You are a Junior Recruiter for a large staffing agency. You report to a Senior Recruiter for Medical and Healthcare, Linda Shaw. You’ve been tasked with finding an excellent candidate for a client in the pharmaceutical industry, WellGen Pharma. They are looking for a salesperson who will fit in with their focus on innovation and who has experience in sales. Review the job ad below and then consider the three candidates you have narrowed your search to. Please note that technically there is no wrong answer in terms of the candidate selected because you found three excellent candidates, but the explanation you provide should persuade your supervisor and the client that the chosen person is the best choice while also demonstrating your understanding of passive and active candidates and best practices for recruiting each.

Write a memo formatted report to the Senior Recruiter, Linda Shaw, introducing the candidate and explaining your choice. Be sure to address the following:

• The name and qualifications of the chosen candidate. Make the connection between his or her qualifications and the open role clear to the busy reader.
• Where the candidate was sourced, whether the chosen candidate was active or passive and what impact this had on your decision.
• Why the other two candidates were rejected.
• The ethical considerations of sourcing candidates using social media.

Your Task:

Before beginning, please download the following documents, which you will use to complete this Tabula Rasa assignment:

• Tabula Rasa #4 Information Document_Rafael Lozano-Hemmer (see attached file) (this is the document containing all the images, videos and information about Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s artwork necessary to complete this assignment)

Please follow the instructions outlined above VERY CAREFULLY as you look at the documentation of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s interactive artworks titled “Border Tuner” and “Remote Pulse” and follow the T.A.B.U.L.A (see below). method to respond to the artwork and its background.

Part 1:

T is for Time – Clear your mind (as Ossian Ward says: wipe your brain slate clean!). Set a timer on your phone to record how much time you spend looking at and engaging with the documentation of the artwork(s) in this initial phase. Spend time looking at, analyzing and jotting down thoughts and notes about the artwork documentation in Section One of the included document. Be sure you look at ALL material given here – both photos and video links, if given. At this stage the only information you have is the images and/or video documentation, and the brief informational caption about the artwork (much like what you would experience seeing an artwork on display in a gallery or museum). Take your time, don’t rush through this step in just a few minutes. You need to spend enough time with these images/videos/text to really build thoughtful associations to the artwork. Record the time you spent looking in Part One of the assignment template (note: please do not include the time you spend writing your Association response – just the time you spend carefully looking at all the artwork documentation). (Note: everyone will inevitably need different amounts of time for this stage. I am asking you to honestly time yourself and record the time so that you gain a better sense of how quickly or slowly you engage in the observational process)

A is for Association – In Part One of the assignment template, write about your initial observations, thoughts, reactions, questions and gut feelings about the artwork(s) based on what you have seen so far. What details did you notice about the materials, the imagery, the way the artwork is made or displayed, its scale, its relationship to architectural or social space, etc.? On first observation, what about the artwork hooked you, challenged you, excited you, etc.? WHY? Be specific! Write down all your initial observations and associations with the artwork. You don’t need to know what the artist’s intentions for the artwork are (what the artwork is about) at this stage – discuss what your experience looking at it is. Note: if there is a series of artworks (rather than just one singular artwork) included in the assignment, please make sure you discuss all of them as they relate to each other. Please also ensure that it’s clear from your response that you have indeed looked at all images and video documentation included. (200-300 words please)

Part 2:

B is for Background – Watch the linked video(s) and/or read the provided literature about the artwork provided in Section Two of the included information document. In addition to watching/reading all included explanatory material, please conduct independent research about the artist(s) and their artwork(s) online. Look for other writings, reviews and/or videos that help you to understand the artist’s practice and ideas, and the given artwork(s) in greater depth. (Wikipedia and Artsy are not acceptable sources of information). In Part Two of the assignment template, please include a works cited list of the research you have conducted (at least 2-3 independently-found sources should be listed). Please give the title, author’s name, and website url for each source listed.

