Please do a paragraph about this post with this instruction .

post most have 4 or more sentences .

you also have to have a high quality post from a content perspective. This means it also needs to do more than agree with or praise a class mate. If you agree with a classmate, explain why, give an example, share what you learned in the readings, ask questions of each other, etc

Statistical significance considers the first and third of these concerns. The middle one, bias, cannot be detected by mathematical deductive logic: it needs detailed information on the way the sample was chosen. This is dealt with in the notes on bias. Consider a study that shows a new therapy to be superior to the existing therapy. Statistical significance calculates the probability that the results observed in a study may have been merely a chance finding, and would not be repeated if the study were re-done. It depends on the sample size (the bigger the sample, the more confident you will be that it produces trustworthy results) and the size of the difference observed. If the study showed a huge difference between new and old therapies, the result is more likely to be real. Crucial Point: testing statistical significance is all about the likelihood of a chance finding that will not hold up in future replications. Significance does not tell us directly how big the difference was. Clinical significance or clinical importance: Is the difference between new and old therapy found in the study large enough to alter a practice. Because there is always a leap of faith in applying the results of a study to patients, a small improvement in the new therapy is not sufficient to cause to alter the clinical approaches. Note that it would almost certainly not alter an approach if the study results were not statistically significant. But the difference between two therapies large enough to alter the practice is if statistics cannot fully answer this question. It is one of clinical judgment, considering the magnitude of benefit of each treatment, the respective profiles of side effects of the two treatments, their relative costs, the comfort with prescribing a new therapy, the patient’s preferences. But we can provide different ways of illustrating the benefit of treatments, in terms of the Number Needed to Treat. To decide whether a new treatment should be used, statistical significance of its effectiveness over current treatment alone is insufficient. Measures of the size of the treatment effects (that is, clinical significance) are also necessary. Statistical significance measures how likely that any apparent differences in outcome between treatment and control groups are real and not due to chance. Clinical significance measures how large the differences in treatment effects are in clinical practice. Different measures have been devised. A partial way out of this uncertainty is to express study results using confidence intervals instead of significance levels. Confidence intervals show the likely range of results within which the true value is likely to lie. An important idea to grasp is that if a study is very large, its result may be statistically significant unlikely to be due to chance, and yet the deviation from the null hypothesis may be too small to be of any clinical interest. Conversely, the result may not be statistically significant because the study was so small or “under powered”, but the difference is large and would seem potentially important from a clinical point of view.

Critical issues in Psychology, psychology homework help Humanities Assignment Help

Each Question needs to be a minimum of 450 words. No citations are needed.

1) What is a mental element?

2) What are operationism and positivism? How did they influence the transition of psychology from the functionalist to the behaviourist era? Are we purely operationist in psychology today? Why or why not?

3) Do you think the following statement makes sense, why or why not? “Since consciousness has never and could never be directly observed, at best, it is a hypothetical construct and so should not be a part of scientific psychology.”

4) Describe the logic of construct validation theory and its importance to the history of psychology. Include in your answer: a) the problem that CV theory addressed, b) the difference between operationism and CV theory, and c) the basic logical error of CV theory according to operationism.

5) Discuss the historical use of analogies for the mind/mental phenomena in psychology. Talk about the types of analogies that have been used by psychologists and philosophers to help understand the nature of mental phenomena. Discuss the sense in which cognition is similar to consciousness and, hence, the sense in which the problem of cognitive psychology is similar to the problem of structuralism and functionalism.

6) According to Niesser, what is cognition? What kind of phenomena are cognitions? Are cognitions directly observable? What is the role of cognitions in scientific psychology (how do we use the idea in psychology)?

