Self concept is how I see myself and how others see me. My own personal self concept is that I’m nice, handsome, loving, athletic, generous, a bit lazy, hardworking and creative. My culture is a Sicilian American, Iraq combat Veteran. I am athletic, an activist, a cook, a homesteader, a dedicated husband and an artist. Being an activist a Veteran and homesteader are all rooted in my desire to live in a better world. I am an artist because I love to create and be expressive.
The first of my three items is my stock pot, I travel a lot and since I pack light, a stock pot doesn’t travel well, it is often the first thing I buy when in a new city. This is important to me because its the only way to make gravy (red sauce) which is the staple ingredient for many of the Sicilian dishes I cook and eat.

The second is my rollerblades. Growing up in NY, traffic is heavy and public transportation is crowded. It was my main source of transportation as well as participating in playing street hockey with my friends. As an adult I love it as a way to stay in shape. It’s interesting to see it becoming popular these days in California. For a long time, friends would mess with me because I wasn’t skateboarding.

The third object I chose is my sketchpad. I love to draw, not only is it a great way to express myself creatively it is very therapeutic. I can spend hours drawing not realizing how much time has gone by. When I was living in Argentina for a period, drawing helped me embed myself into the artistic culture in Buenos Aires.

The Heinz Dilemma and Morality psy

Goal:
To apply your own morality principles to the Heinz Dilemma
Instructions:
This discussion is lengthy so take your time!! Please read the passage below and then answer the questions.
The Heinz Dilemma:
In Europe, a woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that the doctors thought might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. the drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to make. He paid $400 for the radium and charged $4,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman’s husband, Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money and tried every legal means, but he could only get together about $2,000, which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying, and asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said, “No, I discovered the drug and I’m going to make money from it.” So, having tried every legal means, Heinz gets desperate and considers breaking into the man’s store to steal the drug for his wife.
After reading the Heinz Dilemma above, please answer the following questions:
Should Heinz steal the drug? Explain your reasoning.
Does Heinz have a duty or obligation to steal the drug? Why or why not?
If Heinz doesn’t love his wife, should he steal the drug for her? Does it make a difference in what Heinz should do whether or not he loves his wife?
Suppose the person dying is not his wife but a stranger. Should Heinz steal the drug for the stranger?
Is the druggist immoral in his decision to not provide Heinz with the drug? Why or why not?
In general, should people try to do everything they can to obey the law?
How has your own culture shaped your answers to questions 1-5? Please be detailed in this response.
How might someone from another culture answer differently? Please be detailed in this response.
Respond to another student about their answers to #5 and #6 above, Do you agree/disagree and why?

