (how to preventing the spread of COVID during the students return to schools).

And for this project you will need to do 4 interviews, 5 to 6 questions for each interview, which can be with the school’s administration, parents, teachers, students. These interviews should be in text (questions and answers) a slide for each interview, and they should be placed at the end of the presentation.

The Goal

To develop expertise quickly on an issue that is broad in scope and complicated in nature.

To uncover hidden needs and deep insights that give a unique perspective on the problem.

To reframe the problem into a clear, actionable point of view statement that will inspire innovative and non-obvious solutions.

The project will culminate in a presentation of your team’s point of view. You will make your presentation where the focus is not on presentation polish (no PowerPoint allowed), but rather on clarity of ideas. Your point of view should distill the large and overwhelming issue into a manageable and actionable problem statement.

A point of view should not specify a particular solution, but should be a springboard used to generate many different ideas for solutions. It can be thought of as a rallying cry, providing direction and energy for a team to generate and evaluate solutions. A good point of view is formed from empathetic understanding of a user, the user’s need, and an insight about the user or need that is not originally apparent.

The presentation should demonstrate that your team has developed expertise in the issue of your choice that lends credibility to your point of view. You should also demonstrate that your point of view comes from a position of deep empathy with the relevant stakeholders, going beyond superficial appreciation and including cultural, social, psychological, and emotional considerations.

As you begin to develop empathy, you will uncover hidden needs that are not initially apparent. These needs often have social and emotional components. You will also discover unexpected insights into why people do the things they do and the meanings they associate with the raw materials of the world around them. These needs and insights will lead you to your point of view.

Deliverables

Presentation: A short (under five minutes) presentation of your team’s point of view and the hidden needs and insights that inspired it.

Grading

Presentation

Did your team develop deep empathy with stakeholders?

Did your team uncover hidden needs and surprising insights?

Did your team distill your learning into an actionable and inspiring problem statement?

Tips:

What’s the solution? vs. What’s the problem? Most projects start with a problem statement and ask you to find a solution. In this project, the problem statement is not given, and your task is to decide what it should be. For many students, not having a clear understanding of the problem statement can be a source of discomfort. Be prepared for this discomfort; dealing with it is the whole point of this project. This will be a crucial skill for future projects.

Analytic vs. Empathetic. This project will require that you balance a level-headed analysis of the facts with a deeply emotional position of empathy. Some people are clearly more comfortable functioning in one or the other of these modes. Be aware of your own bias and push yourself to do things you are not as comfortable with.

Testing a point of view. Although a point of view is not the same as a solution, sometimes a point of view can be tested by generating solution ideas using your point of view and getting feedback on those ideas. If your ideas are met with enthusiasm, it’s a good indicator that your point of view is solid.

Employment overqualification is and ongoing situation where employee education, skills and experience are more than the job requirements. Employees who have recently changed career paths but in previous role was a seasoned veteran within the organization. These employees bring significant management and education to the table, just not in the career path they are pursuing. How does a manager in today’s work environment keep an employee like this on the appropriate trajectory for their new career without compromising their productivity and engagement?

Assignment

This assignment deals with how the Federal Reserve uses monetary policy and its monetary policy tools to try to stabilize the economy while meeting its dual mandate of controlling inflation and maintaining unemployment.

This assignment assesses your knowledge on the following Course Outcome:

BU204-3: Examine the roles of money, banking, and the Federal Reserve System, and how monetary policy is used to mitigate negative impacts on the national economy.

1. The economy of a hypothetical country has been stable for two or three years with very low unemployment. Wages have been gradually increasing during this time. Now stock market prices begin significant increases, causing peoples’ investments, such as their retirement accounts and other investments to increase in value. People feel very good about the future, that they will keep their jobs, get regular pay raises and life will be good. With this positive feeling, people feel better about making purchases that perhaps they had been delaying earlier. They now use their new-found sense of wealth to buy many things that they had been hesitant to purchase in the past.

Given this scenario, insert your answers below each of the following questions.

a. What kind of economic gap will start to occur (inflationary or recessionary)?

(Enter response here.)

b. Which of these graphs, Figure 1 or Figure 2, depicts this economic gap?

Figure 1

Figure 1: Graph of the economy showing demand shifted to the right.

Figure 2

Figure 2: Graph of the economy showing demand shifted to the left.

