This was the original post thread:

“We have already discussed weather related natural disasters and bioterrorism, and now we will focus on other types of disasters. For this week’s discussion, you are asked to research a technological or human induced disaster.

(This not the same as in Weeks 3 and 4 where you might have discussed hostage situations, mass shootings, multiple-vehicle or mass transit accidents with multiple critical injuries, bioterrorism, and disease outbreaks.) Here you want to look at situations such as radiological, nuclear accidents, technological disasters (electromagnetic pulse), and hazardous material spills.

In your post, provide the name of the incident you have chosen, and support your answers with evidence/examples. Please provide a working link and a citation for your source(s).

Select 2 of the items below to discuss:

  1. At what point does a technological or man made event become labeled a disaster?
  2. Name and explain the impact categories associated with your disaster.
  3. How well do you think the United States is prepared for a disaster like the one you selected?
  4. Discuss the factors that can influence the effects a disaster may have on a community or region.
  5. What nursing interventions would be a priority for these victims?
  6. What community resources should be provided to the victims for follow up needs?

Support your answer with evidence from scholarly sources.”

Two discussion post replies: In your peer replies, suggest different ways to handle these types of disasters and the lessons learned by the professionals who handled these disasters.

Here are 2 of the posts that need replying:

1. In April of 2010 the largest oil spill in history affecting the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding areas was a result of the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. The oil rig was located approximately 41 miles off the coast of Louisiana and owned by an offshore-oil-drilling company called Transocean (Pallardy, 2020). The night of the incident there was a surge of natural gas that caused an explosion and killed 11 workers and injured 17 (Pallardy, 2020). Once the explosion occurred the oil from the rig began to spill into the ocean.

At what point does a technological or man-made event become labeled a disaster?

According to the International Federation of Red Cross, “A disaster is a sudden, calamitous event that seriously disrupts the functioning of a community or society and causes human, material, and economic or environmental losses that exceed the community’s or society’s ability to cope using its own resources” (What is a disaster, 2021). In the case of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill it was categorized as a disaster because it was an event that both disrupted the function of that area and caused human and environment losses. The oil spill polluted beaches in surrounding areas including Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. As an aftermath of the event, majority of the wildlife in the area was either destroyed or greatly harmed.

Discuss the factors that can influence the effects a disaster may have on a community or region.

Aside from the direct environmental damage this disaster caused, there are other factors the influenced the region as well. With damaged beaches in that entire area, tourism and beach activities that might’ve brought in income for those areas was no longer available. In response to the event, President Obama enacted a moratorium on offshore drilling which resulted in 8,000-12,000 unemployed individuals (Pallardy, 2020). It took several months until all was returned to normal. In any disaster it is important to consider the financial hardships that may result from it, but most importantly the bigger picture of individuals in the surrounding areas whos jobs are effected even though the incident doesn’t pertain to them.

2. In 1991, California experienced one of the largest chemical spills known in its history. On July 14th, a tanker with 19,000 gallons of metam sodium was being hauled by a Southern Pacific Railroad train down the Cantara Loop before 15 of the cars plunged into the Sacramento River. This spill contaminated 36 miles of river killing fish, aquatic organisms, and plants. It affected other wildlife surrounding the area. Not only was the water contaminated, but so were the air and soil surrounding the area.

Discuss the factors that can influence the effects a disaster may have on a community or region

Dunsmuir is known for its scenic views filled with natural attractions that bring tourists from all over to hike, fish, and explore. As mentioned above, much of the aquatic life surrounding this area was killed in the spill. Nearly 1.1 million fish in total. Residents that lived along the weather developed many symptoms and quickly flooded hospitals. Residents experienced headaches, shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, and vomiting. This spill took part in the closure of small businesses and resorts that surrounded the area.

What nursing interventions would be a priority for these victims?

Metam sodium is a pesticide and classified as a probable human carcinogen. Respiratory, neurologic, and ocular symptoms were reported at the time of the incident and persisted in some for approximately 13 months after the incident. Patients that experience an exposure must be removed from the area immediately. Patients experiencing airway complications should be placed on oxygen and need for ventilation assistance should be constantly monitored. It is important that the patient undergo decontamination procedures that include removing clothing, and flushing the eyes under running water. Cardiac monitoring is also important as dysrhythmias may develop.