Example
Here is an example of a student submission that received full credit;
I do think Heinz should steal the drug. Stealing is wrong because it goes against the rules we have put in place in our society, but I believe letting someone die when there is a chance to save that person is worse than stealing. I think that rules should be followed, but when following a rule could lead to someone’s death the rule then becomes irrelevant in that situation.
While I think Heinz should steal the drug, I do not think he has either a duty or an obligation to do so, instead he has a choice. Breaking a law and saving a life are not obligations or duties people have, they are decisions that people make. Either choice he makes will have consequences for himself, his wife, and possibly the druggist but it is up to Heinz to decide which consequences he can live with.
I do not think whether Heinz loves his wife makes a difference in what he should do. I think that Heinz should steal the drug for his wife even if he doesn’t love her. A life is more precious than the prospect of making money, and losing a life is a greater consequence than being in trouble with the law.
I thought about this question for a long time. I went through several scenarios that included children, the elderly, the homeless population, etc. I do think Heinz should steal the drug for a stranger, but for me it depends on the stranger. Again I believe that a human life far outweighs the prospect of making money or getting in trouble with the law, but I also believe there are certain people who do not deserve to have someone go to extraordinary lengths to save their life. Among these people I would include serial killers and pedophiles. It is my belief that going above and beyond to save the lives of people who physically and psychologically harm children and can take the lives of people over and over again are not worth the consequences that come with saving their lives in this situation.
I do think the druggist is immoral in his decision not to provide Heinz with the drug because he prioritized making money over saving a life. Rather than working with Heinz to come to an agreement in which he was paid for his services and Heinz was able to obtain the drug for his wife, the druggist chose to be greedy and withhold the life saving drug.
I think people should do everything they can to obey the law, until the law becomes an obstacle to solving a more important problem. For example, people should obey the speed limit, but if someone needs to get to the hospital quickly and an ambulance is not readily available I believe it is OK to go faster than the posted speed limit.
My culture has shaped my response to the above questions by teaching me to value life over money. It has also influenced my conscience by allowing me to live with certain decisions but not with others. If I were to put myself in the place of the druggist I would not be able to live with the decision to place a higher value on profit than on life. If I were in Heinz’s position I would not be able to live with the decision to stand by and watch a loved one die when there was something I could have done, even if that meant breaking the law.
I think someone in a culture different from mine might strongly oppose stealing the drug. Some cultures could value following rules over life, or they could view taking someone’s source of income as equally bad as the loss of a life. Also, in some cultures the consequence for stealing could be death or something comparable, in which case a life would be lost either way and when thinking about the consequences the theft could be viewed as too risky.

of psychosocial development Essay

think about what you know about the Holocaust. If you do not know very much about the Holocaust during World War II, you should read up on it before continuing the assignment. The Nazis killed an estimated 15 – 20 million people during the Holocaust in what was termed the final solution. The goal of the Nazis was to rid the world of people who were, in the minds of the Nazis, undesirable. This included Jews, Catholics, Gypsies, various minorities, people with disabilities, etc. Many people sent to the concentration camps were killed upon arrival. Many others were forced into hard labor, where they worked until they died. Some people were forced to participate in cruel experiments.

Think about what you would predict for the life of someone who had to live through such atrocities. How might a Holocaust survivor experienced life in terms of Erikson’s stages? What sort of crisis resolution would you predict for someone who had been surrounded by this horrible setting? What sort of crisis resolution might you predict for someone who had been separated from their families? What sort of crisis resolution would you predict for someone who had seen loved ones, friends, and people they were interred with at the camps die? Think about this and write your prediction down.

STEP 3: Next, read the article “Erikson’s Healthy Personality, Societal Institutions, and Holocaust Survivors” by R. R. Greene, S. A. Graham, and C. Morano (Published in 2010 in Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment, 20: 489-506.) You can access this through your campus library.

STEP 4: Your assignment is to write a reflection paper (500-800 words) that discusses your thoughts on the Erikson research paper. Your reflection paper is meant to be introspective and thoughtful. You should take into account everything that you have learned about Erikson’s theory as you have moved through this class, the research article, and your educated opinion on the topic.

First you should summarize and describe the study in a few sentences in your own words.
Identify and describe the basic assumption of the researchers.
Why were they conducting this research?
How was the study performed? What methods were used?
Second, discuss your original prediction about the outcomes you expected from Step 2.
It is OK if the prediction was wrong. Whatever your prediction was, discuss why you made that prediction.
Third, think about what the Holocaust survivors went through as discussed in the article, and the Eriksonian stage they were in when they went through that.
How do you think that the stage and age played a role in their immediate outcome?
How do you think that the stage and age played a role in their long-term outcome? As you answer this question, think about Erikson’s epigenetic principle. While Erikson’s theory is a stage theory, it is a little different than other stage theories in that Erikson believed that all of the stages are active all of the time, but that at certain ages a specific crisis is being worked on more than the others—that crisis is the focus at that age, but some work is still happening on the other crises at the same time. In this way, then, even if you had a poor resolution early in life, there is still work being done on that stage throughout your lifespan, and this could allow a successful resolution to that stage later in life.

does Western-based co-parenting have on the emotional development of Black American children?