7) You have been introduced to the basic problem of psychology:

“what is the subject matter of psychology (so, for instance, what is a memory, what is a thought, what is consciousness)?”

and you have seen how this problem has been treated throughout the history of psychology. You have seen the four basic approaches that have been used to address the problem (metaphysics, operationism, CV Theory, and the OLV), and are clear that there are fundamental disagreements and fundamental incompatibilities between these four approaches. You have also seen that the problem of the nature of psychological phenomena is not merely philosophical or “academic”. You should now be aware, at least in the case of mental disorder, that the problem has immediate, enormous, and current significance.

Considering all that you have learned, what is the basic lesson that you will take with you in to your other courses and your life in general from your new understanding of this issue?

8) Select a single concept from a modern psychology text and show that there are both theories about what it is and definitions of it.

9) What did Wittgenstein say about the role of language in psychology? How does this relate to what Szasz said about the nature of mental illness?

10) According to Hacker, what is the mind? What would Hacker say about the position of Rene Descartes (the 17th century Cartesian view) that the mind is a kind of entity that interacts with the brain at the pineal gland? (Hint: watch “Hacker in Holland” and “Hacker in Oxford” very carefully)

You and your Learning Team are buyers for a coffeehouse and are
responsible for purchasing the beans. This month, you must buy three
grades of coffee bean. The different grades are blended with various
flavors to make well-known coffee drinks. The beans are selling for
$0.80, $1.20, and $1.80 per pound. You want to know how much of each
grade of bean to buy based on the following assumptions given to you by
the owner:

  • The total weight of beans needed is 15,000 pounds to minimize shipping costs.
  • You must spend the budgeted amount of $20,000.
  • You need 2,000 more pounds of the most expensive grade than the least expensive grade.

Provide step-by-step directions and general guidelines for placing a
matrix in reduced row echelon form (RREF) using Gauss-Jordan
elimination to solve the problem:

  1. Use x, y, and z to represent the weights of the three grades of
beans you buy, where x is the weight of the least expensive bean, y is
the weight of the next expensive bean, and z is the weight of the most
    expensive bean.

lanlord tenant law, assignment help Business Finance Assignment Help

Larry Landlord has recently renovated an apartment and has put it on the market to be rented for $800.00 a month. Larry Landlord has been in business for approximately five (5) years and has had both positive and negative experiences with tenants. Larry Landlord is hoping to find a good, long-term tenant for his apartment. Roger Renter saw Larry’s sign for the apartment for rent and thought the location and the apartment would be perfect. Roger met Larry to look at the apartment and Roger fell in love with it. All of the interior fixtures had been replaced and the unit had a nice large closet. Roger noticed that although newly painted, the exterior of the apartment did show a little bit of wear. Because of the condition of the exterior of the building, Roger asked Larry about any roof leaks. Larry stated that he had never had a leak and was not aware of any leaks.

Roger and Larry entered into a valid contract for the rental of the apartment. (Note: The issue of whether or not a contract exists is NOT part of this question. For purposes of this question assume the contract is valid and there are no issues with the contract.)

Roger Renter was very happy in his new location; the apartment was quiet and the neighbors were friendly. Larry Landlord was also very happy because Roger Renter was a model tenant. Roger Renter paid on time and was quiet and respectful to other tenants.

The part of the country where Roger rented was rainy in the summertime. Roger rented and moved into the apartment in October. In June, a tremendous rainstorm occurred and Roger’s roof began to leak. The leak was minor at first and Roger merely put a trash can under the leak and had no other issues that month. When handing over his monthly rent check, Roger told Larry about the small leak. Larry thanked Roger for letting him know about the leak and told Roger he would have it fixed.

The next month the rains came again and the leak grew larger in Roger’s apartment. Roger was not home at the time of the rain and therefore the leak damaged some of Roger’s furniture. Roger called Larry to let him know that there was a leak and asked when it might be fixed. Roger also stated that he thought Larry had fixed the roof. Larry curtly stated, “When it rains, sometimes it pours. When it pours, sometimes it leaks.” Roger did not like Larry’s tone or response and called back to ask when the roof might be fixed. Larry stated, “When I get to it.” The following day, Roger sent Larry a note about the roof leak and asked Larry to please address the issue.