(Enter response here.)

c. What part of the Federal Reserve’s congressional mandate does this scenario trigger (price stability and maximum sustainable employment)?

(Enter response here.)

d. What kind of monetary policy might be helpful to stabilize the economy (expansionary or contractionary)?

(Enter response here.)

e. What specific monetary policy tools does the Federal Reserve have available to use in this scenario?

(Enter response here.)

f. Explain in detail, how should the Federal Reserve use each of these tools to maximize their effect in stabilizing the economy, what will be the likely effect of each monetary tool’s use on the money supply, and the resulting impact on the economy?

(Enter response here.)

2. The economy of a hypothetical country has been stable for two or three years with very low unemployment. Wages have been gradually increasing during this time. Now an aggressive policy of increasing tariffs on foreign goods imported into the country results retaliatory actions from the other countries against the country’s products and services. This causes great loss of business in the country and results in significant portion of workers losing their jobs.

Given this scenario, insert your answers below each of the following questions.

a. What kind of economic gap will start to occur (inflationary or recessionary)?

(Enter response here.)

b. Which of these graphs, Figure 1 or Figure 2, depicts this economic gap?

Create a journal that tracks the company Chase Bank. Provide a full

Create a journal that tracks the company Chase Bank. Provide a full page of analysis for each topic, always including some points that apply critical thinking towards branding and the larger marketing story.

Please make sure to work on creating a narrative that is holistic, building on the previous weeks’ writing and not being repetitive. As always, I am looking for critical thinking and analysis; do not simply provide news on what is happening with the brand. That said… please do show me that you are following the brand in the news! Just make it relevant to the discussion at hand.

Make sure to incorporate ideas from articles or any supplementary reading materials you find that are germane to the discussion. There should be at least one source used in each entry. A top-quality journal will feature smart analysis.

WEEK ONE

Provide an introduction to your chosen brand: who they are, what is their industry, and why did you choose them? More importantly: what role does branding play in their story when you look at their past, present, and expected future?

WEEK TWO

For larger projects in this class, you are needing to further explore the value of customer journey maps. You do not need to create one for Chase, but I’d like you to first see if you can find any existing ones for the brand. Post a link to any you found and discuss if the tool was or was not valuable to you in thinking about the customer experience with Chase.

Then I’d like you to think about what are some possible paths that you could map out for Chase. Who would be the audience you track, and what experience with your brand would be worthy of mapping? Are there some key touchpoints that would be worthwhile to explore should you actually engage in this activity for Chase?

WEEK THREE

Completing a brand audit for companies as large as the one you are looking at in the brand journal is not only a huge undertaking but probably impossible when you are external to the company. But I’d still like you to choose a brand audit template and try your best to imagine how you’d fill out the worksheet. Identify what the template is, where you found it, and why you think it is the best choice for analyzing your particular brand.

You only have a page to work with here, so make sure to focus on the more salient and interesting points. What does your company have when it comes to clearly stated brand guidelines? What is missing that you find notable and should be remedied? You might also talk about how this theoretical audit differs from what you are doing for the actual audit project in the class.

WEEK FOUR

Brand character is a tricky act, especially if you are limited to just three items. What do you think the three character traits are used by your Fortune 500 company (or is it possible to actually find them and report back)? Are these supposed traits strong or weak options for your brand? What might you do to tweak the choices and best set up your brand for success?

I don’t want to read a page-long description of what the trait of courage means. You know, I know… Instead, use the space here to show me your understanding of your company and how those character traits are in fact integral to how the brand operates. I think it is particularly helpful for you to point out where the brand might be failing to uphold a key character trait, as this opens the door for you later in the journal to critique and then provide solutions for your “client.”

WEEK FIVE

Mission and vision statements seem awfully similar, so I’d like you to practice highlighting the differences by finding either or both if you can for Chase. Contemplate whether these statements work for you and explain the pros and cons.

Then I’d like you to come up with your own theoretical statements based on what you think the brand needs to be focused on if it wants to be relevant and continue growing. This is just one entry in one assignment, so don’t crazy trying to be perfect. But do spend some time, and make sure you walk me through your analysis on how you got to the end product.