Introduction
State your research question and explain how it relates to your specialization and professional interests.

Synthesis of Literature Into a Cohesive Review
In the preparation study in Week 5, you identified at least three key themes, or focuses of inquiry, that are relevant to your research question and present in each article. These themes may be based on:

Related aspects of research questions.
Related or differing conclusions.
Other factors or ideas the studies have in common.
Other points of contrast between the studies.
Use concise formulations of these themes as headings for the next sections of the paper. In these sections, compare and contrast your resources’ positions relative to each theme, and then synthesize your own position relative to the theme. Support your conclusions by citing your references.

Granello’s 2001 article, “Promoting Cognitive Complexity in Graduate Written Work: Using Bloom’s Taxonomy as a Pedagogical Tool to Improve Literature Reviews,” provides a framework and strategies to help you work through this part of your assignment.

Conclusion
Restate the conclusions you came to regarding the themes you explored with your research. Support your conclusions by citing your references. However, if you find that more research would be needed to decide a question, briefly outline ideas of how you could undertake that research.
1.Formulates a specific research question, related to personal passions and interests, to address an important problem in a specialized field of psychology.
2.Uses critical thinking frameworks and appropriate criteria to comprehensively and concisely evaluate the reliability, credibility, value, ethics, and relevance of diverse peer-reviewed literature in relation to a research question.
3.Uses critical thinking tools to cohesively synthesize relevant literature into well supported and original themes (themes not explicitly stated in the articles).
4.Applies themes that are relevant to a research question and present in each scholarly resource cited, and fully explains the connection between the research question and each theme.
5.Augments and refines a vision statement to explain the importance of research interests within a given scope and focus in the field of psychology, and defines relevant goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, and timely.

What my teacher said in response to my topic.
Erikson’s Socioemotional Development Model would most directly relate to the Socioemotional Dimension of Lifespan Development. Do you have a plan for relating Erikson’s model to the Physical Dimension? If so, then proceed with the three you proposed. If you don’t, then you might change your Dimension to Socioemotional Development.

Discussion

Discussion. Discussion.

