(5b) So far in this course, we have learned how to collect,
organize, and summarize data. Now, we focus on how to compute and
interpret probability models, which will help us in analyzing data later
in the course. Sometimes you do not get the chance to step through the
entire statistical process yourself. Instead, the media may take the
first step in reporting the data to you. Review some of the sites in
the Statistics Literacy category in the Webliography. These sites
examine the news media’s handling of statistics. Based on these sites
and your experience, respond to all of the following prompts:

• Are we getting the correct numbers and interpretation of statistics from the news media?
• Provide an example, from a publication, that supports your answer.  

Use FACTORING to solve:

4x^2 – 25 = 0

Use the QUADRATIC FORMULA to solve:

x^2=20

• For the factoring problem, be sure you show all steps to the factoring and solving. Show a check of your solutions back into the original equation.

• For the quadratic formula problem, be sure that you use readable notation while you are working the computational steps. Refer to the Inserting Math Symbols handout for guidance with formatting.

• Present your final solutions as decimal approximations carried out to the third decimal place. Due to the nature of these solutions, no check is required.

• Incorporate the following four math vocabulary words into your discussion. Usebold font to emphasize the words in your writing. Do not write definitions for the words; use them appropriately in sentences describing your math work.
• Quadratic formula
• Factoring
• Completing the square
• Discriminant

This is for a MS Office Access Database and related Discussion Response of 70 words. Please see below for each items instructions. The three readings for the discussion response can be subsituted with a reliable source(s) from the internet. Please format the discussion response as laid out below “Item A, Item B..”

Access (Due end of Week 4, Sunday, day 7 of Week 4).

Using Access, you will create a NEW database, including creating 3 tables (linked) (minimum 10 records per table, with minimum 5 fields per record), 2 types of queries, 2 types of forms, 2 types of reports, and advanced formatting tools.

Some sample Access ideas include: (1) inventory of technology at work, (2) inventory of your home/possessions for insurance purposes, (3) rolodex of all contact information you have on others.

Rubric/Grading Description —  Points (100 points, 15% of overall grade):
(1) 3 tables (10 points each) = 30 points.
(2) 2 queries (10 points each) = 20 points.
(3) 2 forms (10 points each) = 20 points.
(4) 2 reports (10 points each) = 20 points.
(5) Organized, formatted, and professionally presented Access file, including grammar items (correct spelling, etc.) = 10 points.
TOTAL Possible Points — 100 points total (15% of overall grade).

WELCOME to the discussion for WEEK 4. We will be discussing some of the reading assignments pertaining to MS Access. Please note that participating in this discussion counts toward your class participation grade.