Doctor Im Worried the Olympics Cant Be Made Safe Against Covid Opinion Essay Writing Assignment Help

Compose a paper that responds to the main argument in a piece of opinion writing.

The paper should be 3-4 pages long (plus a title page and References
page) and use APA style 7th edition for format and citations.

Choose an opinion essay from a popular news source (New York Times,
Wall Street Journal, CNN, etc.) to analyze as the focus of your paper.
Select an essay labeled “opinion” or “op-ed” that gives arguments for a
debated view, rather than a descriptive news story that objectively
narrates events that have happened.

In the paper, you will analyze the main argument of the opinion essay
and briefly defend your own view on the issue. Before starting, review
the Lecture Video – Argument Basics, Lecture Video – Deductive Arguments, and Lecture Video – Missing Claims and Longer Arguments, as well as the related handouts.

Include the following sections in this order:

  1. Introduction – Draw in the reader in an engaging way
and introduce your topic. Make the last sentence a thesis that states
the main claims you will defend.

  2. Describe the author’s argument – Describe the main
logical argument present in the opinion essay you have chosen to
analyze. Use direct quotes or paraphrases from the essay. Identify the
main conclusion of the piece. Also explain the main premises and (if
relevant) intermediate conclusions used to support the main conclusion.
Do not just summarize your chosen essay like you would for another
class. Instead, use terms from our course (main conclusion, premise,
intermediate conclusion) to unpack the logical structure of the essay
    and its main claims.

  3. Evaluate the author’s argument – Then, give your
assessment of the argument in the opinion essay. Look for controversial
claims and give your view on whether they are true or false. Also,
comment on the logical structure of the essay as you described it in the
previous section — whether the main conclusion is well-supported by
the evidence or if there are gaps in the logic of the argument. Consider
possible sources of bias in the argument as well as opposing arguments
to the author’s claim that should have been considered.

  4. Defend your own arguments – Next, present two valid and
sound deductive arguments of your own as a response to the opinion
essay. These can agree or disagree with the essay’s point of view but
should add something new to the conversation and support a coherent
position of your own. Label the premises and conclusion of each argument
you develop. Then, explain why each argument is valid and why its
premises are true. Review the Worksheet – Composing Deductive Arguments and Handout – Checking for Validity for further help with these tasks.

  5. Conclusion – Signal the end of the paper and review your thesis and main ideas. End with a memorable closing.

The only sources you need for the paper are an outside opinion essay
to analyze and the course text and materials. If you find that other
sources are helpful for supporting your main ideas, you can add one or
two more.

The library APA website (Links to an external site.)
can assist with APA style. It has a pre-formatted paper in APA style to
help with format as well as tabs on how to create in-text citations and
References page listings for different types of sources.

Your grade will be calculated using the rubric attached to the
assignment. Content Area will be weighted 50% with the remaining grade
divided between the other rows. Content Area concerns correct
length, detailed engagement with an outside opinion essay, accurate and
well-supported main claims, and correct logical work and discussion
following the paper instructions.

Florida International University Dutta Vs St Francis Regional Medical Center Paper Health Medical Assignment Help

I’m working on a health & medical discussion question and need an explanation to help me understand better.

Group Members and Spokespersons Duties for All Group Assignments:

. . .

  1. “Group assignments” do not necessarily mean group grade. Students shall be credited only for “substantive” and “timely” work/participation documented on the Group’s Discussion Board. Each group is required to create their own group discussion board within a week of group assignment. One board per group.

. . .

5. Documented/documentation means: individual participation that is both “timely” and “substantive” on each group assignment.

  • Substantive means: narrative post(s) from each student in the group (found on the group discussion board) that addresses all of the following:
  • All of the issues and questions in each group assignment,
  • Is written in proper English,
  • Includes the required number of external authoritative sources, citations and references in proper APA Style (“original post”).
  • In addition to the aforementioned “original post” each student in the group is required to participate and contribute to the group discussion board post(s) concerning/discussing all the group members’ individual submissions on the group discussion board on each group assignment (“follow up/discussion posts”). The group will then vote and agree what the spokesperson is to present as the group submission.

. . .

Group “It’s Your Gavel” Question Assignments