first :Please discuss the evidence-based treatments provided in the textbook and discuss which one you find most interesting (and why?).
After reading the following article please comment on the non-evidence-based treatments.
https://autismsciencefoundation.org/what-is-autism/beware-of-non-evidence-based-treatments/ reply to this :
The evidence based treatments in the textbook include facilitated communication which gives the child the opportunity to communicate while typing on a keyboard with the support of a facilitator. this treatment is not effective however in the textbook there was a stuidy that found this treatment still being used. i agree with the textbook in this fact that this would not be an effective for of treatment. Medications can use used as a form of treatment which again i dont feel are very effective. Even with other illnesses or disabilities i dont find them to be entirely efective. i feel like medication a lot of times is just a mask fpr symptoms. it doesnt permanently take them away it just dulls them out and takes them away temporarily. Some of the medication treatments talked about in the book include secretin which is involved with digestion and has been known to help soscial and language abilities, Chelation therapy which is removing heavy metals from the body, and risperiodone which is an antipsychotic that helps with behavior management. finally Applied Behavior Analysis is the last treatment in the textbook. This is the most effective treatment. this consists of intense behavior modifications using operant conditioning techniques. this is the treatment i find to be most interesting and intriguing, i have heard about it bur didnt know too much about it. when reading about it it specifically said that there were two goals when it comes to ABA therapy and that way to identify the specific behaviors and the second goal is to gain control over the behaviors. just by reading those two goals i feel like that is a great place to start. when it comes to disabilities you lose control of some type of ability. therefore using this type of therapy one is being taught how to gain control of that behavior or lacking ability.
As for the non evidence based treatments to start i noticed that the chelation therapy as well as secretin injections were on this article as well both in the book and on the article this option is not beneficial when it comes to the treatment of autism. the luperon therpay sounds like it would be a little extreme, the dieting and supplements i think are great for anyone because it is best for your health. However when it comes to autism i wouldnt say that this could be helpful treatment wise, i think it would just help their immune system, energy, and body in general. this also goes for the raw camel milk, being that its healthy for you its great however it wouldnt be a cure. Antifungal therapy seems a bit odd to me and as it said could potentially be harmful. I also dont feel like all antifungal agents are curing even for some bacterial issues so i couldnt see it being an actual help for autism. Marijuana is just a temporary mask for symptoms as ive said before with medications. the nicotene patch therapy reading that portion i found to be interestiong. Although i wouldnt suggest it because i have heard some rough stories about side effects while people use them to try to quit smoking. I dont feel like bleach should even be on there because that is unsafe. as for the psychological therapy i have heard of the horseback riding therapy and the dolphin therapy. I find these two treatments to be very interesting and enjoyable. I know a couple people that have gotten horses for their anxiety and it is helpful. Being i have done both horseback riding and swam with dolphins it is a very calming experience and enjoyable. it isnt a cure but it is definitely a calming experience. Hold therapy i dont find to be a cure but i feel that it would help with a bond. Reply to :
The evidence based treatments that are dicussed in the textbook are facilitaed communication, which is a technique that includes a facilitator that supports the hands and arm of a disbaled person and helps them type on a keyboard. This technique allows a person who was autism to communicate, show awareness and insight, and reveal expierences that could have caused their autism. To me this was the most interesting because it originated in the early 1990s and is still being used, despite it not being an effective cure. Other treatments include medications such as secretin and risperidone, and chelation therapy. I think that therapy would be the most effective out of all.
There were many non-evidence based treatments. Chelation therapy was on this article as well. It is said that it is not effective becuase autism is not caused by metal poisoning and a child died from it in 2005. Bleach therapy sounds very dangerous because of the side effects it can cause. Another non-evidence based treatment that stood out to me was stem cell therapy. This stood out to me because it states that it is illegal, but is still being used. Some of these treatments just sound like they are making people test dummies and can be causing more harm than good.

All papers will be subject to plagiarism checks.
These papers are comprehensive papers; you should discuss the concepts that we have studied throughout the course. Research the chosen psychological perspective using the textbook and other sources to report on the perspective. Go further than what the book offered. Make sure to focus on the way the perspective explains the development of personality and how the perspective and personality interact. For example: Do not just define the psychoanalytic theories’ defense mechanism of denial, explain how denial may change the development or expression of someone’s personality.