WEEK SIX

Earlier you identified the industry that your brand is part of, but do you know in which arena they compete? Taking ideas discussed in class, try to identify what arena the brand has competed in, is in now, and might need to embrace in the next year or two to stay relevant and compete against upstarts. Does being a larger company require you to think differently about arenas and the competitive landscape?

I’m looking for you to have completed the arena workshop first so you can pull in specific terms and ideas from that chapter in Lerman’s book. While I do not expect you to redo that whole workshop experience, I think imagining some of the steps can help you craft a more detailed and meaningful analysis for this entry.

WEEK SEVEN

Does the brand compete more in the assets or offer positioning territories? Or do they have more of a focus on relationships, staking out approach or skills as the dominant territory? Does an intangible area such as mission play a larger than usual role in the brand’s positioning?

Discuss how your knowledge of the brand impacts your best guesses about positioning territories and where your chosen client wants to compete.

WEEK EIGHT

My favorite part of brand building is experience. Beyond event marketing and customer service, how does your brand deliver on its brand promise through experiences and relationship aspects of branding? This may be the hardest area to think about and deliver true value to consumers as there are infinite ways to connect and create a moment for your prospects and customers.

I’m looking for you to mention multiple external sources here as you identify specific examples of what the company has been attempting. What is your brand doing right in the area of experience, and what are they doing wrong? Where do they go next?

WEEK NINE

Brand identity often seems pretty simple, but there are lots of ways to bring that identity to life and continually engage and delight your customers and prospects. Talk about the obvious external manifestations of the brand such as a brand name, logo or slogan. But also dig deeper to think about the more subtle signals a brand uses to help consumers identify the company.

Beyond offering frank praise and critiques of the brand’s identity choices, I’d like you to imagine possible improvements or wholesale changes. Can your brand afford to evolve or innovate in this area? How would that impact the larger brand experience?

WEEK TEN

How has your opinion about the chosen brand changed or evolved over the quarter? Do you think considering the brand elements at play make them less magical, or you more cynical? What high-level branding things would you like to have spoken more about this quarter, so I can possibly improve these prompts for the next go ‘round?[supanova_question]

“Ibraheem’s arrival brought hope that Play Win could make the transition into the digital age and move from a ‘has been’ to a ‘relevant’ player,” Nasell , CIO of Converse Research, told The National Daily.

However, Hamza’s challenge is to inspire the company to regain the IT bellwether status once again, a position it lost due to the lack of innovation and growing competition in the sector.

One of the first moves taken by Hamza was doing away with the formal dress code for its employees. The employees were free to wear jeans and T-shirts instead of attending the office in formals with ties.

“Play Win needed a dressing down,” said a Play Win employee, referring to a change in dressing policy. Many internal processes related to employees had also been made simple. A female employee seeking extension of maternity leave could just inform the manager through mail, without giving any “verbal explanations.”

Also, the complex procedure an employee had to undergo while applying for a transfer to other location was simplified. The company also “institutionalized family events of its employees including carnivals for their children.” The company motivated its employees to take part in decision-making process at “many levels.” And the CEO constantly communicated with employees through blogs, town halls and social media, besides giving prompt replies to employee issues posted on Balm, the company’s communication platform.

“He participates in conversations, and joins groups of his interest. And we are encouraged to learn from each other,” said Fatima, a Play Win employee, according to the News Daily.

Owing partly to the initiatives taken by Hamza, the company was able to reduce its attrition rate, once the highest in the industry, to 14.2% in the June quarter from 23.4% in the same period of the previous year.

One of the key changes brought in by Hamza were seeking more “employee engagement” in generating ideas for the company. He rolled out a programme called Help Us, targeted at “crowd-sourcing ideas from employees.” About 26,000 employees took part in the initiative, sharing 2,650 ideas. The company had shortlisted ten ideas for execution based on employee voting.

“Ibraheem had shared a simple template that anyone — from any function, however junior or senior — could use to bring in innovation to anything he/she did. Suddenly, innovation is no big deal. It feels great to know that we are in some way part of a great renaissance at Play Win. From being simple 9-to-5ers, we’ve become people on a mission,” said Play Win employee Hajra.

Assignment Questions: Marks: 05

Q1. What were the reasons of job dissatisfaction which led to the high attrition rate at Play Win according to your opinion? (2.5 Marks)

Q2. What suggestions would you like to give to the company to reduce the high attrition rate? (2.5 Marks)
