  • “Information Systems Use as Strategy Practice – A Multi-Dimensional View of Strategic Information System Implementation and Use,” (.pdf file), published in Journal of Strategic Information Systems
  • “Better Data Brings a Renewal at the Bank of England,” (.pdf file), published in MIT Sloan Management Review

CASE STUDIES

One (1) case study shall be written by each student over the ten-week course. The written case study paper shall be no longer than 3 pages in length and shall be submitted for a grade. The case study shall be based on a real-world ethical situation you have personally encountered and about which you, personally, had to make an ethical decision. The case study format must include the following elements:

a. Title of the case

b. Facts regarding the case

c. A one-sentence statement of the ethical problem (If you cannot reduce the problem down to one sentence, you probably do not fully understand the problem, or it may not be an ethical problem at all. Generally, most problems can be reduced down to lying, cheating, or stealing, or some variation thereof.)

d. Possible alternative responses and/or solutions to the ethical problem that were available to you

i. Describe each alternative response and/or solution fully

ii. Analyze each alternative response and/or solution giving the advantages/disadvantages; pros/cons of each

e. Give your recommended alternative and the reasons for choosing it. This alternative may or may not have been the one you chose in the real world. If it was not, please explain why you would act differently today.

The purpose of the case study is for you to review a real ethical problem you actually encountered and to examine how you handled it. Therefore, please choose a case study that actually happened to you. Do not pick an ethical problem that does not apply to you. It is easy to solve other people’s ethical problems, it is not so easy to solve your own. Therefore, do not choose a case study unless it required you to personally make an ethical decision. Do not, for example, describe an ethical problem in your workplace or in your profession and then recommend that your employer or the industry within which you work should correct the problem. It has to be a problem that forced you to make an ethical decision. The assignment is intended to give you the opportunity to review how you make ethical decisions, not to review how someone else makes ethical decisions.

SOC 101 University of Nairobi Principles of Sociology Course Reflection Paper Writing Assignment Help

Summary:

In this final assignment, you will reflect on your thinking, learning, and work throughout the semester. To do this well, consider addressing the following key areas:

Content: What were some of the readings, scholars, concepts, and questions that were of most interest to you and why?

Process: Think of all the activities, work, readings, assignments that we did.

  • What were some of my most challenging moments in this semester and what made them so?
  • What were some of my most powerful/interesting learning moments and what made them so?
  • What will you remember most from this shared learning experience?

Assessment: How do you think you did in this class? Why? What grade do you think you deserve. Why? What got in the way of your progress, if anything? What helped you recover and succeed?

Other questions to consider:

  • What are some areas or topics that you want to delve deeper into and why?
  • What were you most proud of?
  • As you leave this class, sociologically speaking, what are you most curious about?
  • How has this learning experience (if at all) helped you to navigate school, your work, or professional aspirations currently and into the future?

• ***You do not have to all answer of the questions above. Rather, again your goal is to present a reflective summary of your thinking, learning, and work throughout the semester.

Why a Process of Reflection: “Reflection is a cognitive process that promotes self-awareness and encourages self-assessment. The cognitive process of reflecting on one’s authentic knowledge, practice, and beliefs/attitudes is important to developing professionalism. Reflection allows one to think critically about one’s ability to effectively join content knowledge with learning and in particular our goals and participation in society” (Applewhite, 2015)

This is sociology. Please try to imagine the knowledge about sociology and answer the above questions as much as possible.

To earn a passing grade, your essay must do the following:

a) answer the question that is posed.

b) contain all parts of an academic essay, including a clearly identifiable thesis statement. The type of background used prior to the thesis should also be identifiable.

c) be in the form of a comparison/contrast essay.

d) have well-developed body paragraphs of roughly 8-10 sentences each.

As discussed in the podcasts, you may find that you need to go beyond the standard three-point, five-paragraph essay in responding. However, please be advised that a well-written, 5-paragraph essay can still earn an A for Content and that going beyond five paragraphs does not mean a higher grade.

ENGL SMC Use of Darkness in the Heart of Darkness Book Title & as a Symbol Discussion Humanities Assignment Help

Choose one of the following topics for your essay.

1. As you read the novel, be aware of how Conrad uses repeated “doubling” patterns of opposition and contrast in Heart of Darkness: light and dark, white and black, “savagery” and “civilization,” outer and inner? What does Conrad accomplish by this contrast, especially of light and dark?

2. Marlow constantly uses vague and often redundant phrases like “unspeakable secrets”, “inconceivable mystery”, “impenetrable darkness”, and “insoluble problem” (for example, in his description of the young Russian explorer). At other times, however, he is capable of powerful imagery and considerable eloquence. Why does Marlow use vague, “inconclusive” language and opposing adjectives so frequently?

3. Analyze Marlow’s use of the terms “the idea” and “the work” in the novel. Why are there so many ironic suggestions to what these terms actually mean in his observations of the colonial practices in King Leopold’s Congo?

4. What is your understanding of Marlow’s references to “the thing” as his journey unfolds through the African rainforest?

5. Why is Conrad’s use of irony, as a narrative strategy, so powerful throughout the novel? In your opinion, what are the moments/events when Marlow’s ironic statements are the most powerful?

6. Interpret Kurtz’s dying words (“The horror! The horror!”). What do they mean? What are the possible “horrors” to which he is referring? Why is Marlow the recipient of Kurtz’s last words?

7. What do women represent in Heart of Darkness? There are three significant women in this story: Kurtz’s Intended, Marlow’s aunt, and the African woman at Kurtz’s station. How are they described? Contrast Kurtz’s African mistress with his Intended. Are both negative portrayals of women? Describe how each portrayal functions in the narrative. Does it make any difference in your interpretation to know that Conrad supported the women’s suffrage movement? What does Marlow mean early in Part 1 when he suggests that women are “out of touch with truth” and live in a beautiful world of their own?

8. Describe the use of “darkness” both in the book’s title and as a symbol throughout the text. What does darkness represent? Is its meaning constant or does it change?