Third :
Write a discussion post (at least 200 words, see syllabus for detailed instructions) in which you respond to the gun violence in Chicago AJ documentary.
Be sure to answer the following:
(i) What types of aggression do you think are demonstrated in the documentary?
(ii) What are some explanations for the violence and aggression discussed in the documentary?
(iii) What are some possible solutions to the violence and aggression that takes place? Think of programs, activities, exercises individuals or groups of people can engage in.
Reply :
The types of agression that I think was demonstrated in the documentary was hostile agression. Hostile agression refers to a form of agression in which an individual reacts violently to a situation. For example, it could be a threat that was made by another person or even an insult. In the video, the reason why i think it was a hostile agression is because if you see in the video, it looked like someone was killed or murdered and there were people crying and in pain because their loved one or even friend died.
I think some explanations for the violence and agression that was discussed in the documentary was that a guy said that Chicago is basically one of the most segregated cities in the world and that theres people who are fighting to survive, people wouldn’t choose to live this way if they had another way of living. <<I am not for sure on this question
I think some possible soultions to the violence and agression that takes place is if they are struggling to live, go seek help from a parent, teacher or just someone elderly. If they do not have anyone to talk to, they can go to a mental hospital which usually some people do not go to or even talk to a doctor about what they are going through or how they are feeling. Some excercises that can help is doing yoga. There honestly should be more mental health hospitals that needs to be built so that way more people can come and join and talk about how they are feeling. I know that there are some people who do not like to talk about how they actually feel and that they feel like they have no one to listen to them but I know that there are people who actually cares they just have to give them a chance. Also, the people who do not want to actually talk about how they feel, they usually do some sort of activity or excercise to take their mind off of what they are feeling.
Reply :
Some types of aggression I saw demonstrated in the documentary was hostile aggression because of how someone reacts to a violent situation in a form of aggression. Chicago has a lot of violence to where these hostile environments create people to react to violent situations and act upon that emotion.
Some explanation for the violence and aggression discussed in the documentary was a way of life in these negative neighborhoods and also for revenge on others that killed someone. Tribal disputes are usually why a lot of people die in these neighborhoods and retaliation shots from these disputes add to the reason why people die. In the video a mother told the interviewers that she lost her son and she wanted revenge and she almost got a gun. If you think about the amount of people that also lost someone and that wants revenge and actually acts on that thought.
Solutions for the violence and aggression that takes place in these areas is from the gangs and poverty stricken neighborhoods. If people are causing these problems, put the childrens and families first. Next strict gun laws that are actually being enforced in these neighborhoods to try to get in control of these events. Lastly most of the neighborhoods are in poverty and if they had jobs and incomes created for them to leave and make a better life they would. Nobody wants to live like that at the end of the day and some of the reason why people do is for survival.

Paper Option #1: Create a Pamphlet, Multimedia, or Other Resource to Educate OthersOverview
You will create a pamphlet, infographic, multimedia, or other resource and write a reflection paper about your project. The paper will consist of a written reflection on your experience and learning related to the project.
Purpose
During the course of your study of psychology, it is important for you to consider how you can apply what you have learned to your life, work, and efforts toward your professional and personal goals. It is also important to reflect on ways that you can utilize your knowledge to benefit the broader community and support community organizations. Thus, I am asking you to identify and research a specific topic (e.g., child nutrition, breastfeeding, stress and anxiety, domestic violence) on which to create a pamphlet (e.g., trifold brochure), multimedia presentation, or other resource to raise awareness and/or educate our community on your topic. Choose something that really interests you or is a passion of yours! (You are not required to share the resource with anyone but your instructor.)
Create a Resource to Educate Instructions
Choose a specific topic (e.g., relationship violence, Alzheimer’s prevention) in psychology that interests you and immerse yourself in studying that area. Learn as much as you can. Become an expert. Research your topic. Don’t forget to use your textbook!
Identify organizations in the local community (e.g., Sistercare, local church, Department of Education) that can provide guidance on your topic and need to raise awareness and/or materials that you might develop to educate our community and/or benefit their efforts. Please see me for guidance or suggestions as needed.
Contact 1 – 3 of the organizations that you identified.Introduce yourself and explain why you are contacting them. Briefly describe the course project.
Request their input and suggestions on a resource that you can create to educate others and raise awareness of your topic. If they don’t think that they can help, politely request that they suggest someone that they think could help you. And, always thank the person(s).
Take notes during your conversation or keep records of your communication.
Based on the information you collect, determine the next steps required to decide what type of resource you will produce (e.g., pamphlet, educational video clip) and the content you will include.
Special Note: Be sure that you use professional communication (i.e., be respectful, use appropriate language, identify yourself and your purpose, say thank you) either in person, over the phone, or in writing! See me in advance if you would like guidance on communicating with organization staff or have any questions about professional communication.

Create your resource. Be creative! And, check to be sure that any written portion of your resource is clear, engaging, accurate, educational, and free of errors (including spelling or grammatical errors).Special Note: You can’t include everything. Include the content that you think is MOST important!

Reflection Paper
Write 1 – 2 page(s) summary of your experience researching your topic and creating your resource.
Be sure to include details on:the organization(s) that you worked with
your reflections on what you learned
the significance or your topic and project
