The first bullet point, prepare what you plan to say, deals with the content of the message. This the employee behavior and attitudes in the work place. Next is the tone of delivering the message to the person. Are you going to the talk down to the person or talk to the person as a peer? Focus on growth is key strategy that is used when I am dealing with such individuals. I believe that there is good in all when giving a choice and guidance through problem solving which intern help to mature the employee. As the leader the individual has to wear the crown of the Alpha Dog and stand your ground, calmly (Knight 2017).

2. In healthcare, management of staff and employees is a large part of a manager’s daily job. When employees are not performing according to the facility’s standards, it a manager’s responsibility to intervene and address the issues. An employee having a negative attitude can be detrimental to the team and create unnecessary tension. In order to prepare for the meeting, I would consult the human resources department to seek advice. In the past, I have developed and used a performance improvement plan to help facilitate conversation and initiate goals for the employee. Establishing a performance improvement plan will provide the employee with steps for accomplishing the outlined goals (Heathfield, 2019). Having the employee get involved with the process is also beneficial and encourages shared commitment. As part of the performance improvement plan, having planned touch base meetings at intervals with the employee will define expectations and provide clarity for the manager and employee. This is the process I would take to prepare for the meeting and outline expectations with the employee.

3. If I were faced with having to confront an employee for their negative behavior I would compile a list of complaints that were noticed or submitted to me. I would write down some things that I would like to mention in the meeting, ideas on how to improve behaviors. “Employee morale, productivity and customer service levels are at their highest when employees work effectively as a team and practice basic tenets of civility and respect for each other. This, unfortunately, is not always the case when employees display inappropriate and disruptive behaviors” (Managing Difficult Employees and Disruptive Behaviors 2019). I would keep this in mind and mention that that positive working team will help curb unwanted behaviors and keep everyone happy and motivated to work hard. I would tell this employee that I am here to support him and I am here to help in any way possible. I would also want to be firm in the fact that these types of behaviors are not to be tolerated and if they continue that there would be disciplinary action. I could also put together a team meeting or team building exercise to encourage workplace relationships. “Preventive, ongoing training can lay the groundwork for employees to understand their behavioral expectations and for managers to be prepared to act when employees fall short of those expectations” (Managing Difficult Employees and Disruptive Behaviors 2019). This could be the baseline of expectations moving forward.