The week before the rent was due, another rainstorm occurred and the leak was even larger. This time the leak damaged Roger’s clothing, furniture, and some precious items he had inherited from family members. Roger called Larry and asked Larry to fix roof immediately. Larry responded in a similar and condescending manner. Roger hung up the phone and threw his baseball bat against the wall, damaging the drywall and knocking out an electrical socket.

Since it was the rainy season, Roger knew it would rain again and therefore simply moved his items away from the leak and did nothing to help mitigate the damage from the leaking roof.

Larry came into the apartment to investigate the leak and found damage from not only the leak but also from the thrown baseball bat. Roger states that the baseball bat damage was a direct result of Larry’s inability to fix the leak based on his anger from Larry’s curt response.

Suppose you are a mediator. In five to seven (5-7) pages discuss the rights and responsibilities of the landlord and the tenant in which you:

  1. Explore the legal rights and responsibilities of the tenant and the landlord.
  2. Decide whether or not the landlord and / or the tenant had a legal duty to mitigate damages.
  3. Determine whether or not Larry has legal grounds to evict Roger. Explain why or why not.
  4. Describe whether or not Roger has a legal obligation to pay for the damage he caused and determine whether or not Larry would be liable for any direct damage.
  5. Support each response with facts presented in the scenario.
  6. Use proper legal terminology throughout your responses.
  7. Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as quality academic resources.
  8. Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
    • Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
    • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
    • Include a reference page. Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.

Food stamps or unemployment benefits, English homework help Humanities Assignment Help

This is a two part assignment and a very important grade. You must double check you have met ALL requirements of BOTH tasks and be sure that all work is plagiarism free.

For this assignment, you will be writing a satirical essay addressing a problem in your community. You may choose community on any level: local, school, national, or world. You may choose a topic as large as global warming or as focused as uniforms in your high school. I recommend choosing something on the national scale for ease of research.

Possible topics could include:

  • Global warming
  • Health care
  • Food stamps or unemployment benefits
  • Gun control
  • Immigration
  • NSA domestic surveillance
  • Gay marriage
  • Marijuana legalization
  • National debt
  • Education reform

These are a few suggestions, but you may choose any topic that you can satirize. (The exception to this is abortion rights. This topic is off-limits for this essay.)

Once you have chosen a topic, your paper should explain the debate:

  • What are the arguments on either side?
  • What logical, ethical, and emotional appeals are used?
  • Who are the key figures in the debate (politicians, actors, news pundits, etc)?
  • Use a minimum of four quotes, properly cited.

Then, propose a ridiculous solution to the problem. Proceed with your paper by using logical, ethical, and emotional appeals to make a satirical case as to why your ridiculous solution is the “best” solution.

Your whole essay should be written in a satirical tone, in the way that Swift does in Modest Proposal. (You can also refer to Stephen Colbert as an excellent modern example.) Sell your solution!

You must use all three of the following satirical devices:

  • Exaggeration or hyperbole
  • Understatement
  • Irony or Sarcasm

Part 2:

Now that you have constructed your satirical argument, turn that into a multi-media presentation. Turn your argument into either a video or a PowerPoint presentation.

Here, give you argument more dimension. Your presentation should include a variety of additional materials:

  • Video clips from key figures in the debate
  • Sound
    • Music
    • A recording of your voice
  • Pictures
  • Animations

This essay should be between two and five pages (500-1250 words) in length. Your final draft should be saved and submitted as .doc or .pdf file. It should be in 12-point font in Times New Roman. Your presentation must be at least three minutes long or include a minimum of ten slides.

10% of your grade will be on grammar and mechanics. Write as clearly and correctly as you can. This means that 90% of your grade is based on your ideas – however, you will not earn an A if you do not proofread carefully and check for errors.

Most importantly, remember this is a culminating project for the Satire Unit. Your essay should show everything you have learned throughout the unit.