U is for Understanding – In Part Two of the assignment template, write about some of the significant or valuable things you learned about the contexts for the artwork(s) and the background of the artist’s ideas and making process. Explain why you found these things valuable for expanding your understanding about the artwork(s). Make sure that you address information you gleaned BOTH from the resources included in Section Two of the assignment document, AND at least one other independently-sourced web resource in your writing for this section. (200-300 words please)

IMPORTANT: remember you must quote and attribute anyone else’s thoughts or writing properly (give the author’s full name and title of the article/website/review.

Part 3:

L is for Look Again – Take a break! Then, with fresh eyes and expanded understanding go back and look at the artwork(s) again.

A is for Assessment – In Part Three of the assignment template, describe your overall and final impressions about this artwork based on what you were able to see, as well as the information you gleaned about the artist and their work through research. You can discuss the materials, the artist’s ideas, the artwork’s location, the imagery, the historical/social/economic/political/spiritual/etc. background, your own reactions to these things, etc. Some questions that might guide you: What have you come away with from this experience of engaging with the given artwork? Has it shifted your thinking about art? Do you feel the artwork is successful? Why? What do you think this artwork does for its viewers, yourself included? Etc. This section is where you really focus on your own original thinking about the artwork. You’ve already described what you’ve observed and learned about the artwork – now is when you should be analyzing all this information with a personal and critical lens. (200-300 words please)

different topic than the ones on which you have already written, the
discussion posts and responses may still be useful and inspiring to you.

your own original interpretations and arguments; researching other
secondary sources is not required for this assignment, and plagiarism of
other sources will not be tolerated.

Tasks:

First, choose one of the following two topics:

• Topic
  #1: Unit 1B’s introduction to the Five Great Themes of World Literature
  states with regard to the hero: “The surest way to understand what a
  culture of the past most values is to focus on what it considers heroic,
  in that a culture recognizes its heroes as embodying its most important
  ideas, the values that are essential.” Discuss the diverse values that
  our two epic heroes, Gilgamesh and Odysseys, embody. Which values
  embodied by these epic heroes are endorsed or celebrated by their
  societies? Are any of their values condemned or rejected by their
  societies? Illustrate your discussion with specific examples of the
  heroes’ obligations to their societies and what their values reflect
  about their cultures. One of the passages you should quote (all or in
  part) and analyze is the following:

‘I am committed to this
enterprise: to climb the mountain, to cut down the cedar, and leave
behind me an enduring name.’ The Counselors of Uruk; the great market,
answered him, ‘Gilgamesh, you are young, your courage carries you too
far, you cannot know what this enterprise means which you plan’ (9).

• Topic #2: Both Gilgamesh and the Odyssey have central female characters, both mortal ones and goddesses. Discuss how the two epics deal with such subjects as
  
  • what power women have;
  • how central the women are to the events in the epics;
  • to what extend the goddesses exhibit characteristics similar to mortal women;
  • whether women are portrayed as having flaws or traits that are unique to females.

From Gilgamesh,
focus on Siduri and possibly Ishtar, Ninsun, or Shamash; for Homer, you
have many options, including Penelope, Athena, Anticleia, Circe,
Calypso, and Nausicaa. One of the passages you should quote (all or in
part) and analyze is the following:

When the gods created man they
allotted to him death, but life they retained in their own keeping. As
for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night,
night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice. Let your clothes
be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds
your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the
lot of man (25).

Second, write an essay presenting your argument.
Include quotations from the texts as well as additional details that
illustrate and enhance the points you are making. Use the following as
an outline of what to include:

1. Explain the general topic and
   relevant themes (e.g. heroes, women) and any relevant terms for that
   topic (suggested 1-2 paragraphs).
2. Apply that topic to both Gilgamesh and to the Odyssey (suggested
   4-6 paragraphs). Give specific examples and quotes from the texts to
   illustrate your points. Use in-text citations for the quotations.
3. Your
   final page should be your Works Cited page, in MLA format. It should
   include the literary texts, as well as any content pages from the course
   material to which you may have referred.
